Are we building competitive and liveable cities?: Guidelines for developing eco-efficient and socially inclusive infrastructure

This guideline jointly published by The UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-HABITAT), in partnership with the Urban Design Lab of the Earth Institute, Columbia University, provides practical tools for city planners and decision makers to reform urban planning and infrastructure design according to the principles of eco-efficiency and social inclusiveness. It includes case studies from the Republic of Korea, the Philippines, Japan and Sri Lanka.

A questão tributária e a problemática da arrecadação fiscal em decorrência da mineração industrial na Amazônia

A concessão de incentivos fiscais e financeiros foi indispensável para o desenvolvimento da indústria mínerometalúrgica, principalmente no Estado do Pará. O Governo Federal, ao considerar a importância para o país da obtenção de expressivos resultados superavitários no comércio exterior, com o objetivo de reduzir a vulnerabilidade externa da economia brasileira, resolveu premiar a cooperação dos demais entes da federação nesse esforço exportador. A Lei Kandir promoveu a exoneração do ICMS nas operações que destinem mercadorias para o exterior, bem como os serviços prestados a tomadores localizados no exterior. Com isso, Estados e Municípios perderam parcela da arrecadação de seus impostos. Os Municípios foram duplamente prejudicados pela exoneração direta do ISS e pela redução na partilha do produto de arrecadação do ICMS.

Estudo comparativo entre MDF e MDP utilizados na indústria moveleira

Increasingly, the furniture market is competitive. The construction industry presents itself in growth, mainly due to the lines of existing incentives and tax credits established by the government, assisting the impulse to purchase real estate, building materials and furniture. Factors that promote and strengthen the sector's growth. With high demand from the furniture market, demand for higher quality and increasing technological advances, research is often undertaken in search of solutions for process improvement and product features, focusing on the production of materials less harmful to the environment, provision of raw press to lower cost, improve the production process and product development of cost-effective. This research focuses on the comparative study between two materials widely used in furniture manufacturing. MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) and MDP (Medium Density Particleboard). The subject provides the focus in furniture production, presenting and comparing data collected from three companies producing panels between physical and mechanical characteristics of the materials, also presenting some of the main factors of influence on the quality of the panels, their features and applications on mobile. The study shows the high potential of using the MDP (Medium Density Particleboard) in furniture designs, as well as MDF (Medium Density Particleboard), favoring the final terms of the project , resulting in better utilization of each material , avoiding waste and increase unnecessary cost . Currently, several projects are developed in MDP and MDF furniture, where there is no relevance to their characteristics regarding their limitations. Wood is a renewable material and has unique characteristics that stem from its orthotropic properties. The objective of this study was to develop and implement an informational Selection of Materials and Manufacturing Processes appropriate to the activity of Product Design - Woods. Composed of a Digital Information System, distributed, and an ordered collection of samples. The design of a product, carries with it the choice of material, and the choice of a manufacturing process. Information on materials and manufacturing processes are available with different content, media and interfaces. However, such information is not systematized so that they can be recovered, as the need for the designer, especially on wood. This set of methods is called the Selection of Materials and Manufacturing Processes. It is hoped through this study that the methodologies for SMPF are employed by product designers, architects and engineers in Brazil.

Intersecção de arte e design: a mediação pela artesania

The language in the contemporaneous, for treating from essential factor to the communication and artistic expression, mainly starting from the intense expansion of the industrial techniques, it’s makes way for a considerable reflection: the stylistic relationship among the industrial object, the craft and the properly artistic work (DORFLES, 1988). The aesthetics, as inherent factor and mediator the all these subjects, is capable to establish similarities between the design concept and the contemporary art. Starting from this panorama an interpretative analysis is delineated on the function aesthetics/poetics (JAKOBSON, R. 1995; MUKAROVSKY, J. 1993) in the language of the design, under the optical of the contemporary thought in order to provide a contribution of updating of the present delimitation context between the art and the design in the extent of the aesthetics.
