This abstract summarises the 1953-1955 surveys of the distribution of benthos in the Rybinsk Reservoirs. It includes the mean biomass of benthos.

Significance of the photoperiod for the development of Cyclops vicinus. [Translation from: Zoologischer Anzeiger Supplementband 33, 190-195, 1969.]

The significance of the photoperiod, a well-known phenomenon with arthropods, for the development of Cyclops vicinus were studied in laboratory conditions. There are indications that the point of the development process (development of the eggs and proportion of sexes) can be influenced through the photoperiod.

Nuclear hyperfine interactions in W^(182), W^(183), and Pt^(195) as studies by the Mossbauer effect

The Mössbauer technique has been used to study the nuclear hyperfine interactions and lifetimes in W¹⁸² (2⁺ state) and W¹⁸³ (3/2^- and 5/2^- states) with the following results: g(5/2^-)/g(2⁺) = 1.40 ± 0.04; g(3/2^- = -0.07 ± 0.07; Q(5/2^-)/Q(2⁺) = 0.94 ± 0.04; T_1/2(3/2^-) = 0.184 ± 0.005 nsec; T_1/2(5/2^-) >̰ 0.7 nsec. These quantities are discussed in terms of a rotation-particle interaction in W¹⁸³ due to Coriolis coupling. From the measured quantities and additional information on γ-ray transition intensities magnetic single-particle matrix elements are derived. It is inferred from these that the two effective g-factors, resulting from the Nilsson-model calculation of the single-particle matrix elements for the spin operators ŝ_z and ŝ₊, are not equal, consistent with a proposal of Bochnacki and Ogaza.

The internal magnetic fields at the tungsten nucleus were determined for substitutional solid solutions of tungsten in iron, cobalt, and nickel. With g(2⁺) = 0.24 the results are: |H_eff(W-Fe)| = 715 ± 10 kG; |H_eff(W-Co)| = 360 ± 10 kG; |H_eff(W-Ni)| = 90 ± 25 kG. The electric field gradients at the tungsten nucleus were determined for WS₂ and WO₃. With Q(2⁺) = -1.81b the results are: for WS₂, eq = -(1.86 ± 0.05) 10¹⁸ V/cm²; for WO₃, eq = (1.54 ± 0.04) 10¹⁸ V/cm² and ƞ = 0.63 ± 0.02.

The 5/2^- state of Pt¹⁹⁵ has also been studied with the Mössbauer technique, and the g-factor of this state has been determined to be -0.41 ± 0.03. The following magnetic fields at the Pt nucleus were found: in an Fe lattice, 1.19 ± 0.04 MG; in a Co lattice, 0.86 ± 0.03 MG; and in a Ni lattice, 0.36 ± 0.04 MG. Isomeric shifts have been detected in a number of compounds and alloys and have been interpreted to imply that the mean square radius of the Pt¹⁹⁵ nucleus in the first-excited state is smaller than in the ground state.

Archaeological Testing at the John Brice II (Jennings-Brice) House, 18AP53, 195 Prince George Street, Annapolis, Maryland

In the fall of 1989, emergency excavation was undertaken in conjunction with restoration work at the John Brice II (Jennings-Brice) House, 18AP53. The exact date of construction for this brick home is problematic, and it was hoped that archaeological investigation could provide conclusive evidence to firmly establish the structure's date of construction. Excavation of one 5 X 5 ft. unit revealed the presence of 10 separate soil layers and four features of note, described in detail below. Unfortunately, no builders trench or similar feature by which we might date the house's construction was recovered. Future plans and possibilities for excavation at the property are outlined with the hopes of performing subsequent work at this rich site. We anticipate a focus on the arrangement and changes in use of the houselot, amassing evidence to support the presence of a vernacular garden on the property during the 18th century, as well as researching refuse disposal patterns, and clues to changing lifeways through the 18th century.

Dark brown sediment with clasts ranging from small to large. The grains are sub-angular. Two main domains can be seen. Both are coarse grained, but one contains larger grains and potentially more clay material. Lineations are present throughout the sample in multiple directions. Minor rotation around a few larger clasts can be seen, as well as comet structures.

L'Àmbit urbà i periurbà de Rhode entre el 195 aC i el segle II dC

Aquest projecte de recerca es planteja, com a objectiu principal, elaborar una contextualització de Rhode entre el 195 aC i mitjan segle II dC. Es tracta d’assolir noves hipòtesis sobre el final relativament sobtat que pateix la fundació massaliota, quin són els motius del seu abandonament, si aquest es produeix totalment, quins fets porten a la recuperació d’aquest espai i quin paper pot jugar l'àmbit periurbà de Rhode durant tot aquest període. Alhora, es cerca posar en relació els esdeveniments que passen a Rhode amb el procés de romanització que pateix el territori

Manuela, la impensable: un diálogo entre Amor y gloria: el romance de Manuela Sáenz y el Libertador Simón Bolívar (1952), de María Jesús Alvarado, y Manuela Sáenz, la divina loca (195?), de Olga Briceño (Estudios)

En este artículo se analiza el diálogo que establecen las intelectuales latinoamericanas con la Historia oficial por medio de determinadas ficciones de archivo publicadas en la década de 1950. Al respecto, es importante tener en cuenta que tras la adquisición de derechos civiles por parte de las mujeres latinoamericanas en las décadas de 1930 y 1940 –cuando conquistaron el derecho al voto, ingresaron masivamente a las universidades y se erigieron como posibles representantes de los intereses públicos–, las intelectuales del continente demandaron la adscripción a alguna genealogía histórica que les proporcionara coherencia y profundidad identitaria. En muchas ocasiones debieron echar mano del discurso literario para negociar su existencia presente con el pasado histórico y ampliar los límites de la fundación continental con la visibilización de las voces y subjetividades femeninas. En este marco se publican los dos libros que componen el corpus: Manuela Sáenz, la divina loca (195?), de la venezolana Olga Briceño, y Amor y gloria: el romance de Manuela Sáenz y el Libertador Simón Bolívar (1952), de la peruana María Jesús Alvarado. Estas lecturas permitirán reflexionar en torno al proceso de historización de la alteridad demandado por las nuevas ciudadanas del continente, determinar sus alcances y la subjetividad resultante de este enfrentamiento.
