The main objective of this work is to describe conceptions and practices of evaluation observed at a private language school. The theoretical background was gathered from Demo (2002a, 2002b), Luckesi (2001), Romão (2001), Shohamy (2001), Hughes (1994) and Depresbiteris (1989). Regarding the data collected, we made use of questionnaires, interviews, group discussions and diaries. Results show that the topics “fear of test” and “test content” were the most frequent ones. Furthermore, there was a harmonious relationship between teacher and students when tests were applied. We observed a “non-verbal agreement” between them, that is, there was a minimum content to be studied and to be asked on a test. We also noticed that classroom activities had a more complex level than the content actually tested.

Crenças sobre compreensão oral em língua estrangeira de alunos concluintes de um curso de Licenciatura em Letras

In this article we present and discuss a number of beliefs about listening comprehension among students who were in their last year of a teachers’ certification Letters course in Italian and Portuguese. The data were collected by means of questionnaires answered by all the participating students, logs and interviews conducted with five of the participating students, classroom observation, lessons recorded on audio and video, and diaries. The study is supported by a rationale on beliefs and on definitions of listening comprehension as a skill. The analysis indicate that a number of students showed lack of motivation and low expectations about developing oral comprehension skills due to several drawbacks in foreign language learning during their teacher education course. However, other beliefs that emerged from the data, such as the importance of visual aids to help understanding an oral text, seem to have a positive effect towards a satisfactory proficiency level in oral comprehension.

The phenomenon of the World Wide Web, the Internet, has revolutionized the way we live in a contemporary relevance. The relationships among people have changed since the media also changed: the cyberspace has been established as an important vehicle of communication in which different languages, cultures and peoples coexist. Within the virtual space there are several fica possibilities for communication, interaction, fun, knowledge etc. Everything happens extremely quickly. An interesting example of that are blogs that, to survive virtuality, require constant updating. It has become interesting to notice the factor of personal expressiveness taking a new shape in the context of network, before being seen in elements such as diaries, poetry, artistic production or debate. The chances and, thus, the need to find people to interact and to share interests has taken a gigantic proportion, and, in this way, sources of audiovisual and reading activities are always in vogue, being shared every second. Blogging can be about different subjects, but what is perceived on all blogs is the strong trace of written text is always presented. Twitter has established itself as a microblogging network for the expression of dynamism, information sharing and interaction. Thus, it was interesting to approach the manner language is expressed in these microblogs thinking about the way that literary discourse is constructed when is seen, on quotations, in the context of this social network: Twitter. Being able to attest the great increase on the occurrences of quotes from different literary genres, it was useful to pay attention to this fact. In Brazil, Twitter has thousands of users, fans and readers, that rewrite and quote authors. As atividades circenses e a formação continuada de professores: análise de um processo

Circus activities have formed over the years as an important content to be exploited by the teachers in the school environment, and current projections, the inclusion of circus activities in physical education classes has been presented and defended by several authors. That being so, the objective was to offer a continuing education program thematising circus activities having as research focused on the analysis of this training process, as well as their implications, contributions, opportunities and challenges for teacher pedagogical practice. The research, qualitative, was developed in two phases: a questionnaire for physical education teachers working in public schools in order to highlight the reasons for the absence of most of the teachers in the training program. The second phase included the development of the continuing education program content circus activities in the continuing education of physical education teachers, the two teachers in the school environment, as well as analysis and reflection of teacher participation in the training program, described in daily class and daily meetings ending this step with a final interview. Participated in the study, 13 physical education teachers of the municipal school system of a city of São Paulo, of which only two teachers participated in the development of the training program in schools. The teachers manifestations through the questionnaire and participation in the training program showed that teachers make themselves available to participate in continuing education programs, however, the priorities of each teacher (such as family, leisure or other chores) can demarcate difficulties in establishing common to all teachers moments, preventing the effective participation of teachers within the continuing education programs. On the other hand, the school is set up as a rich space of experiences and exchanges of experience, contributing to the development of continuing education programs

Efeito da escovação dentária no manchamento de braquetes estéticos cerâmicos

Objective: this study aimed to analyze the in vitro effect of brushing on the color stability of ceramic brackets immersed in dye solutions. Materials and Methods: seven ceramic brackets of four commercial brands were tested: two monocrystalline and two polycrystalline. The parameters of color were obtained by spectrophotometer before and after 21 days of immersion of the brackets in coffee, red wine, Coca-Cola, black tea and artificial saliva. Another group of brackets of each brand were also immersed in the same solutions and for an equal time to the previous group, but with intervals of daily brushing performed by a toothbrushing machine (Mavtec). The data were evaluated by analysis of variance, multiple comparison tests for means and Student's t-test. Results: the mean color change of the brackets without brushing ranged from 0.46 to 7.61, while in the group with brushing these means ranged from 0.36 to 2.50. The staining still remained noticeable (change of color greater than 3.7) for all brackets when immersed in black tea. Conclusion: daily brushing helped significantly in the color stability of ceramic brackets, maintaining the color change to levels considered not visible to the human eye, except for the solution of black tea in which the staining remained relevant.

Microhardness of the enamel exposed to whitening dentifrices

The purpose of this study is to verify the effect of three different types of dentifrices on the superficial microhardness of bovine enamel. Methods: Forty-eight 4x4mm dental fragments were polished and randomly divided into 4 groups: GI, conventional silica-based dentifrice; GII, hydrogen peroxide-based dentifrice; GIII, carbamide peroxide-based dentifrice; and GIV, immersion in artificial saliva. After polished, the specimens received five indentations of 25g static load, for 5 seconds. Subsequently, specimens from groups GI, GII and GIII were immersed in solution containing dentifrice and distilled water, in weight proportion of 1:2, for 15 minutes daily. After this period, fragments were rinsed in tap water and stored in artificial saliva at 37oC. This procedure was repeated for 21 days and then a new analysis of the microhardness was performed. Results and conclusion: The results were submitted to ANOVA and Fisher’s test at 5%. It was concluded that all samples treated with dentifrices showed hardness decrease, being most pronounced in dentifrices containing peroxide.
