A chromic molybdenum phosphate, (NH3CH2CH2NH3)(2).(NH3CH2CH2NH2)(3).[NaCr2Mo12O30(PO4)(HPO4)(3)]. 6H(2)O, involving molybdenum present in V oxidation, has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and IR spectrum. Deep brown-red crystals are formed in the triclinic system, space group P (1) over bar, a = 12.067(2), b = 14.677(3), c = 21.290(2) Angstrom, alpha = 80.940(10)degrees, beta = 82.960(10)degrees, gamma = 76.61(2)degrees. The structure of the title compound may be considered to be two [Mo6O15(HPO4)(H2PO4)(3)](5-) units bonded to a chromic atom, although several P-O groups are not protonated on account of coordination with a Na+ cation. The one-dimensional tunnels were formed in the solid of the title compound. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Two new ultrathin multiplayer films have been successfully prepared fi-om Keggin-type heteropoly acids H-4[SiW12O40] and H-3[PMo12O40] with polyelectrolytes PEI, PSS, and PAH, using the electrostatic layer-by-layer self-assembly, technique. The XR results reveal their film thickness at nanoscale (similar to 20 nm). According to the AFM images, it is believed that the surface roughness (rough degree of film surface) of the polyelectrolyte-polyoxometalate film greatly depends on the kind of polyoxometalates.

The development in the oxidation of olefins to ketones catalyzed by palladium compounds was reviewed. Some improved methods for the oxidation of olefins catalyzed by Wacker-type catalyst systems are also summarized. For this reaction, some new catalyst systems and the reaction mechanism are described. Emphasis has been given to the applications of Pd(I)/HPA(heteropoly acid), Pd(I)/FePc (iron phthalocyanine), Pd (I)/HQ (hydroquinone)/FePc, Pd (I)/HQ/HPA, Pd (I)/CuSO4/HPA catalyst systems in the oxidation of olefins to ketones; the application of Pd(I)/LCoNO2, PdCl2 (MeCN)(2)/CuCl, Pd(OAc)(2)/ pyridine, fluorous biphasic catalyst systems in the oxidation of olefins to ketones is also surveyed.

The title compound, [H3PMo12O40][CO(NH2)(2)](3). 5H(2)O, was synthesized and characterized by IR, C-13 NMR and X-ray diffraction. This is the first example of a urea-heteropoly acid species. Crystal data: monoclinic, C2/c, a = 17.790(4) Angstrom, b = 17.158(3) Angstrom, e = 25.512(5) Angstrom, beta = 100.65(3)degrees, V = 8514(3) Angstrom (3), Z = 6, R-1 = 0.0437, wR2 = 0. 1092. In the unit cell, the urea molecules occupy cavities in the polyoxometalate lattice ordered along b-axis. Water molecules occupy the space left by polyoxometalates, and urea. Polyoxometalate O atoms, the N atoms of urea and O atoms of water molecules are involved in hydrogen bonding. (C) 2001 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

The title supramolecular compound, [HMDH2][(H2PMoMo11O40)-Mo-V] . 2AA . 3H(2)O . DMF (HMD = hexamethylene diamine; AA=acetaldehyde; DMF=N,N-dimethyl formamide), has been photochemically synthesized by using elemental analysis, IR, solid diffusion reflectance, electronic spectra, ESR spectra and X-ray single-crystal analysis. The crystallographic data: triclinic, P (1) over bar, a=14.092(2), b=14.347(3), c=14.358(3)Angstrom, alpha = 75.10(3), beta = 80.70(3), gamma = 80.73(3)degrees, V = 2746.6(10)Angstrom (3), Z = 2, M-r = 2081.68, D-c=2.517g/cm(3), F(000) =1970, mu (MoK alpha) =2.766mm(-1). The structure has been refined to R =0.0832 and wR=0.2638, by full-matrix least-squares method. The title compound is composed of hexamethylene diamine, two acetaldehyde molecules, three water molecules, one N,N-dimethylformamide and [(H2PMoMo11O40)-Mo-V](2-) heteropoly anion.

Ultrathin multilayer films of a polybasic lanthanide heteropoly tungstate-molybdate complex and a cationic polymer of quaternized poly(4-vinylpyridine) partially complexed with osmium bis(2,2'-bipyridine) have been fabricated on a gold electrode precoated with a cysteamine self-assembled monolayer. The multilayer films have been characterized by optical spectroscopy, small-angle X-ray diffraction, and electrochemical methods (cyclic voltammetry and electrochemical impedance). Especially, the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy is developed to monitor the layer deposition processes. It provides important information such as double-layer capacitance and charge-transfer resistance. All obtained results reveal regular film growth with each layer adsorption. A novel heteropoly tungstophosphates, H-8[P4W14O58Na4(H2O)(20)] . 16H(2)O, was synthesized by hydrothermal method and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectrum and single-crystal X-ray structure analysis. The thermal stability of the compound was investigated by using TG-DTA. The crystal is triclinic system with space group P (1) over bar, a = 1. 137 9(2) nm, b=1. 363 2(3) nm, c=1. 627 1(3) nm; alpha=78. 20(3)degrees, beta=71, 20(3)degrees, gamma= 71. 62(3)degrees; V = 2. 252 5(8) nm(3), Z=1, M-r= 4 374. 38, D-c = 3. 225 mg/cm(3), mu = 18. 007 mm(-1), F(000)=1 972, R=0. 074 2, R-w=0. 200 4. The result of structure analysis shows that the anion of the compound consists of two PW7O29Na2(H2O)(10) subunits and two linked phosphorous atoms. A kind of microporous with size of 0. 661 4 nm X 0. 318 9 nm was formed in the crystal structure.

A manganese molybdenum phosphate, (NH3CH2CH2NH3)(10)(H3O)(3)(H5O)Na-2[MnMo12O24(OH)(6) (PO4)(4)(PO3OH)(4)][MnMo12O24 (OH)(6)(PO4)(6)(PO3OH)(2)]. 9H(2)O, has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The structure of this compound may be considered to be two [Mo6O12(OH)(3)(PO4)(2)(HPO4)(2)](7-) units bonded together by a manganese atom, although several P-O groups are not protonated on account of coordination to a Na+ cation. One-dimensional tunnels were formed in the solid. A probe reaction of the oxidation of acetaldehyde with H2O2 using this compound as catalyst was carried out in a liquid-solid system, showing that the manganese molybdenum phosphate has high catalytic activity in the reaction.

A novel method of electrochemical growth was developed for layer-by-layer film formation and proven more advantageous than the commonly used immersion growth in obtaining more uniform multilayer assemblies, as well as being able to proceed in salt-containing solutions without competitive adsorption from the salt ions. A nickel molybdenum phosphate, (NH3CH2CH2NH3)(4).(NH3CH2CH2NH2). Na .[Ni2Mo12O30(PO4)(HPO4)(4)(H2PO4)(3)]. 6H(2)O, invoicing molybdenum present in V oxidation, has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Deep brown-red crystals are formed in the triclinic system, space group P (1) over bar, a = 12,011(2), b = 14,612(3), c = 21.252(4) Angstrom, alpha = 80.54(2)degrees, beta = 83.10(2)degrees, gamma = 76.29(2)degrees, V = 3561.4(12) Angstrom(3), Z = 2, lambda(MoK alpha) = 0.71073 Angstrom (R(F) = 0.0529 for 9880 reflections), Data mere collected on a Siemens P4 diffractometer at 20 degrees C in the range of 1.75 degrees < theta < 23.02 degrees using the omega-scan technique. The structure was solved by direct methods using the program SHELXTL-93 and refined with the method of fun-matrix least-squares on F-2. The structure of the title compound may be considered to be two [Mo6O15(HPO4)(H2PO4)(3)](5-) units bonded together with a nickel atom, although several P-O groups are not protonated on account of coordination with a Na+ cation, The one-dimensional tunnels were formed in the solid of the title compound. A probe reaction of the oxidation of acetaldehyde with H2O2 using the title compound as catalyst was carried out in a liquid- solid system, showing that the title compound had high catalytic activity in the reaction, (C) 1999 Academic Press.

Sandwich-like heteropoly molybdochromophosphates of supermolecular compound [NH3(CH2)(6)NH3](2)H-3{Cr[Mo6O15(HPO4)(H2PO4)(3)](2)}. 4H(2)O has been hydrothermally synthesized and the single crystal structure has been determined by X-ray diffraction. The crystal data are has follows: triclinic, space group P (1) over bar a=12.156(2), b=12.809(3), c=13.530(3) Angstrom, alpha=102.46(3)degrees, beta=93.67(3)degrees, gamma=93.46(3)degrees, V=2046.9(7) Angstrom(3), Z=1, M-r=2768.69, D-c=2.246 g/cm(-3), F(000)=1337, mu=2.162 mm(-1). The structure has been refined to R=0.0666 and wR=0.1745 by full-matrix least-squares method. The title compound is composed of 1, 6-diaminohexane, water molecules, and {Cr[Mo6O15(HPO4)(H2PO4)(3)](2)}(7-) anion which consists of six oxygen atoms from two [Mo6P4] units with a sandwich-like transition metal atom Cr located at the center of symmetry.

Charge-transfer salt (DBTTF)(6)HSiMo(12)O(40)4H(2)O was synthesized by electrocrystallization and characterized by IR spectrum and electronic spectrum. Its magnetic property, conductivity and crystal structure were determined. The title compound consists of heteropoly anions, water molecules and DBTTF columns which are formed by repeated arrangement of tetramer (DBTTF), in the direction of 15 degrees to the a axis in the tunnel constituted by the anions and other type of DBTTF. A new ferric molybdenum phosphate containing a tunnel structure and crystallographically different clusters has been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. A probe reaction of the oxidation of acetaldehyde with H2O2 using the tide compound as catalyst was carried out in a liquid-solid system, showing that the title compound had high catalytic activity in the reaction. [NH4](4)H[(PMo8V4V2O42)-V-IV-O-V] . 24H(2)O has been hydrothermally synthesized from ammonium vanadate and sodium molybdate in aqueous solution by adding phosphorous acid, and its structure determined by single crystal X-ray analysis. The heteropoly molybdovanadophosphate anion is a bicapped 'pseudo-Keggin' polyanion, two vanadium atoms are distributed at two 'capping' metal atom positions and other four vanadium atoms randomly distributed at eight metal atom positions.
