Cities, more particularly ‘smart’ cities, could become a catalyst for economic and social development. For this to happen, Europe will need a new type of integrated infrastructure, a new urban governance and policy structure, as well as new finance and business models. Successful smart projects will eventually develop into new business models and companies. While the European Commission cannot mandate or regulate this top down, it has a role to play in nurturing new initiatives to allow Europe the possibility of developing its own Google and Apple.

The objective of this research is to present cluster initiative approaches in post industrial regions characterized by similar economic history and challenges, with additional emphasis on their role in promoting innovation among regional businesses. The research is based on a comparison study of two environmental industry clusters: Environmental Technology Cluster (ET) from British West Midlands and ACLIMA from Spanish Basque Country. The study analyzes clusters' design and their role in fostering innovation based on environment industry clusters. In both regions environmental industry clusters represent strong potential for further dynamic development with grow opportunities driven by legislation introduced at EU, national or regional levels. The paper compares clusters' heterogeneity, goals and priorities, financing schemes, management structure, types of projects, character of private-public partnerships, challenges, as well as clusters' collaboration at regional/national/international levels. Also focus is given on how the clusters enhance innovation and what types of projects are executed by the regions in this field.

South Asia's pursuit of economic development has entailed considerable damage to and exposed the fragility of the physical environment of the region. This paper provides an analytical overview of the of the environmental problem that manifest themselves in South Asia in a comparative perspective with East and Southeast Asian countries as well as selected developed market economics. To date, South Asian development process has been environment-intensive and environment-depleting. It is argued that environmental problems are likely to set serious constraints to sustain growth in production to support a growing population. By exploring the relationship between indices of human welfare and bio-diversity conservation. the paper exposes the dichotomy of the development process. Finally, the study underscores the need for a range of policy options that rely both based and non-market based instruments in an integrated setting to enviromnentalize South Asian economic development. Background: The provision of aphasia-friendly environments is important for reducing the disability experienced by people with aphasia. However, the term aphasia-friendly environment has yet to be explicitly defined in the literature. Aims. This review defines aphasia-friendly environments, critically evaluates the relevant literature. and highlights the gaps in research in this area. Main Contribution: The World Health Organisation's (WHO) International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) (WHO, 2001) is Used as a framework for identifying the specific barriers and facilitators that need to be considered when creating an aphasia-friendly environment. Research focusing on Multiple ICF environmental factor domains is presented, followed by a review Of Studies that focus on specific environmental factor domains. Conclusions. More research identifying the range of environmental factors that may be important to consider when creating aphasia-friendly environments is required. In addition, further rigorous studies focusing on specific ICF environmental factor domains are needed.
