Review of Julien Gœury: L 'Autopsie et le théorème: poétique des Théorèmes spirituels (1613-1622) de Jean de La Ceppède.

Les lecteurs de La Ceppède seront contents de recevoir le livre de Julien Gœury car son étude représente une addition importante aux ouvrages récents sur le poète aixois. Faisant partie de la redécouverte critique des Théorèmes initiée par les travaux de Jean Rousset dans les années 50, L'Autopsie et le théorème jette un nouveau regard sur l'oeuvre laceppédienne en adoptant ce que l'on peut appeler une perspective néo-structuraliste. L'exposé se divise en quatre parties: 1) Morphologie, 2) Anatomie, 3) Physiologie et 4) Psychologie. Une telle répartition suggere le désir de dégager le caractère organique du texte dans le cadre d'une organisation bien schématisée. Concernant la première categorie, Gœury met en exergue la construction générale du texte, signalant au départ “l'architecture extérieure” (23) ainsi que “l'architecture intérieure” (54) dans la composition des livres et des recueils qui édifient l'ouvrage. Ici, le lecteur note l'accent mis sur la signification du frontispice, des pages de titres, et sur d'autres éléments paratextuels. Toujours dans la première partie, Gœury suit l'exemple de plusieurs critiques en examinant l'emploi du sonnet comme mode de discours. L'auteur met en avant des “lois de composition” (141) qui renforcent “l'engagement formel” (151) du texte ainsi que son “architecture phonetique” (157). S'ajoutent à l'examen morphologique des observations sur les différentes formes “d'enjambement” (168) et de “fragmentation” (174) qui se manifestent dans les sonnets.

Synthesis, screening for antiacetylcholinesterase activity and binding mode prediction of a new series of [3-(disubstituted-phosphate)-4,4,4-trifluoro-butyl]-carbamic acid ethyl esters

A series of nine new [3-(disubstituted-phosphate)-4,4,4-trifluoro-butyl]-carbamic acid ethyl esters (phosphate-carbamate compounds) was obtained through the reaction of (4,4,4-trifluoro-3-hydroxybut-1-yl)-carbamic acid ethyl esters with phosphorus oxychloride followed by the addition of alcohols. The products were characterized by ¹H, 13C, 31P, and 19F NMR spectroscopy, GC-MS, and elemental analysis. All the synthesized compounds were screened for acetylcholinesterase (AChE) inhibitory activity using the Ellman method. All compounds containing phosphate and carbamate pharmacophores in their structures showed enzyme inhibition, being the compound bearing the diethoxy phosphate group (2b) the most active compound. Molecular modeling studies were performed to investigate the detailed interactions between AChE active site and small-molecule inhibitor candidates, providing valuable structural insights into AChE inhibition.

Spin-wave fluctuations in ferrimagnetic Mg(x)Fe(3-x)O(4) nanoparticles

We have performed a systematic study of the magnetic properties of a series of ferrimagnetic nanoparticles of Mg(x)Fe(3-x)O(4) (0.8 <= x <= 1.5) prepared by the combustion reaction method. The magnetization data can be well fitted by Bloch's law with T(3/2). Bloch's constant B determined from the fitting procedure was found to increase with Mg content x from similar to 3.09 X 10(-5) K(-3/2) for x = 0.8 to 6.27 X 10(-5) K(-3/2) for x=1.5. The exchange integral J(AB) and the spin-wave stiffness constant D of Mg(x)Fe(3-x)O(4) nanoparticles were also determined as similar to 0.842 and 0.574 meV and 296 and 202 meV angstrom(2) for specimens with x=0.8 and 1.5, respectively. (5R)-3-(2-Chloroacetyl)-4-methyl-5phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazinan-2-one

The 1,3,4-oxadiazinan-2-one ring in the title compound, C(12)H(13)ClN(2)O(3), is in a distorted half-chair conformation. The phenyl and chloroacetyl groups occupy axial and equatorial positions, respectively, and lie to the opposite side of the molecule to the N-bound methyl substituent. Molecules are consolidated in the crystal structure by C-H center dot center dot center dot O interactions.

Antioxidant Capacity of 2-(3,5-diaryl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-4-phenylthiazoles

The antioxidant capacity of 2-(3,5-diaryl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)-4-phenylthiazoles was evaluated. The values of antioxidant capacities of compounds 2d and 2e were found to be, respectively, 2,700 +/- 150 and 3,135 +/- 230 TE by the ORAC method, corresponding to a significant antioxidant capacity.

New antitumoral agents I: In vitro anticancer activity and in vivo acute toxicity of synthetic 1,5-bis(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-1,4-pentadien-3-one and derivatives

This paper describes a new method for the preparation of 1,5-bis(4-hydroxy-3-methoxyphenyl)-1,4-pentadien-3-one 1 and its derivatives 2-5. This set of synthetic compounds exhibited high antitumoral activities regarding in vitro screening against several human tumor cell lines as lung carcinoma NCI-460, melanoma UACC-62, breast MCF-7, colon HT-29, renal 786-O, ovarian OVCAR-03 and ovarian expressing the resistance phenotype for adriamycin NCI-ADR/ RES, prostate PC-3, and leukemia K-562. Compounds were also tested against murine tumor cell line B16F10 melanoma and lymphocytic leukemia L1210 as well as to their effect toward normal macrophages. Specific activity against colon cancer cells HT-29 was observed for all tested compounds and suggests further studies with models of colon cancer. Compounds 1, 2, and 4 showed significant cytotoxic activity with IC(50) values <= 2.3 mu M for all human cancer cell lines. Intraperitoneal acute administration of compound 1 and 2 showed very low toxicity rate. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Efficient sonochemical synthesis of novel 3,5-diaryl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazole-1-carboximidamides

Environmentally friendly sonocatalysis promoted preparation of 1-thiocarbamoyl-3,5-diaryl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pyrazoles

An efficient and green synthesis of thiocarbamoyl-3,5-diaryl-4,5-dihydro-1 H-pyrazoles via the condensation of chalcones with thiosemicarbazide in ethanol and KOH under ultrasound irradiation is reported. Synthesis, X-ray analysis and DFT study of 2-amino-3-(N-oxipiridin-4-ilsulfanil)-propionic acid dihydrate

The title compound, C(8)H(14)N(2)O(5)S 2(H(2)O), 2-amino-3-(N-oxipiridin-4-ilsulfanil)-propionic acid dihydrate, is obtained by the reaction of cysteine and 4-nitropyridine N-oxide in dimethylformamide, removing the NO(2) group from the benzene ring and releasing nitrous acid into the solution. The molecule exists as a Zwitterion. Hydrogen bond interactions involving the title molecule and water molecules allow the formation of R(5)(5)(23) edge fused rings parallel to (010). Water molecules are connected independently, forming infinite chains (wires), in square wave form, along the b-axis. The chirality of the cysteine molecule used in the synthesis is retained in the title molecule. A density functional theory (DFT) optimized structure at the B3LYP/6-311G(3df,2p) level allows comparison of calculated and experimental IR spectra.

Comparison of reading performance after bilateral implantation of multifocal intraocular lenses with+3.00 or+4.00 diopter addition

PURPOSE To compare reading ability after cataract surgery and bilateral implantation of multifocal intraocular lenses (IOLs) with a +3 00 diopter (D) addition (add) or a +4 00 D add SETTING Department of Ophthalmology, University of Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, Brazil DESIGN Prospective comparative study METHODS Patients scheduled for cataract surgery were randomly assigned to bilateral implantation of an aspheric AcrySof ReSTOR multifocal IOL with a +3 00 diopter (D) addition (add) or a +4 00 D add The reading speed, critical print size, and reading acuity were measured binocularly with best correction using MNREAD acuity charts 6 months after surgery Patients were tested with the chart at the best patient-preferred reading distance and at 40 cm Binocular uncorrected and best distance-corrected visual acuities at far and near were also measured RESULTS The study enrolled 32 patients At the best reading distance the results were similar between the 2 IOL groups in all reading parameters When tested at 40 cm, reading speed at all print sizes from 03 to 00 (all P< 001), critical print size (P< 001) and reading acuity (P = 014) were statistically significantly better in the +3 00 D IOL group than in the +4 00 DIOL group Uncorrected and corrected visual acuities at far and near were similar between the 2 groups CONCLUSION Although the 2 IOL groups had similar performance in reading parameters, patients had to adjust to their best reading distance The +3 00 D IOL performed better than the +4 00 D IOL at 40 cm
