Two accelerometric records coming from the SAMSes es08 sensor in the Columbus module, the so-called Runs 14 and 33 in terms of the IVIDIL experiment, has been studied here using standard digital signal analysis techniques. The principal difference between both records is the vibrational state of IVIDIL, that is to say, during Run 14 the shacking motor of the experiment is active while that in Run 33 this motor is stopped. Identical procedures have been applied to a third record coming from the SAMSII 121f03 sensor located in the Destiny module during an IVIDIL quiescent period. All records have been downloaded from the corresponding public binary accelerometric files from the NASA Principal Investigator Microgravity Services, PIMS website and, in order to be properly compared, have the same number of data. Results detect clear differences in the accelerometric behavior, with or without shaking, despite the care of the designers to ensure the achievement of the ISS pg-vibrational requirements all along the experiments. El objetivo de la investigación fue analizar la cooperación internacional para la seguridad alimentaria en Suroeste y Oriente antioqueños, a través de la revisión del Convenio FAO-Gobernación de Antioquia, sus componentes y sus actividades, con el propósito de visualizar la cooperación internacional a nivel local. Estudio descriptivo cuali-cuantitativo con fuentes secundarias y primarias (entrevistas). La investigación fue autorizada por los gerentes de MANÁ y FAO, delegando en los coordinadores del convenio la entrega de la información. El investigador se desplazó a las oficinas de Medellín para su recolección. Una vez depurados los datos se procedió a elaborar las tablas para las dos subregiones estudiadas, analizar la información y presentarla en gráficos y tablas, complementando con las entrevistas semiestructuradas de los actores claves del convenio. Resultados: el convenio de cooperación internacional para la seguridad alimentaria se viene ejecutando de manera satisfactoria según los compromisos desarrollados en los componentes: emprendimiento de agricultura familiar se organizaron 16 asociaciones entre fincas; se establecieron 7.000 huertas de las oportunidades mediante procesos de capacitación y asesoría realizando para ello, 10.972 visitas y 1.483 talleres. Para el componente de plan de abastecimiento de alimentos lograron identificar los rubros pecuarios y de alimentos según la oferta y demanda local. Con el fortalecimiento institucional motivaron a las autoridades locales, familias y otras instituciones y utilizaron medios diferentes para informar los avances a 1.800 personas. Se concluye que la cooperación internacional ayuda a mejorar la seguridad alimentaria en Antioquia.

Individuals living in highly networked societies publish a large amount of personal, and potentially sensitive, information online. Web investigators can exploit such information for a variety of purposes, such as in background vetting and fraud detection. However, such investigations require a large number of expensive man hours and human effort. This paper describes InfoScout, a search tool which is intended to reduce the time it takes to identify and gather subject centric information on the Web. InfoScout collects relevance feedback information from the investigator in order to rerank search results, allowing the intended information to be discovered more quickly. Users may still direct their search as they see fit, issuing ad-hoc queries and filtering existing results by keywords. Design choices are informed by prior work and industry collaboration.

The generation of neurons from neural stem cells requires large-scale changes in gene expression that are controlled to a large extent by proneural transcription factors, such as Ascl1. While recent studies have characterized the differentiation genes activated by proneural factors, less is known on the mechanisms that suppress progenitor cell identity. Here, we show that Ascl1 induces the transcription factor MyT1 while promoting neuronal differentiation. We combined functional studies of MyT1 during neurogenesis with the characterization of its transcriptional program. MyT1 binding is associated with repression of gene transcription in neural progenitor cells. It promotes neuronal differentiation by counteracting the inhibitory activity of Notch signaling at multiple levels, targeting the Notch1 receptor and many of its downstream targets. These include regulators of the neural progenitor program, such as Hes1, Sox2, Id3, and Olig1. Thus, Ascl1 suppresses Notch signaling cell-autonomously via MyT1, coupling neuronal differentiation with repression of the progenitor fate.

A recently acknowledged morphological pathway to colorectal cancer originates from precursor polyps with a serrated appearance due to branching and folding of the colon epithelium. This serrated origin accounts for up to 30% of all colorectal tumors but these are heterogeneous regarding molecular characteristics and patient outcome. Here we review the current knowledge about the classification of this tumor subtype and its association with five key features: mutation status of the BRAF or KRAS genes, the CpG island methylation phenotype, microsatellite instability, immune cell infiltration, and overexpression of GTPase RAC1b. Subsequently, available therapeutic approaches for targeting these molecular characteristics are presented and critically discussed.

A utilização das Tecnologias da Informação e Comunicação na educação é incontornável na sociedade da comunicação e do conhecimento. E, é neste pressuposto que propomos abordar a sua utilização no domínio da Educação Especial. Tendo em conta a necessidade de proceder a uma prática educativa centrada no aluno e nas suas especificidades, pareceu-nos pertinente abordar a questão da construção e exploração de Recursos Educativos Digitais (RED) com alunos com Necessidades Educativas Especiais (NEE). Com este estudo procurámos compreender como a construção de RED contribui para o envolvimento na aprendizagem destes alunos. A partir desta finalidade, estabelecemos três objetivos gerais. (1) Desenvolver RED adaptados ao desenvolvimento cognitivo dos alunos, (2) envolver outros intervenientes educativos como os pais e outros professores de educação especial do agrupamento de escolas e (3) compreender como os RED contribuem para o desenvolvimento cognitivo e a autonomia dos alunos. Para alcançar os objetivos propostos, desenhámos um projeto de investigação que se baseia num estudo de casos múltiplos e realizado numa escola no distrito de Vila Real. Com estes alunos, foram construídos diversos RED, que procuraram ter em conta as suas características e as aprendizagens previstas nos seus Currículos Específicos Individuais. Nesta construção, foi utilizado o JClic, e neste processo os casos participaram de uma forma ativa. A resolução das atividades foi feita em situação de observação sistemática, com recurso a grelhas, em que se tiveram em conta aspetos como a autonomia, a motivação, a realização, a empatia, o tempo despendido e o número de tentativas. Os dados da observação menos sistemática deram origem a notas de campo que foram registadas no diário do investigador. Para triangular os dados provenientes das técnicas referidas, foi realizada ainda uma entrevista à docente de Educação Especial dos alunos estudados. As principais conclusões da nossa investigação revelam que o envolvimento dos casos na construção dos recursos foi extraordinariamente importante em termos motivacionais e na empatia. A observação sistemática permitiu-nos também demonstrar que a autonomia, a realização, o tempo despendido e o número de tentativas foram indicadores que revelaram melhorias ao longo das sessões de trabalho. Constatamos ainda, através da entrevista, que alguns dos ganhos decorrentes das tarefas propostas foram transferidos para outras situações, quer na escola quer em casa.

A compiled set of in situ data is important to evaluate the quality of ocean-colour satellite-data records. Here we describe the data compiled for the validation of the ocean-colour products from the ESA Ocean Colour Climate Change Initiative (OC-CCI). The data were acquired from several sources (MOBY, BOUSSOLE, AERONET-OC, SeaBASS, NOMAD, MERMAID, AMT, ICES, HOT, GeP&CO), span between 1997 and 2012, and have a global distribution. Observations of the following variables were compiled: spectral remote-sensing reflectances, concentrations of chlorophyll a, spectral inherent optical properties and spectral diffuse attenuation coefficients. The data were from multi-project archives acquired via the open internet services or from individual projects, acquired directly from data providers. Methodologies were implemented for homogenisation, quality control and merging of all data. No changes were made to the original data, other than averaging of observations that were close in time and space, elimination of some points after quality control and conversion to a standard format. The final result is a merged table designed for validation of satellite-derived ocean-colour products and available in text format. Metadata of each in situ measurement (original source, cruise or experiment, principal investigator) were preserved throughout the work and made available in the final table. Using all the data in a validation exercise increases the number of matchups and enhances the representativeness of different marine regimes. By making available the metadata, it is also possible to analyse each set of data separately. The compiled data are available at doi: 10.1594/PANGAEA.854832 (Valente et al., 2015).

L’isolement avec ou sans contention (IC) en milieu psychiatrique touche près d’un patient sur quatre au Québec (Dumais, Larue, Drapeau, Ménard, & Giguère-Allard, 2011). Il est pourtant largement documenté que cette pratique porte préjudice aux patients, aux infirmières et à l’organisation (Stewart, Van der Merwe, Bowers, Simpson, & Jones, 2010). Cette mesure posant un problème éthique fait l’objet de politiques visant à la restreindre, voire à l’éliminer. Les études sur l’expérience de l’isolement du patient de même que sur la perception des infirmières identifient le besoin d'un retour sur cet évènement. Plusieurs équipes de chercheurs proposent un retour post-isolement (REPI) intégrant à la fois l’équipe traitante, plus particulièrement les infirmières, et le patient comme intervention afin de diminuer l’incidence de l’IC. Le REPI vise l’échange émotionnel, l’analyse des étapes ayant mené à la prise de décision d’IC et la projection des interventions futures. Le but de cette étude était de développer, implanter et évaluer le REPI auprès des intervenants et des patients d’une unité de soins psychiatriques aigus afin d’améliorer leur expérience de soins. Les questions de recherche étaient : 1) Quel est le contexte d’implantation du REPI? 2) Quels sont les éléments facilitants et les obstacles à l’implantation du REPI selon les patients et les intervenants? 3) Quelle est la perception des patients et des intervenants des modalités et retombées du REPI?; et 4) L’implantation du REPI est-elle associée à une diminution de la prévalence et de la durée des épisodes d’IC? Cette étude de cas instrumentale (Stake, 1995, 2008) était ancrée dans une approche participative. Le cas était celui de l’unité de soins psychiatriques aigus pour premier épisode psychotique où a été implanté le REPI. En premier lieu, le développement du REPI a d’abord fait l’objet d’une documentation du contexte par une immersion dans le milieu (n=56 heures) et des entretiens individuels avec un échantillonnage de convenance (n=3 patients, n=14 intervenants). Un comité d’experts (l’étudiante-chercheuse, six infirmières du milieu et un patient partenaire) a par la suite développé le REPI qui comporte deux volets : avec le patient et en équipe. L’évaluation des retombées a été effectuée par des entretiens individuels (n= 3 patients, n= 12 intervenants) et l’examen de la prévalence et de la durée des IC six mois avant et après l’implantation du REPI. Les données qualitatives ont été examinées selon une analyse thématique (Miles, Huberman, & Saldana, 2014), tandis que les données quantitatives ont fait l’objet de tests descriptifs et non-paramétriques. Les résultats proposent que le contexte d’implantation est défini par des normes implicites et explicites où l’utilisation de l’IC peut générer un cercle vicieux de comportements agressifs nourris par un profond sentiment d’injustice de la part des patients. Ceux-ci ont l’impression qu’ils doivent se conformer aux attentes du personnel et aux règles de l’unité. Les participants ont exprimé le besoin de créer des opportunités pour une communication authentique qui pourrait avoir lieu lors du REPI, bien que sa pratique soit variable d’un intervenant à un autre. Les résultats suggèrent que le principal élément ayant facilité l’implantation du REPI est l’approche participative de l’étude, alors que les obstacles rencontrés relèvent surtout de la complexité de la mise en œuvre du REPI en équipe. Lors du REPI avec le patient, les infirmières ont pu explorer ses sentiments et son point de vue, ce qui a favorisé la reconstruction de la relation thérapeutique. Quant au REPI avec l’équipe de soins, il a été perçu comme une opportunité d’apprentissage, ce qui a permis d’ajuster le plan d’intervention des patients. Suite à l’implantation du REPI, les résultats ont d’ailleurs montré une réduction significative de l’utilisation de l’isolement et du temps passé en isolement. Les résultats de cette thèse soulignent la possibilité d’outrepasser le malaise initial perçu tant par le patient que par l’infirmière en systématisant le REPI. De plus, cette étude met l’accent sur le besoin d’une présence authentique pour atteindre un partage significatif dans la relation thérapeutique, ce qui est la pierre d’assise de la pratique infirmière en santé mentale. Cette étude contribue aux connaissances sur la prévention des comportements agressifs en milieu psychiatrique en documentant le contexte dans lequel se situe l’IC, en proposant un REPI comportant deux volets de REPI et en explorant ses retombées. Nos résultats soutiennent le potentiel du développement d’une prévention tertiaire qui intègre à la fois la perspective des patients et des intervenants.
