"Vox Populi, Vox Dei" - A Discussion of Dissent Within the Modern Catholic Church

The final question is: what happens in the meantime? Is it effective to dissent while conservatives hold power and clearty are not about to make any major changes? What good does it do to repeatedly bang one's head against the wall when progress is not being made? There is no one simple answer to this question, but rather several applicable ones. The first possible answer is that dissent currently does little good. The conservative hierarchy is still the dominant force within Catholicism. This hierarchy has made a habit, evidenced by the birth control debate, of pressing its conservative agenda despite popular opposition. Many people think, that if this hierarchy has not given in to the mass of opinion against it yet, dissent is futile and useless. Why argue with someone who does not listen to your argument?

Opening the Windows of the Church to the World: The Creation of Nostra Aetate and Its Impact on the Christian-Jewish relationship

It is important to assert that this study is not a work to inflict guilt on the Catholics or Catholicism for their silence and indifference during the Holocaust. Instead, this study is about the process of moving on from the Catholic Church's past to where the Jewish community's theological existence was finally recognized and the Jewish people were no longer seen as the Others who killed Christ. This was, achieved through a church declaration titled Nostra Aetate (In Our Time). This study records the journey traversed by this declaration, the insurmountable odds it faced in its creation until its promulgation and the impact it has on the Jewish-Christian relationship.

Governança corporativa em hospitais sem fins lucrativos: um estudo do perfil de liderança corporativa em onze hospitais brasileiros

O setor de saúde, nos últimos anos, tem passado por profundas transformações decorrentes de mudanças estruturais e limitações impostas por restrições de várias ordens.Estas, acentuam as pressões por rearranjos dos modelos de liderança nas organizações, que possibilitem novas formas de comando e responsabilidade por parte das estruturas de governança corporativa. O presente trabalho analisa os modelos de governança corporativa existentes em 11 organizações hospitalares sem fins lucrativos no Brasil, buscando qualificar as formas de organização de suas lideranças e analisar os principais mecanismos de exercício de poder e controle corporativo das organizações. Organizou-se a partir de uma metodologia qualitativa, baseada na busca dos sentidos presentes nos discursos das principais lideranças, e utilizou-se de levantamento de informações junto a documentos estatutários, entrevistas semi-estruturadas com as principais lideranças das organizações e visitas aos hospitais, em que atributos ligados ao comando e a estrutura de governança foram investigados. Subsidiariamente procura analisar as relações institucionais entre as instâncias de controle corporativo e de gestão operacional,caracterizar os modelos de regulação legal das atividades, identificar os mecanismos de representação social existentes, identificar a presença de sistemas profissionais de gestão dos hospitais e os principais mecanismos de comunicação e interação entre estes e a alta administração. Busca ainda analisar os papéis das principais profissões de saúde no contexto da governança corporativa, especialmente a representação médica .

Ações afirmativas como prática de inovação pedagógica : a experiência da escola da comunidade Quilombola Onze Negras, no Cabo de Santo Agostinho-PE

O presente estudo teve por objetivo verificar se a implementação das ações afirmativas que interferem favoravelmente no processo de aprendizagem e na construção da identidade das crianças e jovens da comunidade Quilombola Onze Negras, podem ser entendidas como instrumento de Inovação Pedagógica. Para isso, inicialmente, embasamos teoricamente este estudo através da compreensão do conceito de ações afirmativas, e realizamos um resgate histórico das lutas empreendidas pelos negros no Brasil, tendo por foco a formação das comunidades quilombolas e a identidade dos negros brasileiros. Na sequência, as incursões à comunidade em estudo, a observação das suas vivências e a realização de inquéritos e entrevistas, dentro e fora da escola, permitiram-nos permear as nossas reflexões acerca deste contexto. Assim, a base metodológica utilizada nesta investigação foi a etnopesquisa crítica de natureza descritivo-exploratória e de abordagem qualitativa, cujos instrumentos utilizados foram a observação participante, a entrevista semi estruturada e o questionário. Os dados recolhidos possibilitaram-nos descrever, interpretar, compreender e analisar as ações cotidianas de nossos atores em seu ambiente natural, e, deste modo, concluir que as ações afirmativas realizadas no seu interior e mais especificamente na escola da comunidade Onze Negras, proporcionando um fortalecimento da identidade negra, podem ser vistas como instrumento de inovação pedagógica.

This study is concerned with analyzing the letters sent by the devotees tothe religious patriarch, Father Cicero, checking as is the relationship of linguistic exchanges between the pilgrims and the Father Cicero through the issuance of letters; and, between the Church and the pilgrims, through homilies uttered these devotees, focusing on the appeals contained therein, for, then, to define a parameter between the requirements contained in the letters and the religious discourse of the Church workers in the liturgical celebrations in view of social and religious demands of the market in question. Our purposes resided in understanding the causes that lead to the production of the letters by devotees, holding us in prayers of intercession to the Father Cicero. Finally, check and understand how is the process of inter - relationship between the writing of devotee and the clerical discourse, with regard to meeting this demand, noting especially the game force a religious field, based on postulates of Pierre Bourdieu (2008), to conceive the communicative act as linguistic exchanges, surpassing the sign and therefore decipherable speech character as well as the interactive strength of the wording and voice advocated by Paul Zumthor (2010) e Bakhtin (2006). Etnobiologia do boto cinza (Sotalia guianensis, van Bénéden, 1864) por comunidades pesqueiras do Rio Grande do Norte, Basil

Ethnobiology studies Local Ecological Knowledge (LEK) as well as the use and management of natural resources by local communities in order to understand how the environment is perceived, known and classified by human groups. In fishing communities, LEK adds empirical information about the biology of aquatic species and complements scientific findings, especially when it is difficult to obtain factual information during studies on cetaceans, whose behavior is essentially underwater. Cetaceans (whales and dolphins) are constantly threatened by human activities, especially by accidental capture of small coastal species, as in the case of the estuarine dolphin (Sotalia guianensis), object of this study. Ethnobiological researches in fishing communities are of great importance and can clarify aspects of the biology and conservation of this species. Although extensively studied throughout its distribution range, there are still gaps in the knowledge about S. guianensis. Therefore, fishers local ecological knowledge becomes an additional tool to get and confirm information about S. guianensis. This study evaluated the LEK of artisanal fishers who are daily exposed to local population of S. guianensis, through the use of semistructured interviews (N=116). The interviewed fishers were asked about the biology and popular classification of S. guianensis and about possible interactions between this dolphin and them. The studied communities were located in Tibau do Sul (n=39), Pipa (n=36) and Baía Formosa (n=41), all on the south coast of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. The study was based on the assumption that differences in fishers LEK among those communities would be caused by both the variety of fishing environments (lagoon/estuary and ocean) and the intensity of tourism activities. Fishers knowledge is expressive and differed among the studied communities depending on the topic investigated. Fishers correctly reported the habitat, distribution, seasonality and behavioral particularities of S. guianensis. Tourism mainly affected the naming of the species. The study results also suggest that marine fishers have greater knowledge about the species than the estuarine/lagoon ones. Local populations accumulate empirical knowledge according to their environment. Hence, it is important to take into account both empirical knowledge and popular participation in management systems, in order to maintain information sharing among communities

The sewage sludge used for agricultural purposes provides many benefits to soil, but it contain harmful elements to environment, that infers in a great attention on its use. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effects of successive applications of sewage sludge on heavy metals accumulation (cadmium, chromium and lead) in samples of soils and corn plants, as well as evaluate the chemicals extractants efficiency in estimate the phyto disponibility of those elements. The experiment was conducted in randomized blocks design in the 2007/08 season, with 4 treatments (0, 5, 10 and 20 Mg ha-1 of sewage sludge) and 5 replicates. It was evaluated: the quantities available of Cd, Cr and Pb in soil by Melich-1, Melich-3 and DTPA extractants; the quantities extracted by corn plants; and the correlation between the disposition and quantities of those metals on whole plants, diagnosis leaves and corn grains. The application of sewage sludge for eleven consecutive years has not showed increase in total quantity nor availability of Cr, Cd and Pb in the evaluated soils. The extractor Melich-1 was the only one that showed significant correlation for availability of Cd, Cr and Pb in soil and corn plants. The correlation of metal availability in soil x leaf diagnosis was significant only for Pb with the Melich-3 and DTPA extractants

La palabra archivo tiene origen en el vocablo griego arkhê, en lo cual puede indicar comienzo y comando. Tal palabra puede ser usada para representar distintas ideas. Al ser considerada como un conjunto, puede reunir las informaciones existentes sobre un determinado asunto en cualquier área del conocimiento humano.(DERRIDA, 2001) Esas informaciones, por su vez, son constantemente modificadas por el repertorio de los usuarios de eses archivos. Cada individuo, al usar ese repertorio, lo hace de una manera diferente, pues las posibilidades son variadas. Entre estas, está la performance, que permite la elaboración de una transescritura, un modo de escribir que va más adelante del padrón convencional. Para que sea comprendida como tal, la escritura necesita realizar una transgresión, quebrar el canónico.(RAVETTI,2003) Adriana Falcão transgride, al consultar el archivo y reinventarlo a partir de su propio repertorio, llegando a realizar una transescritura.
