A lo largo de este proyecto, se analizarán los comienzos de la radio en las primeras décadas del siglo XX, teniendo como objetivo describir el desarrollo científico-tecnológico y las rivalidades político-militares de las potencias europeas de Reino Unido y Alemania. En primer lugar se verán los precursores de la radio que existían anteriormente al surgimiento de la radiotelegrafía como la telegrafía óptica, la telegrafía eléctrica o el teléfono. Al igual que los primeros investigadores, como James Clerk Maxwell o Heinrich Rudolf Hertz, gracias a los cuales el origen de la radio fue posible. También se analizará el contexto histórico-político de Reino Unido y Alemania donde se muestran las características de las dos grandes potencias del momento, el Imperio Británico y el Imperio Alemán. Además, la cada vez mayor importancia de la telegrafía sin hilos, hará necesaria una organización internacional, dando lugar a las Conferencias Internacionales de Radiotelegrafía y que enfrentarán a estas dos potencias por defender sus intereses. Guillermo Marconi, por parte de Reino Unido, y Telefunken, por parte de Alemania, serán las principales marcas comerciales de radiotelegrafía, no solo en sus respectivos países, sino también en el resto del mundo. Entre ambas compañías se verán las rivalidades por la incesante lucha de patentes, el desarrollo tecnológico y el control de los mercados. También se tratará el enfrentamiento directo que se produjo en la Primera Guerra Mundial, donde la radio jugaría un papel fundamental. Por último, se analizarán los comienzos de la radiodifusión en la segunda década del siglo XX, donde la radio ya estaba consolidada como uno de los medios de comunicación más importante de la época, capaz de llegar a todos los rincones del planeta y perfectamente integrada en la sociedad del momento. ABSTRACT. Throughout this project, it will be analyzed the beginning of the radio in the first decades of the XX century, having as goal to describe the scientific-technological development and the political-militaries opponents of the European’s countries, United kingdom and Germany. Firstly, it will be shown the radio’s precursors before the origin of the wireless telegraphy, like: optical telegraphy, electric telegraphy or telephone. Moreover, it will show the first researchers like: Clerk Maxwell or Heinrich Hertz, thanks to them, the origin of the radio was possible. In addition, it will analyze the historical-political context of United Kingdom and Germany, where it is shown the main features of the Britain Empire and the German Empire. Moreover, the importance of the telegraphy without wire will make necessary and international organization, resulting the International Conferences of Wireless Telegraphy and it will put together these main countries in order to protect their interests. Guglielmo Marconi, by United Kingdom, and Telefunken, by Germany, they will be the main commercials brand of the wireless telegraphy, not only in their countries, but also in all over the world. Between both companies will be seen the main competitions for their patens, the technology development and the market’s control. Moreover, it will be dealt the direct conflict in the First World of War, where the radio has a fundamental role. Finally, it will be analyze the beginning of the wireless broadcasting in the second decade of the XX century, where the radio was established as one of the most important media of the age, able to arrive at every places of the world and it was perfectly integrated in the society of that moment.

College radio is subject to constant transformation. The rise of information and communications technologies has allowed its development and modernization as well as the proliferation of new professional profiles. This research aims to analyze the connection of the Spanish university stations with the relevant qualifications. To do this, we use a comparative methodology based on examination of descriptors and specific principal subjects of degrees such as Audiovisual Communication and Journalism, although we will be using other degrees that are acquiring more responsibilities in a radio station, such as the degree in Information and Documentation. In conclusion, structural weaknesses in the university environment are observed, but future possibilities are detected as well: A college radio station is a place of convergence between the training of students from different degrees and reality itself, a versatile medium that provides the relevance of being the first professional contact of college students with the labor market.

In this paper, we investigate the effect of of the primary network on the secondary network when harvesting energy in cognitive radio in the presence of multiple power beacons and multiple secondary transmitters. In particular, the influence of the primary transmitter's transmit power on the energy harvesting secondary network is examined by studying two scenarios of primary transmitter's location, i.e., the primary transmitter's location is near to the secondary network and the primary transmitter's location is far from the secondary network. In the scenario where the primary transmitter locates near to the secondary network, although secondary transmitter can be benefit from the harvested energy from the primary transmitter, the interference caused by the primary transmitter suppresses the secondary network performance. Meanwhile, in both scenarios, despite the fact that the transmit power of the secondary transmitter can be improved by the support of powerful power beacons, the peak interference constraint at the primary receiver limits this advantage. In addition, the deployment of multiple power beacons and multiple secondary transmitters can improve the performance of the secondary network. The analytical expressions of the outage probability of the secondary network in the two scenarios are also provided and verified by numerical simulations.

There are many applications in aeronautics where there exist strong couplings between disciplines. One practical example is within the context of Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV) automation where there exists strong coupling between operation constraints, aerodynamics, vehicle dynamics, mission and path planning. UAV path planning can be done either online or offline. The current state of path planning optimisation online UAVs with high performance computation is not at the same level as its ground-based offline optimizer's counterpart, this is mainly due to the volume, power and weight limitations on the UAV; some small UAVs do not have the computational power needed for some optimisation and path planning task. In this paper, we describe an optimisation method which can be applied to Multi-disciplinary Design Optimisation problems and UAV path planning problems. Hardware-based design optimisation techniques are used. The power and physical limitations of UAV, which may not be a problem in PC-based solutions, can be approached by utilizing a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) as an algorithm accelerator. The inevitable latency produced by the iterative process of an Evolutionary Algorithm (EA) is concealed by exploiting the parallelism component within the dataflow paradigm of the EA on an FPGA architecture. Results compare software PC-based solutions and the hardware-based solutions for benchmark mathematical problems as well as a simple real world engineering problem. Results also indicate the practicality of the method which can be used for more complex single and multi objective coupled problems in aeronautical applications.

This paper investigates the High Lift System (HLS) application of complex aerodynamic design problem using Particle Swarm Optimisation (PSO) coupled to Game strategies. Two types of optimization methods are used; the first method is a standard PSO based on Pareto dominance and the second method hybridises PSO with a well-known Nash Game strategies named Hybrid-PSO. These optimization techniques are coupled to a pre/post processor GiD providing unstructured meshes during the optimisation procedure and a transonic analysis software PUMI. The computational efficiency and quality design obtained by PSO and Hybrid-PSO are compared. The numerical results for the multi-objective HLS design optimisation clearly shows the benefits of hybridising a PSO with the Nash game and makes promising the above methodology for solving other more complex multi-physics optimisation problems in Aeronautics.

This chapter approaches integrated advertising as a practice that is continuous with advertising history, rather than a phenomenon associated with new technologies. Competition for technology-enabled audiences in expanding media and entertainment markets is nonetheless an important factor in the turn to integrated advertising and marketing strategies in recent years. While integrated advertising provides solutions for advertisers, it is problematic for media consumers because it is not always distinguishable from surrounding program content and clearly identifiable as advertising. It creates opportunities for advertisers to fly below the radar of citizen and consumer awareness of commercial and political influences in media content, and for this reason has been constrained by regulation. Media regulators have come to play an important role in striking a balance between public and private interests in commercial media by setting and adjudicating the limits of integrated advertising practices. This chapter looks at how broadcasting regulators have responded to the challenges of regulating integrated advertising in commercial radio in three different territories (United States, United Kingdom and Australia). It draws attention to the ways in which integrated advertising simultaneously drives innovation in media genres and forms, as well as de-regulation of the influence exercised by advertisers in commercial media content.

During the evolution of the music industry, developments in the media environment have required music firms to adapt in order to survive. Changes in broadcast radio programming during the 1950s; the Compact Cassette during the 1970s; and the deregulation of media ownership during the 1990s are all examples of changes which have heavily affected the music industry. This study explores similar contemporary dynamics, examines how decision makers in the music industry perceive and make sense of the developments, and reveals how they revise their business strategies, based on their mental models of the media environment. A qualitative system dynamics model is developed in order to support the reasoning brought forward by the study. The model is empirically grounded, but is also based on previous music industry research and a theoretical platform constituted by concepts from evolutionary economics and sociology of culture. The empirical data primarily consist of 36 personal interviews with decision makers in the American, British and Swedish music industrial ecosystems. The study argues that the model which is proposed, more effectively explains contemporary music industry dynamics than music industry models presented by previous research initiatives. Supported by the model, the study is able to show how “new” media outlets make old music business models obsolete and challenge the industry’s traditional power structures. It is no longer possible to expose music at one outlet (usually broadcast radio) in the hope that it will lead to sales of the same music at another (e.g. a compact disc). The study shows that many music industry decision makers still have not embraced the new logic, and have not yet challenged their traditional mental models of the media environment. Rather, they remain focused on preserving the pivotal role held by the CD and other physical distribution technologies. Further, the study shows that while many music firms remain attached to the old models, other firms, primarily music publishers, have accepted the transformation, and have reluctantly recognised the realities of a virtualised environment.

Two lecture notes describe recent developments of evolutionary multi objective optimization (MO) techniques in detail and their advantages and drawbacks compared to traditional deterministic optimisers. The role of Game Strategies (GS), such as Pareto, Nash or Stackelberg games as companions or pre-conditioners of Multi objective Optimizers is presented and discussed on simple mathematical functions in Part I , as well as their implementations on simple aeronautical model optimisation problems on the computer using a friendly design framework in Part II. Real life (robust) design applications dealing with UAVs systems or Civil Aircraft and using the EAs and Game Strategies combined material of Part I & Part II are solved and discussed in Part III providing the designer new compromised solutions useful to digital aircraft design and manufacturing. These lecture notes describe the use and implementation of a framework in which mathematical as well as engineering optimisation problems can be analysed. The foundations of the framework and algorithms described -Hierarchical Asynchronous Parallel Evolutionary Algorithms (HAPEAs) - lie upon traditional evolution strategies and incorporate the concepts of a multi-objective optimisation, hierarchical topology, asynchronous evaluation of candidate solutions , parallel computing and game strategies. In a step by step approach, the numerical implementation of EAs and HAPEAs for solving multi criteria optimisation problems is conducted providing the reader with the knowledge to reproduce these hand on training in his – her- academic or industrial environment.
