Wie lässt sich das Interesse am Erlernen von Deutsch als Fremdsprache (wieder) steigern? : Warum lernt man als schwedischer Schüler neben der eigenen Muttersprache gerade Deutsch als zweite Fremdsprache? Was sind Anreize dafür?

By the means of a questionnaire the present work examines the attitudes among pupils between the 5th and 9th grade towards choosing French, Spanish or German as their third language. The main question to be answered is "What needs to be improved to raise the interest in choosing specifically German as their preferred third language?". The other questions posed are for example "Do they want to study a language at all?", "Which language do they want to study and why?" or "What motivates them to keep studying generally?". The results show a high motivation and that the most pupils have already decided for a specific language at the middle of the 5th grade. Family and friends play a crucial role in choosing their language in combination with other factors such as the experiences of visiting countries or settings where the target language is used. To raise the popularity of German as the chosen language is not a short time project. More variation in teaching and real contact with German people, for instance language trips, needs to be done or improved. Nearly all of the pupils want to use modern techniques like chat or video conversations instead of just reading a text book.

Verben für das wissenschaftliche Schreiben in der Fremdsprache Deutsch

Zur Unterstützung ausländischer DaF-Studierender, wenn diese vorhaben eine Haus- oder Abschlussarbeit in ihrer Fremdsprache Deutsch zu verfassen, wurde eine Verbtabelle im HTML-Format erstellt, die 20 repräsentative Verben des Deutschen enthält, die wissenschaftlich relevant sind. Die Verbtabelle enthält auch notwendige Verbgrammatik, Kollokationen, Textbausteine und ganze Sätze, die für wissenschaftliche Texte geeignet sind.

Das Osterreichische Deutsch: analisi della variante austriaca alla luce della concezione del tedesco come lingua pluricentrica

Il presente elaborato propone un’analisi del tedesco standard austriaco e prende le mosse da un argomento di attualità, ovvero la discussione sulla necessità di meglio preservare i tratti caratteristici di questa varietà linguistica, di fronte alla tendenza, riscontrabile soprattutto tra i più giovani, a utilizzare sempre più spesso termini ed espressioni tipiche del tedesco parlato in Germania. Questo fenomeno è strettamente legato all’influenza dei moderni mezzi di comunicazione e all’ampia disponibilità di materiale doppiato, che contribuisce a diffondere la varietà caratteristica del nord della Germania negli altri paesi di lingua tedesca. Dopo aver fornito alcune informazioni di carattere storico e spiegato alcune nozioni di linguistica, la riflessione si concentra sul concetto di lingua pluricentrica e sugli spunti che quest’ultimo offre in ambito formativo, sia per la formazione scolastica dei madrelingua che nel campo dell’insegnamento del tedesco come lingua straniera.

Amniotic fluid stem cells produce robust mineral deposits on biodegradable scaffolds

Insufficient availability of osteogenic cells limits bone regeneration through cell-based therapies. This study investigated the potential of amniotic fluid–derived stem (AFS) cells to synthesize mineralized extracellular matrix within porous medical-grade poly-e-caprolactone (mPCL) scaffolds. The AFS cells were initially differentiated in two-dimensional (2D) culture to determine appropriate osteogenic culture conditions and verify physiologic mineral production by the AFS cells. The AFS cells were then cultured on 3D mPCL scaffolds (6-mm diameter9-mm height) and analyzed for their ability to differentiate to osteoblastic cells in this environment. The amount and distribution of mineralized matrix production was quantified throughout the mPCL scaffold using nondestructive micro computed tomography (microCT) analysis and confirmed through biochemical assays. Sterile microCT scanning provided longitudinal analysis of long-term cultured mPCL constructs to determine the rate and distribution of mineral matrix within the scaffolds. The AFS cells deposited mineralized matrix throughout the mPCL scaffolds and remained viable after 15 weeks of 3D culture. The effect of predifferentiation of the AFS cells on the subsequent bone formation in vivo was determined in a rat subcutaneous model. Cells that were pre-differentiated for 28 days in vitro produced seven times more mineralized matrix when implanted subcutaneously in vivo. This study demonstrated the potential of AFS cells to produce 3D mineralized bioengineered constructs in vitro and in vivo and suggests that AFS cells may be an effective cell source for functional repair of large bone defects

Twitter and Sports : Football Fandom in Emerging and Established Markets

Twitter and other social media have become increasingly important tools for maintaining the relationships between fans and their idols across a range of activities, from politics and the arts to celebrity and sports culture. Twitter, Inc. itself has initiated several strategic approaches, especially to entertainment and sporting organisations; late in 2012, for example, a Twitter, Inc. delegation toured Australia in order to develop formal relationships with a number of key sporting bodies covering popular sports such as Australian Rules Football, A-League football (soccer), and V8 touring car racing, as well as to strengthen its connections with key Australian broadcasters and news organisations (Jackson & Christensen, 2012). Similarly, there has been a concerted effort between Twitter Germany and the German Bundesliga clubs and football association to coordinate the presence of German football on Twitter ahead of the 2012–2013 season: the Twitter accounts of almost all first-division teams now bear the official Twitter verification mark, and a system of ‘official’ hashtags for tweeting about individual games (combining the abbreviations of the two teams, e.g. #H96FCB) has also been instituted (Twitter auf Deutsch, 2012).

Die Eigenschaften der Benennungen und ihr Einfluss auf deren Verwendung am Beispiel der Euro-Währung : Eine quantitative und kontrastive Analyse der Terminologie im Finnischen und im Deutschen

This dissertation deals with the terminology of the Euro currency. Its aims are to determine the characteristics of the designations in a certain LSP and to discover whether the recommendations and rules that have been given to the formation of designations and 'ideal' designations have any influence on the usage of the designations. The characteristics analysed include length of the designation, part of speech, form, formation method, constancy, monosemy, suitability to a concept system and degree of specialty. The study analyses the actual usage of the designations in texts and the implementation of the designations. The study is an adaptation of a terminometric survey and uses concept analysis and quantitative analysis as its basic methods. The frequency of each characteristic is measured in terms of statistics. It is assumed that the 'ideality' of a designation influences its usage, for example that if a designation is short, it is used more than its longer rivals (synonyms). The results are analysed in a corpus consisting of a compilation of different texts concerning the Euro. The corpus is divided according to three features: year (1998-2003), genre (judicial texts, annual reports and brochures) and language (Finnish and German). Each analysis is performed according to each of these features and compared with the others. The results indicate that some of the characteristics of the designations indeed seem to have an influence on the usage of the designations. For example, monosemy and suitability to the concept system often lead to the implementation of the designation having the ideal or certain value in these characteristics in the analysed Finnish material. In German material, an 'ideal' value in the characteristics leads to the implementation of the designations more often than in Finnish. The contrastive study indicates that, for example, suitability to a concept system leads to implementation of a designation in judicial texts more often than in other genres. The recommendations given to an 'ideal' designation are thus often acceptable, but they cannot be generalized for all languages in the same extent.
