Las condiciones de reproducción de la unidad familiar campesina en la Catalunya Nova: las "Terres de Lleida"

El trabajo intenta evaluar la dimensión mínima de la tierra que debiera poseer la unidad familiar campesina para garantizar su reproducción en el marco histórico de la etapa final de la Edad Moderna. Geográficamente, el trabajo se refiere a las tierras del interior llano catalán, que experimentaron durante el siglo XVIII un notable proceso de colonización agraria para atender los déficits cerealísticos del litoral catalán. Dado que la mayor parte del campesinado no disfruta de explotaciones viables económicamente, se analizan las estrategias campesinas encaminadas a la obtención de ingresos complementarios. Estas, lejos de situarse en actividades no agrarias, tienen una estrecha relación con la agricultura y con el aprovechamiento de los recursos naturales.

The lower medieval Catalan model of the estudi general (university) exemplified by the case of Lleida emphasises the weight achieved by the students as a body, the jurisdictional conflicts and, especially, the serious economic difficulties, that poisoned the relations with the poorly paid teaching staff and made the centre impossible to run. In that sense, the monarchy’s incapacity to provide the jurisdictional and financial bases, pushed higher education under a growing ecclesiastical weight snd municipal dependence. The local government, for its part, would have to increase the means of taxation needed to produce the necessary financing. All together, this generated difficulties that would burden the estudis generals throughout the lower Middle ages and into modern centuries, until their closure in the 18th century.

El estudio de ciertos modelos negativos del teatro breve del siglo XVIII revela no sólo la continuidad cómica de los tipos, sino también su relación con los ideales de conducta coetáneos: la autoridad del marido, la discreción de la mujer, el cuidado de la economía familiar... Los sainetes se unen a otros géneros literarios (el periodismo, la poesía satírica y el ensayo de carácter moral) en la ridiculización de quienes practican el cortejo y aplauden nuevas formas de sociabilidad, las modas y los bailes extranjeros, etc. frente a la conducta y los gustos tradicionales. Ejemplos tomados de Antonio de Zamora, Agramont, Ramón de la Cruz, Vázquez y González del Castillo sirven para argumentar tales reticencias ante el cambio de mentalidades de una nueva cultura del ocio, así como para observarlo a contrario: su “afeminación”, su frivolidad y su inutilidad.

L'herbari Bernades a l'Institut Botanic de Barcelona

The Bernades herbarium in the Botanic Institute of Barcelona (BC).- The BC-Bernades herbarium is one of the oldest collections conserved in the Botanical Institute of Barcelona. It contains part of the field collections of Miquel Bernades i Mainader and Miquel Bernades i Clarís, doctors of medicine and botanists of Catalonian origin living in Madrid in the 18th century. The collection consists of 817 sheets, the complete list provided in the annexe. We also present information concerning the localities of certain specifi c recollections, the taxonomic groups and families, as well as a list of sheets of special interest. This list contains witness of cornfi eld weed now very rare or extinct in Iberian lands, such as Hymenocarpos circinatus (L.) Savi or Securigera securidaca (L.) Degen & Dörfl , and also some of the first witness known from Spain of introduced plants, such as Aster cordifolius L. or Bidens bipinnata L.

Matkapuhelimen näytön testaus massatuotannossa

Tässä diplomityössä perehdytään matkapuhelimen näytön testaamiseen massatuotannon eri vaiheissa. Pääasialliset keskittymisen kohteet ovat näytön ohjaamiseen tarvittava tasonmuunnin, sen suunnittelu ja toteutus sekä erilaiset näytöntarkastustekniikat. Samalla käydään läpi myös näyttöjen historiaa ja tulevaisuutta, sekä erilaisia konenäköjärjestelmiä. Työssä oli tavoitteena kehittää joustava ratkaisu nykyisten ja tulevien näyttöjen testaukseen ja ohjaamiseen. Tuloksena saatiin tehtävään sopiva tasonmuunnin ja ohjelmisto. Kehitetyt ratkaisut ovat myös helposti muunnettavissa tulevaisuuden tarpeisiin.

Cigarette et affiche publicitaire: histoire d'une liaison dangereuse durant les Trente Glorieuses

The advertising poster's main characteristic is the ability to convey a commercial message quickly and publicly thanks to its straightforward image and text. The young people, being the tobacco industry's principal target, are particularly exposed to these messages. This kind of advertisement becomes a mean of counterstroke as soon as the cigarette's harmfulness is acknowledged. Some of the cigarette industry's strategies can be revealed by the historical analysis of a 253 posters corpus selected among the main cigarette manufacturers in Switzerland at the time of the post-war economic boom. With the misuse of sport's theme, the overvaluation of the filter's efficiency, the use of a vocabulary that implies lightness and by erasing the image of smoke in its advertisement, the industry tries to reassure the smoker wrongly.

Aquest tipus de document notarial ens deixa, entre d'altres, testimoni de la cultura material; els objectes, estris, mobles, robes... que ens poden ajudar a entendre diferents usos i costums, així com altres aspectes relacionats amb les mentalitats.

Guillem Masó, mercader de Sant Joan de les Abadesses: bestiar, draps i crèdit en una vila monàstica al darrer quart del segle XIV

El present treball es fonamenta amb el contingut del llibre particular o extraordinari del mercader Guillem Masó, de Sant Joan de les Abadesses, actiu durant la segona meitat del segle XIV. La majoria d’assentaments que conté el volum fan referència a tractes de bestiar, amb la inclusió de diverses tipologies o variants en els contractes, des de la simple compravenda fins a comandes-parceria. L’activitat del mercader Masó, tanmateix, no se centra exclusivament en aquests negocis. S’intueix una diversificació de les seves activitats que es vinculen, fonamentalment, amb la producció i comercialització de draps de llana i de lli. El context social i econòmic de la vila de Sant Joan durant aquest període afavoreix la presència d’aquests empresaris tèxtils que, per a aconseguir els seus objectius, s’introdueixen en els ressorts del poder civil de la vila i en els dels gremis i confraries que regulen i controlen els processos de fabricació dels productes

An ominous suspicion arose in France in the second half of the 18th century, that household tin objects might be contaminated with arsenic. Charged with the task of studying and deciding the question, the chemists Pierre Bayen and Louis Charlard set up a comprehensive research project, which resulted in a book describing the whole enterprise. It is very gratifying to analyse this work today, for the many lights it sheds on the way chemistry was practised and reasoned at the time, and for the whiff of modernity we are presented with.
