The aim of this study was to evaluate the association between cryoprotectants little studied in Brazil such as dimethylformamide and trehalose amid thinner, using protocols of fast and slow defrosting. Three adult Labrador Retrievier male, healthy dogs, weekly submitted to one semen collection during five-weeks period, were used. The base diluent medium used in this study was tris-citrate added with 3% of dimethylformamide + 3% glycerol (D1), 3% dimethylformamide and trehalose (D2) and 4% glycerol (D3). At defrosting, half of the semen samples from each diluent medium was defrosted by rapid method in water-bath at 75 °C for seven minutes, followed by a new immersion at 37 °C for 1 minute. The other half of the samples was defrosted by slow method, in water-bath at 37 °C for 1 minute. The semen was evaluated for sperm progressive motility and vigor, besides membrane integrity. For this, the semen samples were submitted to either hyposmotic and membrane integrity tests of the plasmatic membrane and acrosome (fluorescence). The results indicated that the use of glycerol as cryoprotector in TRIS diluter provides greater efficacy in cryopreserving spermatozoa of the canine species, when compared to dimethylformamide associated with trehalose or glycerol.

The canine Transmissible Venereal Tumor (TVT) is a neoplasm of round cells that primarily affects the external genitalia of both male and female dogs with high casuistry. Its transmission occurs by the tumor cells’ implementation in the mucous membranes during the coitus or in other body parts through licking, scratching or direct contact with the tumor. The clinical manifestations vary according to the location. Despite being a malignant neoplasm, TVT’s metastatic potential is low. The diagnosis is based on macroscopic characteristics, clinical signs, cytology and/or histopathology exam, among which cytology is considered the best method. There are several treatment protocols for the TVT, among which, surgical excision, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and chemotherapy. Chemotherapy with vincristine sulfate is the elected treatment. However, more and more new alternatives have been developed, as the usage of natural products, homeopathy and ivermectina. They can be used as a unique treatment to neoplasm or combined to the chemotherapy in order to decrease the dose and the application number of the chemotherapic and its side effects

Osteosarcoma is the primary osseous neoplasia frequently diagnosed in dogs and it’s the main answerable for more than 85% of the neoplasias origened from the skeleton. The average age of onset of the lesion is 7 years, especially in large breeds and giant, with males being more affected than females. In general, 75% of osteosarcomas develop in the appendicular skeleton and 25% in the axial. The forelimbs are more affected than the hindlimbs, since support 60% of body weight. The osteosarcoma diagnosis is made by the analys of the animal’s clinic historic, detailed physique exams, blood exams alkaline phosphatase, xray exams, cytology, biopsy. The treatment of choice is the amputation associated to the chemotherapy. However, in some cases the member is preserved by the allograft technic. The chemotherapy associated to the surgery reduces the total load of the tumor, lengthens the interval of the life and improves the quality of pacient’s life. The most used medicines are cisplatin and doxorubicin. They can be used in separated or associated ways. The prognostic of dogs with osteosarcoma is reserved

Upper canines impaction are considered the second most frequent and are associated to important esthetics and functional limitations. Among the treatment strategies described in the literature the most commonly used are the extraction of the primary canines and the surgical exposure followed by orthodontic traction, that requires an adequate interdisciplinary approach. The aim of this case report is to draw the attention of the clinician to the possibility of adapting the segmented arch technique to manage a canine impaction clinical case.

The mandibular and maxillary canines when well positioned in the arch, are important functionally and aesthetically. Although these teeth are frequently malpositioned in the dental arch, their absence of eruption are not common, occuring more frequently with the maxillary canine than the mandibular canine. The canine transmigration is a well-known pre eruptive phenomenon in which the tooth goes thru the facial midline, occurring more frequently in the mandible than in maxila. Females are more susceptible than males and the right side more than the left one. Normally the patients do not show any symptoms, and this condition is observed during radiographic exams to diagnose the late exfoliation of the deciduous canine or for any other purpose. Due to the relationship between impacted canines and pathologic lesions, infection, trauma to the adjacent teeth, pain, ectopic eruption and interference with prosthesis, it´s indicated the surgical extraction of these teeth. The goal of this article is to describe and discuss the surgical treatment of an impacted canine (43) in the chin.
