As úlceras gástricas, além de representarem eventos patológicos comuns na clínica médica, são atualmente consideradas importantes desafios para a terapêutica, à medida que o tratamento e/ou prevenção dessa doença ainda apresentam limitações, como os efeitos adversos e a baixa qualidade de cicatrização. Outro grande problema é a difícil acessibilidade às terapias disponíveis pela população de baixa renda, devido ao seu alto custo. Considerando a problemática abordada, e levando em consideração que estudos têm mostrado que terpenóides têm apresentado atividade antiúlcera bastante significativa, propusemos investigar o efeito gastroprotetor do monoterpeno Citral em úlceras gástricas experimentais induzidas tanto por etanol quanto por antiinflamatórios não esteroidais (utilizando a Indometacina como agente indutor das ulcerações), bem como avaliar seu efeito cicatrizante. O Citral mostrou ser gastroprotetor frente ao agente lesivo etanol, a partir da dose de 25 mg/kg, em uma relação dose-dependente quando administrado oralmente, sendo mais potente do que a Carbenoxolona, utilizada como controle positivo, a partir de uma dose duas vezes menor [dose de 50 mg/kg, na qual o Citral apresentou 98 % de proteção em relação ao controle negativo (Tween 80 a 8%), contra 85 % de proteção proporcionada pela Carbenoxolona na dose de 100 mg/kg]. No entanto, no modelo de indução de úlceras gástricas por Indometacina o Citral mostrou um efeito dual, ao passo que em doses intermediárias (25 e 50 mg/kg) apresentou efeito gastroprotetor, e em doses extremas (100 e 200 mg/kg) apresentou uma significativa potencialização das lesões, permitindo assim a hipótese de um possível efeito antiinflamatório e/ou antinociceptivo nessas doses. Também foi verificado seu efeito cicatrizante na dose de 25 mg/kg, sendo tão eficaz quanto o Lansoprazol (controle positivo)... (Resumo completo, clicar acesso eletrônico abaixo)

This work presents the development of a graphical interface to the Lock-in Amplifier, which is used in physiological studies on the motility of the gastrointestinal tract in rats and signal processing. With a simple and low cost instrumentation, the resources offered by the virtual interface of LabVIEW software allows the creation of commands similar to the actual instrument that, through communication via standard serial port, transmits data between a PC and peripheral device performing specific and particular needs in the amplifier. Created for the lock-in amplifier model SR830 Stanford Research Systems, the remote manipulation gives the user greater accessibility in the process of configuration and calibration. And, since the software is installed, there is the advantage of eliminating the need of purchase new devices to upgrade the system. The commands created were made to perform six basic modifications that are used in routine of the Biomagnetism Laboratory. The sugar and ethanol industry has always stood out in the Brazilian economy. Contributing to the growth and development of the economy and the country the sector has gone through several phases. This paper makes a study of the industry and exposes the work of some authors on the subject in order to demonstrate the economic and social impacts caused by the installation of a sugar cane industry in a small city and its contribution to local development. Objectives: Epidemiological studies have shown a relationship between long-term use of proton pump inhibitors and bone metabolism. However, this relationship has not yet become established. The aim of the present study was to analyze the mechanical properties and bone mineral density (BMD) of rats that were subjected to long-term omeprazole use. Methods: Fifty wistar rats weighing between 200 and 240 g were divided equally into five groups: OMP300 (omeprazole intake at a dose of 300 moL/kg/day); OMP200 (200 moL/ kg/day); OMP40 (40 moL/kg/day); OMP10 (10 moL/kg/day); and Cont (control group; intake of dilution vehicle). The solutions were administered for 90 consecutive days. After the rats had been sacrificed, their BMD, the mechanical properties of the dissected femurs and their serum Ca++ levels were analyzed. Results: The BMD of the OMP300 group was lower than that of the controls (p = 0.006). There was no difference in comparing the OMP200, OMP40 and OMP10 groups with the controls. The maximum strength and rigidity of the femur did not differ in the experimental groups in comparison with the controls. The OMP300 group had a statistically lower serum Ca++ concentration than that of the controls (p = 0.049), but the other groups did not show any difference in relation to the controls. Conclusion: Daily intake of 300moL/kg/day of omeprazole decreased the BMD of the femur, but without changes to the rigidity and strength of the femur in adult rats. © 2

Pharmacological treatments currently used in ethanol addiction are inefficient, requiring new drugs for this purpose. The pro-drug N-Acetylcysteine (N-Ac) has shown efficacy in the treatment of addiction to cocaine and nicotine in preclinical research and clinical pilot studies. When administered, N-Ac is subsequently converted to cysteine, and cystine, which has an action on the central nervous system. However, there are few data about the possible application of N-Ac in the ethanol addiction. Behavioral sensitization is the gradual increase of the psychostimulant effects induced by repeated administration of drugs of abuse, including ethanol, and its development has been linked to important neuroadaptations in addiction. These neuroadaptations occur in neural circuits that mediate the reinforcing properties of these drugs and may involve several proteins. The ΔFosB protein accumulates in neurons after repeated activation and mediates long lasting changes in response to drugs of abuse. These changes are manifested mainly in the nucleus accumbens (Acb) and prefrontal cortex (PFC) neurons. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of N-Ac treatment in the development of ethanol behavioral sensitization and in alterations in the ΔFosB protein in mice. Swiss male mice were exposed to a standardized behavioral sensitization protocol to the experimental conditions of the laboratory and treated with N-Ac. At the end of behavioral sensitization procedure, animals were euthanized and their brains removed for ΔFosB quantification by Western blotting. Two experiments of behavioral sensitization were performed to the standardization of the protocol. The first, although effective in demonstrating the development of behavioral sensitization, was not effective in allowing the evaluation of the expression of the behavioral sensitization.
