O processo de bolonha na web semântica

O Processo de Bolonha, cujo propósito visa a construção de um Espaço Europeu do Ensino Superior, tem como um dos seus objectivos promover a mobilidade de estudantes. A adopção do Processo de Bolonha requer uma abordagem que agilize a mobilidade dos estudantes, à luz da legislação actualmente em vigor. Neste âmbito, destaca-se a interoperabilidade entre sistemas de gestão académica na área de investigação da Web Semântica. Esta dissertação propõe um modelo de representação flexível que integra conhecimento sobre o estudante e sobre os cursos que frequentou ou pretende frequentar: (1) Registo Académico do estudante relativo a competências adquiridas designadamente no decorrer de uma qualificação, frequência de unidades curriculares, experiência profissional ou formação pós-secundária e (2) Plano Individual de Estudos que posiciona o estudante no contexto de um determinado (3) Plano de Curso que define a estrutura curricular e plano de estudos que o estudante pretende frequentar. O modelo de representação proposto foi alvo de avaliação experimental. Para tal, foi concebido um demonstrador que aplicou o modelo proposto em quatro cenários de utilização relativos à mobilidade de estudantes no âmbito do Processo de Bolonha.

Environmental sustainability in superior education: case study of Lisbon College of Health Technology

Over the centuries there has been a growing trend of societies and it is possible to verify their economic growth. This growth has provided an increased pressure on natural resources, often over-reaching the boundaries of each country, which has called into question the level of environmental sustainability in different countries. Sustainability is understood as a complex concept involving ecological, social, economic dimensions and temporal urban processes. Therefore, Firmino (2009) suggests that the ecological footprint (EF) allows people to establish dependency relations between human activities and the natural resources required for such activities and for the absorption of waste generated. According to Bergh & Verbruggen (1999) the EF is an objective, impartial and one-dimensional indicator that enables people to assess the sustainability. The Superior Schools have a crucial role in building the vision of a sustainable future as a reality, because in transmitting values and environmental principles to his students, are providing that they, in exercising his professional activity, make decisions weighing the environmental values. This ensures improved quality of life. The present study aims to determine the level of environmental sustainability of the Academic Community of Lisbon College of Health Technology (ESTeSL), by calculating the EF, and describe whether a relation between Footprint and various socio-demographic characteristics of the subjects.

Developing multiple - choice questions in mathematics

In this paper we wish to illustrate different perspectives used to create Multiple-Choice questions and we will show how we can improve these in the construction of math tests. As it is known, web technologies have a great influence on student’s behaviour. Based on an on-line project beginning at 2007 which has been contributing to help students on their individual work, we would like to share our experience and thoughts with colleagues who have a common concern when they have the task of constructing Multiple-Choice tests. We feel that Multiple-Choice tests play an important and a very useful supporting role in selfevaluation or self-examination of our students. Nonetheless, good Multiple–Choice Test Items are generally more complex and time-consuming to create than other types of tests. It requires a certain amount of skill. However, this skill maybe increases through study, practice and experience. This paper discusses a number of issues related to the use of Multiple-Choice questions, lists the advantages and disadvantages of this question format contrasting it with open questions. Some examples are given in this context.

Estudo preliminar para a avaliação da acessibilidade de um sítio Web

O avanço e difusão da tecnologia, em particular da Internet, obrigaram à disponibilização de informação com qualidade e facilmente acessível. Tais exigências vêm confirmar a relevância do papel da interface como elemento principal na interacção do utilizador com os sistemas de informação. É, por isso, fundamental que a interface seja fácil de usar e que vá ao encontro das expectativas e necessidades de todos os utilizadores. O desenvolvimento de interfaces que satisfaçam utilizadores com necessidades distintas, independentemente das suas capacidades motoras e perceptivas, culturais e sociais não é uma tarefa que possa se considerada simples [1]. De acordo com vários especialistas em Interacção Homem-Computador, [1], [2] e [3] as interfaces devem ser construídas respeitando os princípios de desenho centrado no utilizador, visando um elevado grau de usabilidade e em conformidade com directrizes de acessibilidade básicas. Este trabalho apresenta uma metodologia para avaliação da acessibilidade de um sítio Web, baseado num documento disponibilizado pela Web Accessibility Initiative, WAI, [4], a ser aplicada à secretaria on-line de uma escola do ensino superior.

Desenvolvimento de uma ferramenta colaborativa na área da gestão da informação/conhecimento para aplicação numa unidade de cuidados na comunidade

O presente projeto surgiu da necessidade de um instrumento de trabalho na área da gestão da informação / conhecimento a aplicar na Unidade de Cuidados na Comunidade dos Carvalhos (UCCC) que, pela sua estrutura de trabalho por projeto, abrange diversos grupos de utilizadores com perfis e necessidades específicas. Rapidamente assumiu maior dimensão, pois ao seu ponto de partida se conjugaram as oportunidades de utilização das tecnologias de informação na área da saúde, a divulgação da Unidade assim como a divulgação de informação sobre saúde e a interação com os utilizadores. O processo implicou a aplicação das metodologias de Investigação Ação e de Gestão de Projetos, resultando na criação e publicação de um espaço Web. Com o Content Management System (CMS) Joomla foi construído o Site UCC Carvalhos, que faculta simultaneamente informação sobre saúde, oportunidade de aconselhamento especializado e personalizado e permite a organização da documentação interna da Unidade referida. Nesta fase de início de vida do site estabeleceu-se como temáticas prioritárias a desenvolver a informação sobre a UCCC e o seu funcionamento assim como o projeto “Companhia das Barriguinhas”, mais concretamente a Preparação para o Parto e Parentalidade. O desenvolvimento deste projeto superou as expectativas de todos os elementos envolvidos, pois para além de permitir obter resposta às necessidades identificadas, permitiu também experimentar as metodologias referidas de forma integrada e aprofundar temáticas como a gestão da informação e conhecimento, o papel das tecnologias de informação e comunicação na Saúde e o papel do cidadão na utilização das mesmas no sentido de uma autonomia responsável na gestão da sua Saúde.

Answer: plataforma em C++ para o desenvolvimento de serviços web

Analisando as tendências actuais de mercado, observa-se a necessidade da capacidade de integração de sistemas recorrendo à utilização de serviços web. Actualmente o C++ é ainda uma das mais populares linguagens de programação, facto justificado pelo abundante portefólio de aplicações, desde alto-nível a sistemas embebidos, com inúmeras bibliotecas que tiram partido dos diversos paradigmas de programação que a linguagem suporta. Porém, e ao contrário de outras linguagens, como C# ou Java que oferecem suporte à criação de serviços web integrado com a plataforma, existe uma lacuna no suporte ao desenvolvimento de serviços web em C++. Para dar resposta à lacuna existente é criada a plataforma ANSWER, focada em C++, com ênfase num modelo de programação simples, permitindo o rápido desenvolvimento de serviços web RPC/SOAP e REST.

TINSEL – a web-based intelligent tutoring system on electrical installation design

This paper presents a project consisting on the development of an Intelligent Tutoring System, for training and support concerning the development of electrical installation projects to be used by electrical engineers, technicians and students. One of the major goals of this project is to devise a teaching model based on Intelligent Tutoring techniques, considering not only academic knowledge but also other types of more empirical knowledge, able to achieve successfully the training of electrical installation design.

Information and communication technologies in education – a web-based intelligent tutoring system on teaching and learning electrical project

Electrical activity is extremely broad and distinct, requiring by one hand, a deep knowledge on rules, regulations, materials, equipments, technical solutions and technologies and assistance in several areas, as electrical equipment, telecommunications, security and efficiency and rational use of energy, on the other hand, also requires other skills, depending on the specific projects to be implemented, being this knowledge a characteristic that belongs to the professionals with relevant experience, in terms of complexity and specific projects that were made.
