(Table T1) Trace element concentration and isotopic composition of pore waters from ODP Leg 168 sites

Pore water was collected from each of 10 sites during Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Leg 168 on the eastern flank of the Juan de Fuca Ridge. These ten sites delineate a transect perpendicular to the present ridge axis and span a crustal age of 0.86-3.59 Ma. At nine of the ten sites the entire sediment section, which ranged from 41.3 to 613.8 m thick, was cored and attempts were made to recover at least one whole round of sediment per section of core for extraction of pore water. Several (2-5) whole-round sediment samples were taken from the uppermost and lowermost cores to constrain the chemical gradient near the sediment/water and sediment/basalt interfaces, respectively. Pore water was extracted from whole-round sediment core sections by squeezing only the most pristine sediment in a titanium squeezer designed by Manheim and Sayles (1974). Two additional water samples were collected in situ using the water-sampler temperature probe (WSTP; Barnes, 1988, doi:10.2973/odp.proc.ir.110.104.1988). Both of these samples were collected in the cased section of the open borehole from ODP Hole 1026B. Formation fluids were flowing up the cased hole into the overlying deep seawater (Fisher et al., 1997, doi:10.1029/97GL01286). Parlamentares afirmam que o silêncio do Poder Executivo pode atrapalhar os trabalhos da Constituinte. O Deputado Nelton Friedrich (PMDB-PR) declara que, num momento em que se desejam mudanças profundas e a volta das prerrogativas do Poder Legislativo, não é possível que o Executivo continue se comportando como no período autoritário. O Deputado Ruy Nedel (PMDB-RS) afirma que os membros da Constituinte precisam de dados do governo para que possam ter mais base de sustentação nos seus argumentos em matéria constitucional. Em Plenário, constituintes discutem o sistema de governo. O Deputado Bonifácio de Andrada (PDS-MG) é a favor do parlamentarismo por ser o sistema do diálogo e da responsabilidade política, enquanto que o presidencialismo é o regime do monólogo e da irresponsabilidade política. Para o Deputado Vivaldo Barbosa (PDT-RJ) a melhor forma no Brasil de hoje é o presidencialismo, no sentido de buscar a democracia e uma sociedade mais justa. Na sessão O Povo Pergunta, cidadã quer saber o que está sendo feito para acabar com a dívida externa. O Deputado Raimundo Bezerra (PMDB-CE) responde que está sendo feita uma auditoria da dívida externa do Brasil.

On new or insufficiently-known Chytridinae [Translation from: Archiv fur Protistenkunde 54 168-173 + pl.9, 1926]

This partial translation of a larger paper provides taxonomic descriptions of 5 fungal zoospores species: Olpidium vampyrellae, 0. pseudosporearum, 0. leptophrydis, Rhizophidium leptophrydis and Chytridium lateoperculatum.

Cross-sectional study of 168 patients with hepatorenal tyrosinaemia and implications for clinical practice

Background: Hepatorenal tyrosinaemia (Tyr 1) is a rare inborn error of tyrosine metabolism. Without treatment, patients are at high risk of developing acute liver failure, renal dysfunction and in the long run hepatocellular carcinoma. The aim of our study was to collect cross-sectional data. Methods. Via questionnaires we collected retrospective data of 168 patients with Tyr 1 from 21 centres (Europe, Turkey and Israel) about diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and outcome. In a subsequent consensus workshop, we discussed data and clinical implications. Results: Early treatment by NTBC accompanied by diet is essential to prevent serious complications such as liver failure, hepatocellular carcinoma and renal disease. As patients may remain initially asymptomatic or develop uncharacteristic clinical symptoms in the first months of life newborn mass screening using succinylacetone (SA) as a screening parameter in dried blood is mandatory for early diagnosis. NTBC-treatment has to be combined with natural protein restriction supplemented with essential amino acids. NTBC dosage should be reduced to the minimal dose allowing metabolic control, once daily dosing may be an option in older children and adults in order to increase compliance. Metabolic control is judged by SA (below detection limit) in dried blood or urine, plasma tyrosine (<400 μM) and NTBC-levels in the therapeutic range (20-40 μM). Side effects of NTBC are mild and often transient. Indications for liver transplantation are hepatocellular carcinoma or failure to respond to NTBC. Follow-up procedures should include liver and kidney function tests, tumor markers and imaging, ophthalmological examination, blood count, psychomotor and intelligence testing as well as therapeutic monitoring (SA, tyrosine, NTBC in blood). Conclusion: Based on the data from 21 centres treating 168 patients we were able to characterize current practice and clinical experience in Tyr 1. This information could form the basis for clinical practice recommendations, however further prospective data are required to underpin some of the recommendations.

Brown sediment with three main domains; two different fine grained domains and one coarse grained domain. The fine grained domains can be distinguished based on the abundance of organic material (darker). Both domains contain lineations. The coarse grained domain contains clasts ranging from small to medium in size and angular to rounded in shape. Rotation structures, lineations and comet structures can be seen in this domain. It also contains some fractured grains.
