Este estudo de caso teve por objetivo analisar a qualidade dos frutos e a produtividade em t/ha de maracujá-amarelo, em dois ciclos anuais, plantados, respectivamente, nos dias 04-10-04 (1º plantio) e 20-08-05 (2º plantio). As mudas da seleção Afruvec foram formadas em tubetes no interior de estufa com tela antiafídeo. O pomar, nos dois ciclos produtivos, foi irrigado por gotejamento, adotando-se uma densidade de 1.600 plantas/ha. O 1º plantio foi erradicado no dia 13-07-05, em função de o pomar apresentar a totalidade das plantas com sintomas típicos do vírus do endurecimento dos frutos (PWV) nas folhas e frutos. No 1º e no 2º plantios, os sintomas tiveram início no dia 26-01-05 e no dia 04-01-06, respectivamente. Não houve necessidade de eliminação de plantas em ambos os plantios, já que o início dos sintomas de PWV ocorreu quando as plantas se encontravam em pleno florescimento. Pelos resultados, pode-se concluir que o manejo adotado regionalmente, com plantio em ciclo anual, permitiu uma ampliação do período de colheita, decorrente da antecipação de plantio no 2º ano; uma produtividade de 16,94 kg/planta e 18,39 kg/planta, no 1º e 2º anos, respectivamente; um aumento da rentabilidade na safra de 2006 em função: da maior produção, melhor cotação dos frutos para mesa e indústria, e aproveitamento dos investimentos realizados no 1º ano. As técnicas empregadas promoveram uma eficiente redução do potencial de inóculo regional, favorecendo uma sustentabilidade na produção.

The objective of this work was to develop a methodology for seed processing and X-ray analysis and to study imbibition pattern in seeds of candeia (Eremanthus incanus). Seeds were gathered in 2001 and 2002 in Morro do Pilar and Lavras respectively, processed and stored in a cold chamber (5ºC/60%RH) until the start of experiments. In order to identify unfilled seeds, a protocol was developed for X-ray use combining radiation energy (Kv) and exposure time (seconds). For elimination of unfilled seeds, an experiment was conducted using a South Dakota seed blower whereby different opening settings and ventilation times were combined. Original seed lots and categorized lots following radiograph viewing were tested by germination tests, with seeds being cleansed in sodium hypochlorite and scattered over blotting paper in 'gerboxes' and then taken to germinators with alternating temperatures of 20º-30ºC and 10 hours of light, for up to 15 days. Imbibition curves were determined under the conditions 30ºC, 20º-30ºC/10 hours of light and 30º-20ºC/10 hours of light. The X-ray protocol that best allowed viewing of internal seed structures was 30Kv for 45 seconds. Seed separation using the blower setting at a 3.0 opening for 30 seconds raised the number of embryonic seeds to values exceeding 99%, also raising the germination rates as a consequence. The imbibition pattern is three-phased and the germination process is completed in 72 hours. Under alternate temperatures, primary root growth is favored.

Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) are chemical substances extraordinarily toxic and persistent in the environment. Due to these properties, POPs are targets of the Stockholm Convention which aims to provide means to eliminate production and use by encouraging the reduction and, where possible, eliminating the release of these contaminants to the environment. One of the articles of this _Convention aims to assess the basal levels of such substances in the environment to monitor both the reduction of release to the environment, and to assess human exposure, using analyzes of milk and air for example. Although efforts to control POPs production and release to the environment have been made, data about their levels in Brazil are still scarce, mainly in the atmosphere or indoor environment. Considering the permanence of people inside its house, this study presents a method for POP extraction from XAD-2 sorbent employed in indoor air sampling, with identification and quantification by GC-ECD. GC-ECD linear range of the studied analytes, congeners of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCB) (28, 52, 101, 118, 138, 153 and 180), DDTs and their metabolites (DDDs, DDEs) and endosullan (isomers c - and 13 - and metabolite endosulfan sulfate) ranged between 0.5 and 16.0 ng mL-I with r2 > 0.967. The method developing consist of selecting the extraction solvent system by agitation (90 rpm, 1 hour) with n-hexan,e (2 mL) or n-hexane:acetone (1:1, v/v) (2 mL), concentration the extract with a gentle N2 stream, and evaluation of breakthrough with passage or air through the fortified XAD-2 cartridge before extraction, employing a low volume air suction pump (Pump Model 224 universal-PCXR8; 5-5000 mL min-1, SKC Inc., Eighty Four, PA, USA), Calibrator Dry-Cal DC-Lite (BIOS, Butler, NJ, USA)). Results of educative actions on the control of vectors for dengue and leishmaniasis were evaluated by using an online semi-present course directed to teachers from Fundamental I Education level in Araçatuba-SP. 40 teachers from municipal schools located on geographical areas of town with higher occurrence of dengue and leishmaniasis cases, attended to the course, which consisted in a conceptual part directed to specific subjects such as vector borne and zoonotic diseases, responsible ownership of pets and health education and a practical phase, directed to execution and application of educative projects in the target schools. Data about the teacher’s specific knowledge, before and after the attendance to the course, were submitted to the Wilcoxon test with a 5% of significant level. The application of practical educative projects was evaluated by multiplicative actions involving target public. Tests showed statistically significant increase in the knowledge about the studied diseases (p<0.0001) after the course, especially on questions related to etiological agent, clinical symptoms on man and animals and prevention. Activities of knowledge multiplication envolved teachers and students which detected the problems and promoted education actions in their neighborhood as stage performing, group cleaning activities and elaboration and distribution of folders during a student pared. In conclusion, educative actions direct to the control of diseases vectors using a semi-present course, provides new knowledge to the teachers, impelling them to motivate their students to adopt vectors control measures and environmental cares and to sensitive the community to collaborate with control diseases.

Necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis is associated with bacteria and predisposing risk factors. The treatment is centered in elimination and/or control of the bacteria and predisposing risk factors. However the disease acute phase could induce sequelae as periodontal tissue destruction which may be treated by periodontal surgical procedures.

The oral rehabilitation has achieved great prominence in the dental implant, especially in the cases of reposition of units dental elements, so it is possible to replace each missing element to implant into your space where the tooth was loss. The reverse planning is fundamental to an appropriate rehabilitation, because promote the elimination of problems that might compromise the aesthetics and function of future dental implants. The objective of this study was to report the treatment plan for a patient in need of oral rehabilitation with implant dental prosthesis, using indications and techniques based on the literature, emphasizing the importance of reverse planning. We conducted an osseointegrated implant surgery using the principles of a connect procedure, thus allowing their successfully installing increasing the predictability of treatment. It is concluded that the success of rehabilitation treatment is directly related to the initial planning, a correct clinical approach and an integrated multidisciplinary team.

The modalities of treatment with prostheses over implants for total edentulous patients can be divided in fixed and removable prostheses (overdentures). The fixed prostheses modality has proven to offer better results as to the functional aspects and, results in higher longevity. Overdentures are considered as a modality of rehabilitation utilized to compensate the need for better retention, aside from augmenting chewing efficiency. Its use is justified by its facilitated hygiene, reduced surgical and prosthetic costs, reestablishment of labial support and elimination of the possibility of air escape. However, this option presents psychosocial downside, since the fact that it is considered a removable rehabilitation modality does not please the majority of patients. Although many patients prefer a fixed implant-supported prosthesis to a removable overdenture, frequently it is necessary to utilize an implant retained overdenture as an alternative to the treatment, due to anatomical, physiological, aesthetic, hygienic, and financial limitations regarding the patient. The objective of this study was to discuss a clinical case of a partially edentulous patient treated in the Implantodontic Surgery Post-Graduation Course from the Kenedy Dentistry Institute Mozarteum/Famosp Unit – Goiânia-Brazil), and submitted to osseointegrated implants surgical fixation techniques. A modality of differential diagnosis was established after osseointegration period, it aimed at facilitating the choice of a rehabilitation model that could favor the patient’s and professional`s expectations. Therefore the appreciated aspects were function, comfort, aesthetics, and especially the patient satisfaction.

Introdução: a eliminação de bactérias dos canais radiculares é essencial no tratamento endodôntico de dentes com polpas necrosadas, desde que bactérias não só causam, mas também mantêm, as lesões periapicais. Objetivo: analisar in vivo a influência de soluções irrigantes (NaOCl 1%, NaOCl 2,5%, solução salina estéril 0,9%) no tratamento de dentes de cães com lesão periapical crônica em sessão única. Métodos: quarenta canais radiculares de três cães da raça Beagle permaneceram expostos à cavidade bucal para permitir a contaminação e a formação de lesões periapicais crônicas. Em seguida, os canais radiculares foram preparados biomecanicamente. Durante a instrumentação, três soluções irrigantes foram utilizadas: G1 – NaOCl 2,5%; G2 – NaOCl 1%; G3 – solução salina estéril 0,9%. O grupo controle (G4) não recebeu tratamento nem selamento coronário. Os canais radiculares foram obturados com cones de guta-percha e Sealapex. As aberturas coronárias foram seladas com IRM e amálgama. Após 6 meses, os animais foram sacrificados e blocos de tecido processados histologicamente para serem corados com hematoxilina e eosina, ou Brown e Brenn. Resultados: não houve diferença histológica significativa entre a utilização de hipoclorito de sódio a 1% ou 2,5% (p>0,05), mas houve entre eles e a solução salina estéril a 0,9% (p<0,05). Conclusão: concluiu-se que o uso de soluções irrigantes com potencial antibacteriano (hipoclorito de sódio a 1% e 2,5%) proveu condições mais favoráveis ao processo de reparo.

Apical surgeries are part of a segment of root canal treatment by which we can correct or eliminate iatrogenic deficiencies arising from conventional endodontic treatment. Currently no consensus among authors regarding to the factors linked to the surgery success as the execution of an apex resection followed by retropreparation and retrofilling. The apex resection performed 3mm from apical vertex allows the elimination of most apical ramifications, and it is a consensus part of the treatment. The preparation of cavities using ultrasonic tips has advantages over those made with drills such as better cleaning of the cavity, the possibility of lower cutting angle of the apical resection and deeper retropreparation. Another detail to consider is the type of tip, since the diamond tips in a more angulated inclination have higher cutting efficiency but causing increased formation of debris on the dentin walls. Finally, filling the cavity with an apical filling material allows proper sealing of the intracanal contents favoring apical healing.
