This work presents a study about the use of standards and directions on parallel programming in distributed systems, using the MPI standard and PETSc toolkit, performing an analysis of their performances over certain mathematic operations involving matrices. The concepts are used to develop applications to solve problems involving Principal Components Analysis (PCA), which are executed in a Beowulf cluster. The results are compared to the ones of an analogous application with sequencial execution, and then it is analized if there was any performance boost on the parallel application

Mapeamento geológico-geotécnico na rodovia Amparo - Morungaba (SP - 360)

The work depicts the study of geological and geotechnical characteristics presents, together with an analysis of the physical environment components and evaluation of its units, along a marginal stretch at Rodovia Amparo-Morungaba (SP-360) in order to present a geological and geotechnical map, 1:25.000 scale (one of the objectives of the work). There was also a geotechnical assessment of the present geological processes and the development of corrective measures necessary to establish safe conditions for road traffic. The method for the characterization of geological and geotechnical analysis was integrated the physical components associated with photo interpretation (another objective of this work) based on Google Earth´s air images along the referred highway. In addition, field studies were made that helped in the distribution and compartmentalization of the six geological and geotechnical units and profiles of each specific alteration were also made. The finals results present the above mentioned map, a detailed description of each of the six units and a a geotechnical assessment of the present geological processes and the development of corrective measures necessary to establish safe conditions for road traffic. Brazilian wines are appreciated by consumers for having fruity odor and taste which are typical from Vitis labrusca cultivars. The rusticity of these cultivars, the winemaking and the physicochemical properties are some of the key factors to obtain a quality beverage. In this context, the aim of this article was to analyze the quality of three white wines from wineries located in northwest region of São Paulo state by determining physicochemical properties and sensory profile. Data were analyzed by statistical tests and by Principal Component Analysis (PCA). It was possible to observe statistical differences (P<0,05) in most physicochemical properties. Furthermore, the PCA showed that the attributes body and color significantly explained the variance of the first and second component, respectively, higlighting the Vitis vinifera wine. Thus the connection between the physicochemical and sensory properties of white wines was important for characterization of these beverages produced in the northwest of São Paulo.
