La segmentació de persones es molt difícil a causa de la variabilitat de les diferents condicions, com la postura que aquestes adoptin, color del fons, etc. Per realitzar aquesta segmentació existeixen diferents tècniques, que a partir d'una imatge ens retornen un etiquetat indicant els diferents objectes presents a la imatge. El propòsit d'aquest projecte és realitzar una comparativa de les tècniques recents que permeten fer segmentació multietiqueta i que son semiautomàtiques, en termes de segmentació de persones. A partir d'un etiquetatge inicial idèntic per a tots els mètodes utilitzats, s'ha realitzat una anàlisi d'aquests, avaluant els seus resultats sobre unes dades publiques, analitzant 2 punts: el nivell de interacció i l'eficiència.

Review of Thompsoniella Guimarães with description of a new species from Colombia (Diptera, Calliphoridae, Mesembrinellinae). The Mesembrinellinae (Diptera, Calliphoridae) are exclusively Neotropical with nine genera comprising 36 recognized species, including the genus Thompsoniella Guimarães with a single species, T. anomala Guimarães. We describe a new species, Thompsoniella andina sp. nov., from the Departments of Antioquia and Caldas, Colombia (Cordillera Central of the Andes, between 2600 - 2700 m) and redescribe T. anomala. A key to the nine genera of Mesembrinellinae and a key to the males of the two species of Thompsoniella are provided. Color photographs to illustrate the two species of Thompsoniella and drawings of the male genitalia of both species are also provided. Here we record Thompsoniella for the first time in Colombia.

RESUME La méthode de la spectroscopie Raman est une technique d'analyse chimique basée sur l'exploitation du phénomène de diffusion de la lumière (light scattering). Ce phénomène fut observé pour la première fois en 1928 par Raman et Krishnan. Ces observations permirent à Raman d'obtenir le Prix Nobel en physique en 1930. L'application de la spectroscopie Raman a été entreprise pour l'analyse du colorant de fibres textiles en acrylique, en coton et en laine de couleurs bleue, rouge et noire. Nous avons ainsi pu confirmer que la technique est adaptée pour l'analyse in situ de traces de taille microscopique. De plus, elle peut être qualifiée de rapide, non destructive et ne nécessite aucune préparation particulière des échantillons. Cependant, le phénomène de la fluorescence s'est révélé être l'inconvénient le plus important. Lors de l'analyse des fibres, différentes conditions analytiques ont été testées et il est apparu qu'elles dépendaient surtout du laser choisi. Son potentiel pour la détection et l'identification des colorants imprégnés dans les fibres a été confirmé dans cette étude. Une banque de données spectrale comprenant soixante colorants de référence a été réalisée dans le but d'identifier le colorant principal imprégné dans les fibres collectées. De plus, l'analyse de différents blocs de couleur, caractérisés par des échantillons d'origine inconnue demandés à diverses personnes, a permis de diviser ces derniers en plusieurs groupes et d'évaluer la rareté des configurations des spectres Raman obtenus. La capacité de la technique Raman à différencier ces échantillons a été évaluée et comparée à celle des méthodes conventionnelles pour l'analyse des fibres textiles, à savoir la micro spectrophotométrie UV-Vis (MSP) et la chromatographie sur couche mince (CCM). La technique Raman s'est révélée être moins discriminatoire que la MSP pour tous les blocs de couleurs considérés. C'est pourquoi dans le cadre d'une séquence analytique nous recommandons l'utilisation du Raman après celle de la méthode d'analyse de la couleur, à partir d'un nombre de sources lasers le plus élevé possible. Finalement, la possibilité de disposer d'instruments équipés avec plusieurs longueurs d'onde d'excitation, outre leur pouvoir de réduire la fluorescence, permet l'exploitation d'un plus grand nombre d'échantillons. ABSTRACT Raman spectroscopy allows for the measurement of the inelastic scattering of light due to the vibrational modes of a molecule when irradiated by an intense monochromatic source such as a laser. Such a phenomenon was observed for the first time by Raman and Krishnan in 1928. For this observation, Raman was awarded with the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. The application of Raman spectroscopy has been undertaken for the dye analysis of textile fibers. Blue, black and red acrylics, cottons and wools were examined. The Raman technique presents advantages such as non-destructive nature, fast analysis time, and the possibility of performing microscopic in situ analyses. However, the problem of fluorescence was often encountered. Several aspects were investigated according to the best analytical conditions for every type/color fiber combination. The potential of the technique for the detection and identification of dyes was confirmed. A spectral database of 60 reference dyes was built to detect the main dyes used for the coloration of fiber samples. Particular attention was placed on the discriminating power of the technique. Based on the results from the Raman analysis for the different blocs of color submitted to analyses, it was possible to obtain different classes of fibers according to the general shape of spectra. The ability of Raman spectroscopy to differentiate samples was compared to the one of the conventional techniques used for the analysis of textile fibers, like UV-Vis Microspectrophotometry (UV-Vis MSP) and thin layer chromatography (TLC). The Raman technique resulted to be less discriminative than MSP for every bloc of color considered in this study. Thus, it is recommended to use Raman spectroscopy after MSP and light microscopy to be considered for an analytical sequence. It was shown that using several laser wavelengths allowed for the reduction of fluorescence and for the exploitation of a higher number of samples.

There is a lack of dedicated tools for business model design at a strategic level. However, in today's economic world the need to be able to quickly reinvent a company's business model is essential to stay competitive. This research focused on identifying the functionalities that are necessary in a computer-aided design (CAD) tool for the design of business models in a strategic context. Using design science research methodology a series of techniques and prototypes have been designed and evaluated to offer solutions to the problem. The work is a collection of articles which can be grouped into three parts: First establishing the context of how the Business Model Canvas (BMC) is used to design business models and explore the way in which CAD can contribute to the design activity. The second part extends on this by proposing new technics and tools which support elicitation, evaluation (assessment) and evolution of business models design with CAD. This includes features such as multi-color tagging to easily connect elements, rules to validate coherence of business models and features that are adapted to the correct business model proficiency level of its users. A new way to describe and visualize multiple versions of a business model and thereby help in addressing the business model as a dynamic object was also researched. The third part explores extensions to the business model canvas such as an intermediary model which helps IT alignment by connecting business model and enterprise architecture. And a business model pattern for privacy in a mobile environment, using privacy as a key value proposition. The prototyped techniques and proposition for using CAD tools in business model modeling will allow commercial CAD developers to create tools that are better suited to the needs of practitioners.

Tässä työssä raportoidaan harjoitustyön kehittäminen ja toteuttaminen Aktiivisen- ja robottinäön kurssille. Harjoitustyössä suunnitellaan ja toteutetaan järjestelmä joka liikuttaa kappaleita robottikäsivarrella kolmiuloitteisessa avaruudessa. Kappaleidenpaikkojen määrittämiseen järjestelmä käyttää digitaalisia kuvia. Tässä työssä esiteltävässä harjoitustyötoteutuksessa käytettiin raja-arvoistusta HSV-väriavaruudessa kappaleiden segmentointiin kuvasta niiden värien perusteella. Segmentoinnin tuloksena saatavaa binäärikuvaa suodatettiin mediaanisuotimella kuvan häiriöiden poistamiseksi. Kappaleen paikkabinäärikuvassa määritettiin nimeämällä yhtenäisiä pikseliryhmiä yhtenäisen alueen nimeämismenetelmällä. Kappaleen paikaksi määritettiin suurimman nimetyn pikseliryhmän paikka. Kappaleiden paikat kuvassa yhdistettiin kolmiuloitteisiin koordinaatteihin kalibroidun kameran avulla. Järjestelmä liikutti kappaleita niiden arvioitujen kolmiuloitteisten paikkojen perusteella.

Diplomityön tavoitteena oli selvittää elintarvikepakkauksiin soveltuvan graafisen kartongin potentiaalinen hajun aiheuttaja. Lisäksi tavoitteena oli vähentää päällystetyn tasakoosteisen (SBS) kolmikerroskartongin hajutasoa keskittyen päällystyspastakomponentteihin sekä massaosaston jälkeen annosteltaviin kemikaaleihin. Kirjallisuusosassa tarkasteltiin eri kartonkilajeja, päällystyspastoja ja sen sisältämiä komponentteja, pääpainon ollessa kuitenkin kartongin hajuominaisuuksiin vaikuttavien tekijöiden selvittämisessä. Lisäksi luotiin katsaus kartonkien aistinvaraisiin ja instrumentaalisiin määritysmenetelmiin. Instrumentaalisista määritysmenetelmistä käsiteltiin headspace –kaasukromatografia (HSGC) sekä korkeanerotuskyvyn nestekromatografia yhdistettynä massaspektrometriin (HPLC/MS). Kokeellisen osan alussa kartoitettiin päällystyskemikaalien sekä liima- ja retentioaineiden haihtuvat yhdisteet HSGC- ja HPLC/MS –tekniikoiden avulla. Kaasukromatografisesti analysoidut kokonaishaihtuvien tasot eivät poikenneet normaaleista tasoista, joten jouduttiin siirtymään HPLC/MS –menetelmään. HPLC/MS –tekniikalla on päästy tutkimaan herkästi haihtuvien typpiyhdisteiden amiinipitoisuuksia. Kemikaalimittausten perusteella vaihdettiin potentiaaliset hajua aiheuttavat kemikaalit, kovete ja synteettinen paksuntaja, markkinoilla oleviin vaihtoehtoisiin kemikaaleihin ja suoritettiin pilot -koeajo sekä tehdasmittakaavaiset koeajot. Työssä perehdyttiin myös varastoinnin aiheuttamiin vaikutuksiin eri kartonkilaatujen aistinvaraisissa ominaisuuksissa. Päällystyspastan kemikaaleista suuren hajukuorman aiheuttavat kovete, dispergointiaine, päällystyspigmentit ja lateksit sekä synteettinen paksuntaja. Kovetteen annostelumäärä päällystyspastoihin on alhainen, mutta sen sisältämä ammoniakkipitoisuus on kuitenkin huomattavan suuri. Kovete ohjaakin lopputuotteen ammoniakkipitoisuutta. Merkittävän metyyliamiinikuorman sisältää dispergointiaine. Sen vaikutus lopputuotteeseen voidaan olettaa vähäiseksi johtuen kemikaalin pienestä määrästä pastassa. Päällystyspigmenttien ja lateksien korkea metyyliamiinikuorma voi puolestaan aiheuttaa lopputuotteeseen huomattavan hajukuorman johtuen niiden suurista annostelumääristä. Eri synteettisille paksuntajille tehtyjen tutkimusten mukaan niiden hajukuormat olivat hyvin samankaltaisia ja vaikutus lopputuotteen kokonaishajutasoon jäi pieneksi. Aistinvaraisesti tarkasteltuna eri kartonkilaaduille saadaan eri hajutasoja. Elintarvikepakkauksiin soveltuvan graafisen kartongin hajutasot olivat korkeita muihin kartonkilaatuihin nähden niin tuoreena kuin varastoinnin jälkeen. Erityisesti tuoreen kartonkinäytteen metyyliamiinipitoisuus ylitti hajukynnyksen. Käytetty lateksi, kovete ja synteettinen paksuntaja näyttävät muodostavan niin tiiviin hajua koteloivan päällystekerroksen kartongin pinnalle, että hajua vapautuu pitkällä aikavälillä. Myös varastointi tiiviinä pakkauksena estää amiinien haihtumisen. Tutkimusten mukaan ammoniakkivapaalla PZC –kovetteella saadaan alennettua graafisen kartongin ammoniakkikuormaa huomattavasti. Tämä on vaikuttamassa myös lopputuotteen hajutasoon, jota on mahdollisuus alentaa käyttämällä ammoniakkivapaata kovetetta.

Oral mucosa is a frequent site of primary herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) infection, whereas intraoral recurrent disease is very rare. Instead, reactivation from latency predominantly results in asymptomatic HSV shedding to saliva or recurrent labial herpes (RLH) with highly individual frequency. The current study aimed to elucidate the role of human oral innate and acquired immune mechanisms in modulation of HSV infection in orolabial region. Saliva was found to neutralize HSV-1, and to protect cells from infection independently of salivary antibodies. Neutralization capacity was higher in saliva from asymptomatic HSV-seropositive individuals compared to subjects with history of RLH or seronegative controls. Neutralization was at least partially associated with salivary lactoferrin content. Further, lactoferrin and peroxidase-generated hypothiocyanite were found to either neutralize HSV-1 or interfere with HSV-1 replication, whereas lysozyme displayed no anti-HSV-1 activity. Lactoferrin was also shown to modulate HSV-1 infection by inhibiting keratinocyte proliferation. RLH susceptibility was further found to be associated with Th2 biased cytokine responses against HSV, and a higher level of anti- HSV-IgG with Th2 polarization, indicating lack of efficiency of humoral response in the control of HSV disease. In a three-dimensional cell culture, keratinocytes were found to support both lytic and nonproductive infection, suggesting HSV persistence in epithelial cells, and further emphasizing the importance of peripheral immune control of HSV. These results suggest that certain innate salivary antimicrobial compounds and Th1 type cellular responses are critically important in protecting the host against HSV disease, implying possible applications in drug, vaccine and gene therapy design.

Tässä tutkimuksessa toteutettiin uusi versio aikaisemmin tuotetusta työkalusta merkintöjen tekemiseksi pääasiassa silmänpohjakuviin. Tarkoituksena oli toteuttaa kuvankäsittelyyn perustuvia aputoimintoja kuvien valaistuksenkorjaamiseksi, sekä korostaa lääkärille mahdollisia diabeettiseen retinopatiaan kuuluvia löydöksiä. Kuvien annotoinnin helpottamiseksi toteutettiin kaksi menetelmää valaistuksenkorjaamiseksi: yksiulotteinen käyrämenetelmä sekä värikanavien ominaisuuksia hyödyntävä menetelmä. Kuvien annotoinin helpottamiseksi toteutettiin kuvan vihreän kanavan jakaumaan perustuva aputoiminto, joka pyrkii korostamaan mahdollisia diabeettiseen retinopatiaan kuuluvia löydöksiä.

Pienien värierojen mittaamiseen käytetään CIE:n (The International Commission on Illumination) kehittämää ja standardoitua CIELAB – väriavaruutta ja sille suunniteltua CIEDE2000 – värieromittaria. CIELAB ei kuitenkaan ole täysin yhtenäinen ja siksi mittareita joudutaan virittämään sopivammiksi tähän väriavaruuteen. Työssä tutkitaan millä tavoin CIELAB - väriavaruutta voitaisiin korjata, jotta siitä saataisiin yhtenäisempi ja yksinkertainen ja virittämättömämpi värieromittari toimisi siinä paremmin. Työn tuloksena saatu muokattu väriavaruus paransi yhtenäisyyttä keskimäärin kymmenen prosenttia, mikä on liian vähän kun tavoitteena oli 30 - 50 prosenttia.

Painosalama Oy, Turku, Finland, 2015 Probiotics are used, for example, to prevent and treat diarrhea, allergies and respiratory infections, and there is an increasing interest to use probiotics also for oral health purposes. The most commonly used probiotic bacteria are lactobacilli and bifidobacteria, which are acidogenic and aciduric. From the oral point of view, use of these probiotics may, at least in theory, mean an increased risk of caries. In this thesis, the effects of probiotics on oral microbial composition, acid production of dental plaque and gingival health were studied through in vitro studies and two clinical studies. In a randomized, double-blind and crossover study, 13 healthy adults were allocated into two groups. Half of the subjects first consumed Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG tablets twice a day for two weeks, and after the washout period, L. reuteri tablets twice a day for two weeks. The other half of the subjects used the tablets in reverse order. In another controlled, randomized and double-blind study, 62 healthy adults were allocated into two groups. One group used the test tablets containing L. rhamnosus GG and B. lactis BB-12 and the other group used control tablets without probiotics. The recommendation for the use of the tablets was 4 per day for 4 weeks. Probiotic lactobacilli interfered with S. mutans biofilm formation and the adhesion of S. mutans to saliva-coated hydroxyapatite in vitro. No effect was found in S. mutans levels in the three-species biofilms. In clinical studies, the studied probiotics had no effect on the acid production of plaque. The counts of mutans streptococci and the oral microbial composition remained the same. Tablets containing L. rhamnosus GG and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis BB-12 did decrease the amount of plaque and gingival bleeding. According to our results, it seems that probiotics have beneficial effects on gingival health. The present results confirmed that probiotics are safe and have beneficial effects on oral health. Since the consumption of probiotics by the general population is steadily increasing, an understanding of the functions of probiotics in the oral cavity has become more important. Cajá-manga, also known as golden apple and hog-plum, is an exotic fruit native from Îles de la Société (French Polynesia), which was first introduced in Brazil in 1985. The pulp of ripe fruit was treated with the commercial enzymatic pool and its effect was evaluated in terms of yield, as well as the physical properties viscosity, turbidity and color (L* values). Response surface methodology was used and three levels were adopted for the independent variables temperature (30, 40, and 50 ºC), incubation time (30, 60 and 90 minutes) and enzyme concentration (0.01, 0.05, 0.09 v/v%). A central composite statistical design was used to guide the experimental work. The enzyme treatment highly increased both juice yield (up to 56%) and color (up to 8.6%) and strongly decreased viscosity (up to 57.4%), clarity (up to 77%) and turbidity (up to 85.5%). Incubation time was the most interacting facto, whereas temperature was the least one. Optimization analysis was carried out to reduce enzyme concentration to a minimum by superposing the contour plots of the tested properties, and the recommended ranges of the variables enzyme concentration, process temperature and incubation time were, respectively, 0.042-0.068%, 47.0-49.0 ºC and 82-90 minutes.

The oral pathogen Streptococcus mutans expresses a surface protein, P1, which interacts with the salivary pellicle on the tooth surface or with fluid-phase saliva, resulting in bacterial adhesion or aggregation, respectively. P1 is a target of protective immunity. Its N-terminal region has been associated with adhesion and aggregation functions and contains epitopes recognized by efficacious antibodies. In this study, we used Bacillus subtilis, a gram-positive expression host, to produce a recombinant N-terminal polypeptide of P1 (P1(39-512)) derived from the S. mutans strain UA159. Purified P1(39-512) reacted with an anti-full-length P1 antiserum as well as one raised against intact S. mutans cells, indicating preserved antigenicity. Immunization of mice with soluble and heat-denatured P1(39-512) induced antibodies that reacted specifically with native P1 on the surface of S. mutans cells. The anti-P1(39-512) antiserum was as effective at blocking saliva-mediated aggregation of S. mutans cells and better at blocking bacterial adhesion to saliva-coated plastic surfaces compared with the anti-full-length P1 antiserum. In addition, adsorption of the anti-P1 antiserum with P1(39-512) eliminated its ability to block the adhesion of S. mutans cells to abiotic surfaces. The present results indicate that P1(39-512), expressed and purified from a recombinant B. subtilis strain, maintains important immunological features of the native protein and represents an additional tool for the development of anticaries vaccines.

The objective of this thesis work, is to propose an algorithm to detect the faces in a digital image with complex background. A lot of work has already been done in the area of face detection, but drawback of some face detection algorithms is the lack of ability to detect faces with closed eyes and open mouth. Thus facial features form an important basis for detection. The current thesis work focuses on detection of faces based on facial objects. The procedure is composed of three different phases: segmentation phase, filtering phase and localization phase. In segmentation phase, the algorithm utilizes color segmentation to isolate human skin color based on its chrominance properties. In filtering phase, Minkowski addition based object removal (Morphological operations) has been used to remove the non-skin regions. In the last phase, Image Processing and Computer Vision methods have been used to find the existence of facial components in the skin regions.This method is effective on detecting a face region with closed eyes, open mouth and a half profile face. The experiment’s results demonstrated that the detection accuracy is around 85.4% and the detection speed is faster when compared to neural network method and other techniques.

The purpose of this thesis is to develop a working methodology to color a grey scale image. This thesis is based on approach of using a colored reference image. Coloring grey scale images has no exact solution till date and all available methods are based on approximation. This technique of using a color reference image for approximating color information in grey scale image is among most modern techniques.Method developed here in this paper is better than existing methods of approximation of color information addition in grey scale images in brightness, sharpness, color shade gradients and distribution of colors over objects.Color and grey scale images are analyzed for statistical and textural features. This analysis is done only on basis of luminance value in images. These features are then segmented and segments of color and grey scale images are mapped on basis of distances of segments from origin. Then chromatic values are transferred between these matched segments from color image to grey scale image.Technique proposed in this paper uses better mechanism of mapping clusters and mapping colors between segments, resulting in notable improvement in existing techniques in this category.
