Estudio del tiempo de reacción ante estímulos sonoros y visuales.

Tradicionalmente se ha aceptado que el tiempo de reacción (TR) ante estímulos sonoros es menor que ante estímulos visuales. Sin embargo, planteamos la hipótesis de que el TR ante estímulos visuales sea más rápido que ante estímulos sonoros, lo que cobra gran importancia en algunas pruebas deportivas. Se analizaron las diferencias en el TR electivo manual según estímulos sonoros y visuales en una muestra suficiente de sujetos físicamente activos, relacionando factores como el género, el nivel de práctica deportiva y el deporte practicado. El diseño del estudio fue de tipo correlacional, participando 80 voluntarios, con una edad media de 22.6 ±3.7 años. Para la medición del TR se utilizó el programa SuperLab®, comparándose el TR ante estímulos visuales y sonoros por cada sujeto participante. Los resultados obtenidos muestran que el TR medio fue significativamente menor ante estímulos visuales que ante estímulos sonoros. Así mismo, los varones presentaron un TR significativamente más corto que las mujeres para el TR visual, no siendo significativas estas diferencias para el estímulo auditivo. No se registraron diferencias significativas según estímulo para el resto de factores estudiados. Finalmente se presentan sugerencias de futura indagación en base a los hallazgos obtenidos.

Student Independent Projects Environmental Studies 2012: Creating Effective University Carbon Inventories: Best

Universities have a special capacity and responsibility to address climate change and this paper focuses on carbon inventories as an important tool for reducing emissions on university campuses. I first describe carbon inventories then analyze three universities that have already developed sustainability action and baseline inventories: Dalhousie University, Mount Allison University, and the University of Victoria. From the case studies, I identify and discuss six conditions important for the successful implementation of carbon inventories. Finally, the case study findings are applied to Grenfell Campus and a carbon inventory implementation plan is proposed for this institution. The paper draws on qualitative Methodologies (interviews and case studies) using the theoretical frame work of ecological economics and the concepts of externalities, sustainable development, and policy instruments.

Gestão Social em Empreendimentos Econômicos Solidários: uma abordagem no Oeste Potiguar

The central research question was to search for data to ratify the theory and discourse of the so-called practitioners of economic solidarity, by defending the substantive rationality should guide the principles of economic solidary, designing the space economy incidental and not the primacy of relations in determining social as well, reflecting the predominance of dimensions of social management in administrative practices of ESS's. For both analyzed the theoretical dimensions of social management - sociopolitical, economic, organizational and environmental - manifested in organizational practices supportive of economic organization Potiguar West. For the success of the research realized the triangulation involving a combination of quantitative and qualitative methodological approaches. At first the research will use a quantitative approach, from the cluster analysis, to verify the behavior of the sample chosen for this study. In the second stage of the qualitative study was carried out focus group technique (FLICK, 2002) for further analysis of the dimensions of social management on organizational practices supportive of economic organization, related to the principles of Solidary Economy, established in a quantitative approach. In quantitative analysis, the socio-political dimension, it was clear that the more equity instruments of internal and external, from the purposeful living in public spaces, the best monetary results. Another point worth stressing concerns the economic dimension, with the practice reciprocity prevailing in market. Thus, the qualitative approach was possible to understand the processes of exchange of product or service. Rural enterprises surveyed in the allocation of the agro-ecological products have the following scale of priority, sequentially: self-consumption (domestic), market and exchange. The research leads to the fact that training and practices that enhance the socio-political dimension (knowledge, empowerment, sense of belonging) become the guiding principle for the strengthening of the social management in the context of other dimensions, leading to gains sociopolitical, economic, organizational and environmental. Despite the weaknesses found in the organizational dimension and environment, both in a quantitative as in qualitative, we determined that the practices of ESS's Potiguar West incorporate predominantly elements of social management and economic solidarity, with a preponderance of substantive rationality in the primacy of the instrumental. Finally, research has brought information that the participants of the ESS's do not give the money economy primacy in determining social relations, which in turn leads to the confirmation that, in practice the solidarity economy, prevailing the dominance of substantive rationality, as a guide for organizational practices

Qualitätssicherung an österreichischen Hochschulen. Eine Bestandsaufnahme. Bericht gemäß §28 HS-QSG zum Stand 2015

Die AQ Austria ist durch das Hochschul-Qualitätssicherungsgesetz (HS-QSG) beauftragt, alle drei Jahre einen Bericht zur Entwicklung der Qualitätssicherung an hochschulischen Bildungseinrichtungen zu erstellen. In diesem ersten Bericht werden Gemeinsamkeiten und Spezifika der drei Hochschulsektoren – öffentliche Universitäten, Privatuniversitäten und Fachhochschulen – bei der Gestaltung des internen Qualitätsmanagements sowie bei den Maßnahmen der Qualitätssicherung und –entwicklung aufgezeigt. Die aktuellen Themenbereiche und Fragestellungen sind in die nationalen Rahmenbedingungen eingebettet, innerhalb derer die österreichischen Hochschulen agieren und die die Qualitätssicherung an den österreichischen Hochschulen mitbestimmen.

Computación Efímera: identificando retos para la investigación en videojuegos

La Computación Efímera (Eph-C , por sus siglas en inglés, Ephemerical Computing) es un nuevo paradigma de computación de reciente creación que pretende sacar provecho de la naturaleza pasajera (o sea, asociada a un tiempo de vida limitado) de los recursos computacionales. En este trabajo se introducirá este nuevo paradigma Eph-C de forma general, y se irá poco a poco enfocando específicamente dentro del contexto del proceso de desarrollo de videojuegos, mostrando posibles aplicaciones y beneficios dentro de las principales líneas de investigación asociadas a la creación de los mismos. Se trata de un trabajo preliminar que intenta indagar en las posibilidades de aplicar la computación efímera en la creación de productos en la industria del videojuego. Lo que presentamos aquí debe ser valorado como un trabajo preliminar que intenta a su vez servir de inspiración para otros posibles investigadores o desarrolladores de videojuegos.

Efficacy of neurostimulation to treat symptoms of Mal de Debarquement Syndrome. A preliminary study using repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation

Mal de debarquement syndrome (MdDS) is a rare and poorly understood condition of perceived continual motion. Using a multiple-case design (n = 13; 8 f; 63.5 ± 12.6 years), this study investigated the efficacy of eight 20-min sessions, over 4 weeks, of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) of the dorsolateral pre-frontal cortex. Compared to sham, rTMS demonstrated improvement in balance and confidence in daily living activities. rTMS shows promise for the treatment of MdDS. However, larger trials with longer intervention periods are required.
