O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar, através da análise de crescimento, os efeitos do plantio direto (PD) e do preparo convencional (PC) sobre o desenvolvimento de duas cultivares de feijoeiro (Phaseolus vulgaris L.), em dois espaçamentos diferentes, irrigadas via pivô central. O experimento foi conduzido no ano de 1994, em Senador Canedo, GO, a 16º 41' de latitude Sul, 49º 16' de longitude Oeste e 741 m de altitude. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado em parcelas subsubdivididas, com oito tratamentos. Para avaliação da área foliar e da produção de matéria seca total (MST), foram feitas dez coletas periódicas a cada sete dias, com três plantas ao acaso e duas repetições. A análise de crescimento evidenciou que no sistema PD o feijoeiro aumentou a MST, o índice de área foliar, a taxa de crescimento da cultura, a taxa de crescimento relativo, a taxa assimilatória líquida e a duração da área foliar, ocorrendo diminuição da razão de área foliar. A cultivar Aporé destacou-se em relação à Safira, sem efeito para espaçamento. A análise de crescimento apresentou-se adequada para avaliar o desenvolvimento do feijoeiro.

OBJETIVO: Relacionar a área de secção inicial do enxerto com o resultado da cirurgia de reconstrução do LCA. Foram operados oito cães, divididos em dois grupos, de acordo com o tamanho do enxerto: grupo A - 25% e grupo B - 40% da largura do ligamento patelar (LP). MÉTODOS: Após oito meses, os cães foram sacrificados para análise macroscópica e histológica dos ligamentos reconstruídos, utilizando-se o joelho contralateral do cão como controle. RESULTADOS: em ambos os grupos, todos os ligamentos reconstruídos apresentaram-se viáveis e hipertrofiados; o enxerto de LP teve sua morfologia alterada, verificada através da medida do crimp e da celularidade, assemelhando-se com a do LCA. CONCLUSÃO: A área de secção do enxerto não influenciou o resultado histológico da cirurgia de reconstrução do LCA em cães.

Este estudo consistiu na análise da dinâmica emocional das experiências afetivas de mulheres com alopecia areata, tendo como eixo as relações de afeto mantidas com os pais e em suas relações conjugais. Foram entrevistadas cinco pacientes, atendidas no Instituto Lauro de Souza Lima, com idade entre 22 e 53 anos. O estudo baseou-se no método clínico de investigação e os dados foram obtidos mediante entrevistas semi-estruturadas. Nos depoimentos foram apontadas experiências dolorosas da relação conjugal e do adoecimento, que foram associadas a vivências traumáticas na infância. As associações realizadas pelas mulheres entre suas experiências passadas, relações conjugais, adoecimento e o impacto da doença na vida atual confirmaram os achados da literatura, e os dados encontrados puderam ser interpretados à luz das contribuições psicanalíticas. Os resultados obtidos podem contribuir para o esclarecimento de aspectos dinâmicos relacionados à alopecia areata e a outras psicodermatoses, bem como favorecer intervenções interdisciplinares e psicoterápicas mais efetivas com pacientes dermatológicos crônicos.

Foram conduzidos dois ensaios de digestibilidade, objetivando-se estudar o valor nutricional de quatro diferentes milhetos (BN2, COMUM, IAPAR e IAPAR-REPASSE) processados em moinhos com três tipos de peneiras (diâmetros de furo de 3, 2 e 1 mm). Os coeficientes de digestibilidade (CD) da energia bruta (CDEB) e o coeficiente de metabolizabilidade (CM) da energia bruta (CMEB) relativos à peneira de 3 mm foram: 63,09 e 61,20% (COMUM); 71,57 e 69,66% (IAPAR) e 67,39 e 65,60% (BN2). Os CD e CM da energia do COMUM foram inferiores ao IAPAR e ambos foram semelhantes ao BN2. O IAPAR-REPASSE apresentou CDEB de 70,62% e CMEB de 68,49%, semelhante ao IAPAR. O IAPAR-1 mm apresentou maior CDEB e CMEB (84,61 e 81,41%) que o IAPAR-3 mm (70,59 e 68,71%) e o IAPAR-2 mm (77,73 e 75,46%). Os valores de energia digestível (ED) e energia metabolizável (EM) para o IAPAR (3 mm) foram de 3.030 kcal/kg e 3.001 kcal/kg, respectivamente. Verificou-se ED de 3.083 e 3.355 kcal/kg e em de 2.993 e 3.228 kcal/kg para o IAPAR (2 e 1 mm). O IAPAR-REPASSE apresentou valores de 2.849 kcal/kg (ED) e 2.763 kcal/kg (EM), enquanto o COMUM (3 e 2 mm), de 2.574 e 3.022 kcal/kg (ED) e 2.497 e 2.932 kcal/kg (EM), e o BN2 (3 e 2 mm), de 2.692 e 3.047 kcal/kg (ED) e 2.620 e 2.966 kcal/kg (EM). As diferentes variedades de milheto apresentaram variações em sua composição química que resultaram em diferenças no valor nutricional, sendo o milheto IAPAR o que apresentou melhor valor, seguido pelo BN2 e o COMUM.

This work intended to calculate the rentability of the guava culture Paluma cv. in Monte Alto region-SP, estimating the costs of the implantation, maintenance, production and the gross income of this culture in the first three years of cultivation. The production system utilized refers to the cultural treatments usually used in this culture in the region. The costs estimates were based on the total operational costs methodology used by the Agricultural Economics Institute (I.E.A.). The results obtained showed that the implantation and maintenance costs of the culture, in the two first years was R$7.402,3 l/alqueire*. Considering the possibility that in guava orchard, on irrigated conditions, reach in the fourthy year a productivity of 80t/alqueire and that the current price is R$0,20/kg, it is possible to estimate the gross income around of R$16.000,00/alqueire, resulting in a net income of R$9.497,06/alqueire.

Cefaclor is not reducible at a mercury electrode, but it can be determined polarographically and by cathodic stripping voltammetry as its initial alkaline degradation product which is obtained in high yield by hydrolysis of cefaclor in Britton-Robinson (B-R) buffer pH 10 at 50 degrees C for 30 min (reduction peak at pH 10, -0.70 V). Differential pulse polarographic calibration graphs are linear up to at least 1 x 10(-4) mol l(-1). Recoveries of 93% of the cefaclor (n = 3) were obtained from urine spiked with 38.6 mu g ml(-1) using this polarographic method with 1 ml urine made up to 10 ml with pH 10 buffer. Using cathodic stripping voltammetry and accumulating at a hanging mercury drop electrode at -0.2 V for 30 s, linear calibration graphs were obtained from 0.35 to 40 mu g ml(-1) cefaclor in B-R buffer pH 10. A relative standard deviation of 4.2% (eta = 5) was obtained, and the limit of detection was calculated to be 2.9 ng ml(-1). Direct determination of cefaclor in human urine (1 ml of urine was made up to 10 ml with pH 10 buffer) spiked to 0.39 mu g ml(-1) was made (recovery 98.6%). (C) 1999 Elsevier B.V. B.V. This study was aimed at testing the hypothesis that serotoninergic receptors in the locus coeruleus (LC) play a role in bacterial lipopolysaccharide-induced fever. To this end, 5-HT1A (WAY-100635; 3 mu g/100 nL) and 5-HT2A (ketanserin; 2 mu g/100 nL) antagonists were microinjected into the LC and body temperature was monitored by biotelemetry. Intra-LC microinjections of ketanserin or WAY-100635 caused no change in body temperature of euthermic animals. 5-HT2A antagonism abolished the first phase of the lipopolysaccharide-induced fever. Taken together, these results indicate that serotonin acting on 5-HT2A receptors in the LC mediates the first phase of the febrile response, whereas 5-HT1A receptors are not involved in the lipopolysaccharide-induced fever.

A constant-current stimulator for high-impedance loads using only low-cost standard high-voltage components Is presented. A voltage-regulator powers an oscillator built across the primary of a step-up transformer whose secondary supplies, after rectification, the high voltage to a switched current-mirror in the driving stage. Adjusting the regulated voltage controls the pulsed-current intensity. A prototype produces stimulus of amplitude and pulsewidth within 0 less than or equal to I-skin less than or equal to 20 mA and 50 mus less than or equal to T-pulse less than or equal to 1 ms, respectively. Pulse-repetition spans from 1 Hz to 10 Hz. Worst case ripple is 3.7% at I-skin = 1 mA. Overall consumption is 5.6 W at I-skin = 20 mA.

We investigated the possible potentiating effect of chloramphenicol succinate (30 mg/kg, every 12 h for 4 days, ip) on the response of polymorphonuclear neutrophils to carrageenin (150 mug, ip) or dextran (100 mug, ip) in the peritoneal cavity of male Wistar rats (180-230 g; N = 12 in each group).2. Chloramphenicol potentiated the cell migration induced by carrageenin (35%) but not that induced by dextran. Previous macrophage depletion in the peritoneal cavity by washing with sterile saline abolished the cell response, whereas a previous thioglycollate-induced increase in macrophage numbers enhanced the potentiating effect (60%).3. These results suggest that the potentiating effect on polymorphonuclear neutrophil migration induced by chloramphenicol may be related to chemotactic factors released by macrophages.

Liposarcus anisitsi is an armoured catfish that presents accessorial air oxygenation through a modified stomach, which allows this species to survive in waters with very low oxygen content. Analysis of its haemolysate has shown the presence of four haemoglobins; this work focuses on the main component, haemoglobin I. It has been crystallized in two different forms and X-ray diffraction data have been collected to 2.77 and 2.86 Angstrom resolution using synchrotron radiation. Crystals were determined to belong to the space groups C2 and P2(1) and preliminary structural analysis revealed the presence of one tetramer in the asymmetric unit in both crystal forms. The structure was determined using a standard molecular-replacement technique.

Objectives. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of mechanical cycling on the biaxial flexural strength of two densely sintered ceramic materials.Methods. Disc shaped zirconia (In-Ceram Zirconia) and high alumina (Procera AllCeram) ceramic specimens (diameter: 15 min and thickness: 1.2 mm) were fabricated according to the manufacturers' instructions. The specimens from each ceramic material (N = 40, n = 10/per group) were tested for flexural strength either with or without being subjected to mechanical cycling (20,000 cycles under 50 N load, immersion in distilled water at 37 degrees C) in a universal testing machine (1 mm/min). Data were statistically analyzed using two-way ANOVA and Tukey's test (alpha = 0.05).Results. High alumina ceramic specimens revealed significantly higher flexural strength values without and with mechanical cycling (647 +/- 48 and 630 +/- 143 MPa, respectively) than those of zirconia ceramic (497 +/- 35 and 458 +/- 53 MPa, respectively) (p < 0.05). Mechanical cycling for 20,000 times under 50 N decreased the flexural strength values for both high alumina andSignificance. High alumina ceramic revealed significantly higher mean flexural strength values than that of zirconia ceramic tested in this study either with or without mechanical cycling conditions. The compound di(mu,N-Seta2-2-quinoline-2-thiolate)-bis[(N,N-dimethylbenzylamine-C2,N)palladium(II)] was synthesized and studied by IR, NMR and X-ray diffraction: monoclinic, a = 20.138(3), b = 10.831(1), c = 14.973(2) angstrom, beta = 98.04(1)-degrees, Z = 4, space group P2(1)/c, R = 0.032. The compound is dimeric with the two [Pd(N,N-dimethylbenzylamine)]moieties being connected by the two vicinal bridging eta2-N,S-quinoline-2-thiolate anions in a square-planar coordination geometry for the palladium atoms.

A green ceramic tape micro-heat exchanger was developed using Low Temperature Co-fired Ceramics technology (LTCC). The device was designed by using Computational Aided Design software and simulations were made using a Computational Fluid Dynamics package (COMSOL Multiphysics) to evaluate the homogeneity of fluid distribution in the microchannels. Four geometries were proposed and simulated in two and three dimensions to show that geometric details directly affect the distribution of velocity in the micro-heat exchanger channels. The simulation results were quite useful for the design of the microfluidic device. The micro-heat exchanger was then constructed using the LTCC technology and is composed of five thermal exchange plates in cross-flow arrangement and two connecting plates, with all plates stacked to form a device with external dimensions of 26 x 26 x 6 mm(3).
