UNLABELLED: The aim of this study was to compare perceived barriers to and the most preferred age for successful transition to adult health care between young people with chronic disorders who had not yet transferred from pediatric to adult health care (pre-transfer) and those who had already transferred (post-transfer). In a cross-sectional study, we compared 283 pre-transfer with 89 post-transfer young people, using a 28-item questionnaire that focused on perceived barriers to transition and beliefs about the most preferred age to transfer. Feeling at ease with the pediatrician was the most important barrier to successful transition in both groups, but was rated significantly higher in the pre-transfer compared to the post-transfer group (OR = 2.03, 95 %CI 1.12-3.71). Anxiety and lack of information were the next most important barriers, rated equally highly by the two groups (OR = 0.67, 95 %CI 0.35-1.28 and OR = 0.71, 95 %CI 0.36-1.38, respectively). More than 80 % of the respondents in both groups reported that 16-19 years was the most preferred age to transfer; more than half of all the respondents reported 18-19 years and older as the most preferred age. CONCLUSION: Better transition planning through the provision of regular and more detailed information about adult health-care providers and the transition process could reduce anxiety and contribute to a more positive attitude to overcome perceived barriers to transition from young people's perspective. Young people's preferences about transferring to adult health care provide a challenge to those children's hospitals that transfer to adult health care at a younger age.

Le thème des adolescents abuseurs sexuels est ici abordé sous un angle à la fois anthropologique, historique, clinique, juridique, à l'initiative du Centre de ressources sur les auteurs de violences sexuelles (CRIAVS Centre). Dans les médias ainsi que dans les consultations, les adolescents auteurs de violence sexuelle sont de en plus nombreux. Ils viennent interroger les soignants dans leur clinique et leur pratique, à l'instar de la société qui a bien du mal à contenir l'émotion suscitée et à réagir au mieux en évitant la banalisation ou la précipitation. Cet ouvrage apporte des réponses sans simplification ni dogmatisme.

L'ouvrage propose, dans une perspective psychanalytique, une approche didactique de la pratique de l'épreuve de Rorschach auprès des enfants et des adolescents, dans la spécificité de l'engagement que cette pratique requiert, en mettant successivement l'accent sur : la place et les enjeux de la passation de l'épreuve dans le contexte de la consultation en psychologie clinique et en psychopathologie (en lien avec la pratique d'autres épreuves) ; les aspects méthodologiques qui président à la passation de l'épreuve et à la cotation des réponses ; le repérage et l'identification des problématiques qui concourent à l'interprétation de l'épreuve ; la mise en perspective des productions projectives en fonction de l'âge de l'enfant ou de l'adolescent ; la présentation et l'analyse de situations de consultation dans le champ de la clinique et de la psychopathologie de l'enfant et de l'adolescent. L'ensemble est largement illustré d'exemples de réponses et de protocoles d'enfants ou d'adolescents. BACKGROUND: Suffering from a chronic disease or disability (CDD) during adolescence can be a burden for both the adolescents and their parents. The aim of the present study is to assess how living with a CDD during adolescence, the quality of parent-adolescent relationship (PAR) and the adolescent's psychosocial development interact with each other. METHODS: Using the Swiss Multicenter Adolescent Survey on Health 2002 (SMASH02) database, we compared adolescents aged 16-20 years with a CDD (n = 760) with their healthy peers (n = 6493) on sociodemographics, adolescents' general and psychosocial health, interparental relationship and PAR. RESULTS: Bivariate analyses showed that adolescents with a CDD had a poorer psychosocial health and a more difficult relationship with their parents. The log-linear model indirectly linked CDD and poor PAR through four variables: two of the adolescents' psychosocial health variables (suicide attempt and sensation seeking), the need for help regarding difficulties with parents and a highly educated mother that acted as a protective factor, allowing for a better parent-adolescent with a CDD relationship. CONCLUSION: It is essential for health professionals taking care of adolescents with a CDD to distinguish between issues in relation with the CDD from other psychosocial difficulties, in order to help these adolescents and their parents deal with them appropriately and thus maintain a healthy PAR.

The period of adolescence is not only marked by important growth and pubertal events, but is also characterized by important psychosocial changes driven by a search for autonomy and the construction of one's identity. It can thus be easily understood that puberty disorders interfere heavily with these process, requiring from the endocrinologist not only medical knowledge, but also a great deal of emotional and psychological skills. They must progressively move from an educational approach that heavily involves the parents to one of shared information and decision making that places the young patient at the center of the therapeutic process. This can be achieved in several ways: respecting the affective and cognitive development of the adolescent; securing his privacy and (if requested by him) confidentiality; exploring his self-image and self-esteem and adapting the therapeutic process to the patient's expectations; reviewing the teenager's lifestyle, including the issue of sexuality and sexual behavior, and involving him in any therapeutic choice that has to be made, even if it does not match with the parents' expectations. The skills required for this respectful and holistic follow-up often exceed the abilities of any physician; it is thus suggested that a team approach involving a clinical nurse and/or a psychologist and/or social worker(s) be set up whenever possible.

L’obesitat infantil, és un dels problemes de salut pública més greus del segle XXI, on la prevalença ha augmentat de manera alarmant a nivell mundial. Aquesta es defineix com una malaltia crònica i multifactorial, que sol iniciar-se en la infantesa i a l’adolescència. L’objectiu principal d’aquest estudi és conèixer la prevalença de sobrepès i obesitat en la població adolescent de Girona, i relacionar amb aquesta, els hàbits alimentaris, els hàbits d’activitat física, l’entitat de l’institut-escola, hores de son i nivell màxim d’estudis dels progenitors. Material i mètodes: Estudi descriptiu, observacional i transversal sobre una mostra de la població adolescent de Girona de 14 a 16 anys (n=185), els quals se’ls va administrar un qüestionari on es van recollir les variables relacionades amb l’estudi. L’obesitat i el sobrepès es van definir com valors de l’índex de massa corporal iguals o superiors als valors dels percentils 97 i 85, respectivament, de les taules de referencia de la OMS de 2007. Resultats: La prevalença de sobrepès i d’obesitat en la població adolescent de Girona és del 20% i del 3,78%, respectivament. El sobrepès i l’obesitat (23,78%) ha afectat més al sexe masculí (27,7%) respecte el femení (19,8%). S’ha establert relació significativa entre la prevalença de sobrepès i obesitat amb el nivell màxim d’estudis dels progenitors. Hi ha més prevalença de sobrepès i obesitat a l’institut públic en vers el privat amb un 26,7% respecte el 18,5%. Conclusions: Segons la bibliografia consultada, la població adolescent de Girona presenta més elevada la prevalença de sobrepès però no pel que fa la prevalença d’obesitat

For decades researchers have been trying to build models that would help understand price performance in financial markets and, therefore, to be able to forecast future prices. However, any econometric approaches have notoriously failed in predicting extreme events in markets. At the end of 20th century, market specialists started to admit that the reasons for economy meltdowns may originate as much in rational actions of traders as in human psychology. The latter forces have been described as trading biases, also known as animal spirits. This study aims at expressing in mathematical form some of the basic trading biases as well as the idea of market momentum and, therefore, reconstructing the dynamics of prices in financial markets. It is proposed through a novel family of models originating in population and fluid dynamics, applied to an electricity spot price time series. The main goal of this work is to investigate via numerical solutions how well theequations succeed in reproducing the real market time series properties, especially those that seemingly contradict standard assumptions of neoclassical economic theory, in particular the Efficient Market Hypothesis. The results show that the proposed model is able to generate price realizations that closely reproduce the behaviour and statistics of the original electricity spot price. That is achieved in all price levels, from small and medium-range variations to price spikes. The latter were generated from price dynamics and market momentum, without superimposing jump processes in the model. In the light of the presented results, it seems that the latest assumptions about human psychology and market momentum ruling market dynamics may be true. Therefore, other commodity markets should be analyzed with this model as well.

The overall goal of this study was to explore and identify good aggression management methods and on that basis to produce recommendations for aggression management in the adolescent forensic setting. The study was conducted in three phases. In Phase I, staff’s (n = 58) perception of adolescent aggressive behaviour and methods to manage it was examined. In Phase II, staff’s (n = 30) perception of treatment settings and treatment interventions available were studied. In Phase III, the effectiveness of an aggression management programme was evaluated. The data were collected during the period 2004-2007. Participants perceived adolescent aggressive behaviour in a similar way and described aggressive behaviour as being a comprehensible phenomenon. Management methods used to control aggressive situations were alike, although the practical solutions varied between the study units, especially regarding coercive methods. Staff members proposed more time and better opportunities to discuss and evaluate the aggression situation in order to improve the methods used. The treatment settings were similar in studied forensic units and interventions were primarily focused on psychological aspects, including management of aggressive behavior. A comprehensive aggression management programme proved to be effective in decreasing incidents of violence. The use of coercive methods in aggression situations decreased and injuries to the staff became less frequent. If staff members intend to apply high quality management methods in aggression situations they have to share a consistent understanding of aggressive behaviour and need to be aware of the various methods available. In addition, they should learn more about assessment methods in order to improve aggression management. International comparison of aggression, methods for managing it and service provision creates a starting point for developing equal care provision and realization within and between European countries.
