This work dealt with the main urban problems Elevated President Costa e Silva, who is the main target of São Paulo's urban criticism. Several factors that are directly related to the presence of the High Expressway in the city, as its road importance, for example were also analyzed. Based on the history of the area around the high and their design, we examined its geographic disposition and its road importance, followed by analysis of its urban problems above the expressway below expresses life and the social question about the presence of Minhocão . Were also made analysis on urban transport and the car culture that led to the design of the High Expressway. Were also raised examples of similar cases around the world to establish parameters for subsequent conceptual framework and guidelines for intervention. Escola Pacheco e Silva anexada ao Hospital de Juqueri (1929-1940)

This article presents the results of research on the Hall-School installed in the Juqueri Hospital, São Paulo, in 1929, by initiative of the psychiatrist Antonio Carlos Pacheco e Silva, and organized by the pediatrician Vicente Baptista da Silva and professors Norberto de Souza Pinto and Celso Guimarães da Fonseca. It is regarded as a real pioneer project for the development of Special Education and of Psychology, formerly named as for the abnormals. One can neatly perceive the change in the treatment of a medical origin only to that of an inclusion of Psychology and Education in the development of children affected by mental deficiency or by psychopathies. The influence of the ideas of educators, such as the ones mentioned above, were fundamental for the changes.

Ignacio de Assis Silva e os estudos literários

This paper aims to honor the semiotician Ignacio Assis Silva printed by the intensity in all his activities, emphasizing mainly on the accuracy insightful essays, which made him not only one of the most important promoters of semiotics greimasian in Brazil, but one of those responsible for its development. It should be noted also that he served with dedication in the Postgraduate Program in Literary Studies FCL/Araraquara UNESP, including efforts since its founding. The program owes much to him and others of FCL semioticians for the healthy integration between programs, Linguistics/Portuguese Language and Literary Studies. The latter was even initially, a literature program focusing on semiotics greimasian. Rui Barbosa: mito, memória e esquecimento

The remembrance of Rui Barbosa has always involved the maintenance of myths fabricated during his lifetime while a reappraisal of his intellectual, literary and political dimensions has been forwarded. Current essay discusses from several bibliographical samples on Brazilian social thought the manner the memory of the lawgiver from Bahia has been appropriated civically and intellectually. A qualitative and quantitative contrast was established between Barbosa’s works published and referred to and those by Joaquim Nabuco, Sílvio Romero and Gilberto Freyre. Mast cell concentration and skin wound contraction in rats treated with Brazilian pepper essential oil (Schinus terebinthifolius Raddi)

PURPOSE: To evaluate wound contraction and the concentration of mast cells in skin wounds treated with 5% BPT essential oil-based ointment in rats. METHODS: Twenty rats, male, of adult age, were submitted to skin surgery on the right (RA) and left antimeres (LA) of the thoracic region. They were divided into two groups: control (RA - wounds receiving daily topical application of vaseline and lanolin) and treated (LA - wounds treated daily with the topical ointment). The skin region with wounds were collected at days 4, 7, 14 and 21 after surgery. Those were fixed in 10% formaldehyde and later processed for paraffin embedding. Sections were obtained and stained by H.E for histopathology analysis. The degree of epithelial contraction was measured and mast cell concentration were also evaluated. RESULTS: The treated group showed higher mast cell concentrations (p<0.05) associated with increased contraction at day 7 and 14 respectively. CONCLUSION: Ointment containing 5% Brazilian pepper tree oil increases mast cell concentration and promotes skin wound contraction in rats.

Projeto Sempre Sorrindo: 10 anos de atenção ao idoso institucionalizado

Introduction: To correctly attend the health needs of the elderly population, it is necessary to invest in training of human resources. Thus, it becomes indispensable to insert the geriatric dentistry content into graduation courses. Objective: To describe the experiences and the results obtained during 10 years of an university extension project focused on oral health care of institutionalized elderly. Methodology: This is a documental and descriptive work, which was analyzed the institutional process of ten years of the University Extension Program, “Always Smiling - Dental Care for the Elderly Institutionalized of Araçatuba, “ developed at the Araçatuba Dental School, FOA/ UNESP. It were collected quantitative and qualitative data, and these were classified and interpreted according to the technique of categorizing the content. Results: In ten years of implementation, the project “Always Smiling” involved undergraduate students, professors and post-graduate students, who together have developed practical activities such as health education, hygiene supervision, recreational and educational activities, epidemiological surveys of oral health conditions and consequently, dental care according to the need of the treatment. Conclusion: The project “Always Smiling” serves as a working model for elderly health care, because it acts involves many aspects, from the prevention of diseases, even to the training of elderly caregivers, benefiting the institutionalized elderly and health professionals.

Comparação de dois métodos de quantificação de carga interna de treinamento em idosos

Tradicionalmente a prescrição de exercícios físicos é baseada unicamente em relação à carga externa. Entretanto, as adaptações fisiológicas em função do treinamento físico dependem da carga interna. Assim, a carga interna deve ser levada em consideração para uma otimização da prescrição exercícios físicos, principalmente durante exercícios em grupos que normalmente são utilizados para a população idosa. Porém, o envelhecimento parece acarretar em deteriorações na capacidade de interocepção, colocando em questionamento a validade de um dos principais métodos de quantificação da carga interna, o método que utiliza a percepção subjetiva de esforço (PSE). Desse modo, o objetivo do presente estudo foi comparar os métodos de quantificação da carga interna que utilizam a frequência cardíaca (FC), considerado o padrão-ouro para o presente estudo, com o método que utiliza a PSE na população idosa. Quarenta idosos praticantes de ginástica aeróbia (A) ou musculação (M) foram avaliados durante uma sessão de exercícios físicos. A determinação da carga interna pela FC e pela PSE foram realizadas através dos métodos de Edwards e de Foster, respectivamente. Os valores de carga interna (expressos em unidades arbitrárias) calculados pelo método da FC e PSE foram 69,4 ± 40,0 e 151,5 ± 83,5 para o grupo M e 73,3 ± 37,1 e 134,7 ± 41,6 para o grupo A, respectivamente. O valor de carga interna para os dois grupos em conjunto foi de 71,3 ± 38,2 pelo método da FC e de 143,1 ± 65,7 pela PSE. A relação entre os métodos foi determinada usando-se o coeficiente de correlação de Pearson para todos os participantes em conjunto (T), assim como para os grupos M e A. As correlações encontradas foram de r = 0,33 (p < 0,05) para T, r = 0,37 (p = 0,11) para M e r = 0,32 (p = 0,17) para A. A moderada correlação obtida coloca em questão a utilização do método da PSE para a quantificação de carga interna...
