Design And Development Of A Named Entity Based Question Answering System For Malayalam Language

This is a Named Entity Based Question Answering System for Malayalam Language. Although a vast amount of information is available today in digital form, no effective information access mechanism exists to provide humans with convenient information access. Information Retrieval and Question Answering systems are the two mechanisms available now for information access. Information systems typically return a long list of documents in response to a user’s query which are to be skimmed by the user to determine whether they contain an answer. But a Question Answering System allows the user to state his/her information need as a natural language question and receives most appropriate answer in a word or a sentence or a paragraph. This system is based on Named Entity Tagging and Question Classification. Document tagging extracts useful information from the documents which will be used in finding the answer to the question. Question Classification extracts useful information from the question to determine the type of the question and the way in which the question is to be answered. Various Machine Learning methods are used to tag the documents. Rule-Based Approach is used for Question Classification. Malayalam belongs to the Dravidian family of languages and is one of the four major languages of this family. It is one of the 22 Scheduled Languages of India with official language status in the state of Kerala. It is spoken by 40 million people. Malayalam is a morphologically rich agglutinative language and relatively of free word order. Also Malayalam has a productive morphology that allows the creation of complex words which are often highly ambiguous. Document tagging tools such as Parts-of-Speech Tagger, Phrase Chunker, Named Entity Tagger, and Compound Word Splitter are developed as a part of this research work. No such tools were available for Malayalam language. Finite State Transducer, High Order Conditional Random Field, Artificial Immunity System Principles, and Support Vector Machines are the techniques used for the design of these document preprocessing tools. This research work describes how the Named Entity is used to represent the documents. Single sentence questions are used to test the system. Overall Precision and Recall obtained are 88.5% and 85.9% respectively. This work can be extended in several directions. The coverage of non-factoid questions can be increased and also it can be extended to include open domain applications. Reference Resolution and Word Sense Disambiguation techniques are suggested as the future enhancements

China's Labor Question

The Honda workers’ strike in 2010 attracted world wide attention. It was one of thousands of labor disputes that happen every year in China, but it was the first major calling for the right of workers to represent themselves in collective bargaining. The question of representation is therefore the main topic of the book. The various contributors to this volume share the view that the Chinese party-state takes the protest against social inequality seriously. It has enacted many laws aimed at channeling dissatisfaction into safe channels. The implementation of these laws, however, lags behind and these laws do not include the right of freedom of association. Without this right, super-exploitation will persist and the system of labor relations will remain prone to eruptive forms of protest. The first part of the book provides an overview of the economic context of Chinese labor relations, the transformation of class-relations, the evolution of labor law, and government policies intended to set a wage floor. Based on extensive field research, the second part looks at the evolution of labor relations at the industry level. In the third part, the focus shifts to the Corporate Social Responsibility agenda in China. The final part looks at the connection between land reform and social inequality.

Débattre sur une question en rapport avec les nanotechnologies et la société au lycée: pour une approche didactique

Les nanotechnologies sont devenues l’un des domaines de la recherche qui a connu une des plus fortes croissances au cours de ces dernières années. Partout dans le monde, des tentatives sont menées afin de proposer des scénarios didactiques d’enseignement des nanotechnologies dès l’école primaire. Compte tenu de l’avancée rapide des nanotechnologies et de leurs controverses de nombreuses questions vont pourtant émerger dans tous les domaines : technologiques, économiques, environnementaux, santé, éducation, éthique, morale et philosophique (Bensaude- Vincent, 2009). Il apparaît essentiel d’étudier les conditions d’enseignement des nanotechnologies auprès de lycéens en intégrant deux dimensions : l’une scientifique, l’autre sociale et éthique. Nos travaux se situent dans le courant de recherche en didactique des sciences qui prend en compte les interactions Sciences – Technologies - Société et plus particulièrement les SSI, (Socio Scientific Issues). Il s’agit d’étudier des dilemmes sociaux inhérents à certains champs scientifiques face aux avancées des sciences et technologies. Les sciences et les technologies sont des artéfacts et sont ainsi sujets à critiques parmi lesquelles les questions de pouvoir et d’inégalités potentielles doivent être étudiées. La mise en débat d’une question est envisagée comme une solution adaptée pour aborder les SSI (Sadler, 2004). Le débat argumenté dans le cadre de l’enseignement des sciences semble être un outil pédagogique adapté pour aborder avec les élèves les rapports entre recherche scientifiques et questions sociétales. A natureza na lineal dos funcionamentos inferenciais: um estudo empírico com base no humor gráfico

Analisa-se se os funcionamentos inferenciais têm uma estrutura própria dos sistemas dinâmicos não lineais, estudados a partir de quatro gráficas humorísticas. Os primeiros resultados com o tratamento estadístico lineal de K-medias projetam a presencia de perfis de diferentes funcionamentos inferenciais em função das diferentes piadas. Os resultados com a técnica da wavelet, proveniente dos sistemas dinâmicos não lineais, mostram patrões dos funcionamentos inferenciais que dão conta de sua natureza multifractal, sem uma sequencialidade fixa e sem uma organização aparente. Isto implica que é necessário revisar a concepção de estádios sequenciais fixos como os que dominam os estudos de desenvolvimento cognitivo.
