Expedient synthesis of (+)-trans-5-allylhexahydroindolizidin-3-one

Treatment of the bicyclic iminium ion derived from 5-methoxyhexahydroindolizidin-3-one with allyltrimethylsilane gave exclusively the diastereoisomer in which the allyl group was axial. Antitumor and immunomodulatory effects of the naphthoquinone 5-methoxy-3,4-dehydroxanthomegnin

Aspectos da produtividade do feij��o correlacionados com atributos f��sicos do solo sob elevado n��vel tecnol��gico de manejo

No ano agr��cola de 2006/07, no munic��pio de Selv��ria (MS), foi analisada a produtividade do feij��o em fun����o de alguns atributos f��sicos de um Latossolo Vermelho distrof��rrico, cultivado nas condi����es de elevado n��vel tecnol��gico de manejo pelo sistema plantio direto irrigado com piv�� central. O objetivo foi selecionar, entre os atributos pesquisados do solo, aquele com a melhor representatividade para explicar a variabilidade da produtividade agr��cola. Foi instalada a malha geoestat��stica, para a coleta de dados do solo e da planta, com 117 pontos amostrais, numa ��rea de 2.025 m�� e declive homog��neo de 0,055 m m-1. do ponto de vista linear e espacial, a produtividade de feij��o foi explicada em fun����o da densidade de part��culas e da umidade gravim��trica do solo, respectivamente. Assim, os valores de densidade de part��culas entre 1,95 e 2,20 kg dm-3 e de umidade gravim��trica entre 0,205 e 0,239 kg kg-1; ambas coletadas na camada intermedi��ria, resultaram em s��tios com as mais elevadas produtividades (2.200-2.600 kg ha-1). Entretanto, para as condi����es do elevado n��vel tecnol��gico de manejo empregado, a produtividade m��dia do feij��o n��o atingiu seu m��ximo potencial, uma vez que o agravado estado de compacta����o no qual o solo se encontrava proporcionou �� produtividade redu����o de 26,6 %. Dessa forma, os valores m��dios da densidade do solo e da resist��ncia do solo �� penetra����o, respectivamente nas faixas de 1,36-1,41 kg dm-3 e de 1,56-3,24 MPa, t��picos de solos argilosos compactados, atestaram a substancial queda da produtividade de gr��os de feij��o.

Phosphate closes the solution structure of the 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase (EPSPS) from Mycobacterium tuberculosis

The 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase catalyses the sixth step of the shikimate pathway that is responsible for synthesizing aromatic compounds and is absent in mammals, which makes it a potential target for drugs development against microbial diseases. Here, we report the phosphate binding effects at the structure of the 5-enolpyruvyl shikimate-3-phosphate synthase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis. This enzyme is formed by two similar domains that close on each other induced by ligand binding, showing the occurrence of a large conformation change. We have monitored the phosphate binding effects using analytical ultracentrifugation, small angle X-ray scattering and, circular dichroism techniques. The low resolution results showed that the enzyme in the presence of phosphate clearly presented a more compact structure. Thermal-induced unfolding experiments followed by circular dichroism suggested that phosphate rigidified the enzyme. Summarizing, these data suggested that the phosphate itself is able to induce conformational change resulting in the closure movement in the M. tuberculosis 5-enolpyruvylshikimate-3-phosphate synthase. Upconversion luminescence in Ho3+/Yb3+- and Tb3+/Yb3+-codoped fluorogermanate glass and glass ceramic

Energy-transfer excited upconversion luminescence in Ho3+/Yb3+- and Tb3+/Yb3+ -codoped PbGeO3-PbF2-CdF2 glass and glass-ceramic under infrared excitation is investigated. In Ho3+/Yb3+-codoped samples, green (545 nm), red (652 nm), and near-infrared (754 nm) upconversion emission corresponding to the S-5(2) (F-5(4)) -> I-5(8), F-5(5) -> I-5(8), and S-5(2)(F-5(4)) -> I-5(7) transitions, respectively, was observed. Blue (490 nm) emission assigned to the F-5(2,3) -> I-5(8) transition was also detected. In the Tb3+/Yb3+-codoped system, bright UV-visible emission around 384, 415, 438, 473-490, 545, 587, and 623 nm, identified as due to the D-5(3)((5)G(6)) -> F-7(J)(J = 6, 5, 4) and D-5(4) -> F-7(J)(J = 6, 5, 4, 3) transitions, was measured. The comparison of the upconversion process in glass ceramic and its glassy precursor revealed that the former samples present much higher upconversion efficiencies. The dependence of the upconversion emission upon pump power, and doping contents was also examined. The results indicated that successive energy-transfer between ytterbium and holmium ions and cooperative energy-transfer between ytterbium and terbium ions followed by excited-state absorption are the dominant upconversion excitation mechanisms herein involved. The viability of using the samples for three-dimensional solid-state color displays is also discussed. (c) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
