Currently, applications for smartphones and tablets, called apps, are becoming increasingly relevant and attract more attention from users and finally the developers. With the Application Stores, services provided by the company that maintains the platform, access to such applications is as or more simplified than to web sites, with the advantage of anenhanced user experience and focused on the mobile device, and enjoy natives resources as camera, audio, storage, integration with other applications, etc. They present a great opportunity for independent developers, who can now develop an application and make it availabl e to all users of that platform, at free or at a cost that is usually low. Even students may create their applications in the intervals of their classes and sell them in stores. Making use of tools and services, free or at low cost, anyone can develop quality applications, that can be marketed and have a large number of users even in adverse situations in which the application is not the focus of developer productivity. However, such to ols do not seem to be well used, or are unknown, or its purpose is not considered important, and this paper tries to show the real importance of these tools in the rapid development of quality software. This project presents several tools, services and practices, which together make it possible to develop an application for various mobile platforms, independently and with a team of a few people, as demonstrated. However, this paper aims not to say that the development of software today it is easy and simple, but there are currently a large set of tools, for various platforms, that assists and enhances the work of the programmer

A escolha da profissão docente: perfil dos alunos do curso de Pedagogia da UNESP/Bauru no ano de 2011

Several aspects interfere when it comes to choose a career. Some of which are family and cultural influence; and even lack of opportunities. Such aspects were greatly taken into consideration for defining the subject of this research which is to analyze the reasoning Pedagogy students from UNESP (Universidade Estadual Paulista – University of São Paulo State) used when choosing their academic career, and to assess the students’ profile who were taking this course in 2011 as well as the influence of students’ socioeconomic conditions. An empiric approach with a qualitative survey was chosen to develop this research which was conducted with a questionnaire appliance and with a semi-structured interview with randomly selected students. A theoretical study about the specifics of the academic career and a fully comprehension of the legal / regulatory aspects of this profession in Brazil were also conducted. The survey results showed that most students were women, supporting the fact that this career has become a female profession. Characteristics such as vocation and mission, presented on literatures as the specifics of this profession were clearly seen in the survey results. Several students went to public schools and are labeled into the classes C and D in social economical status; furthermore almost 50% had not chosen Pedagogy as a first choice for a major. However, most of the students do not think that their social economical status had influence in their choice. Nevertheless some students claimed that their options were not their first wish and their choice was made by the easier possibility of entering and concluding the course besides the prompt need of these professionals after graduating in the job market. Interview with Anthony DiGiorgio

In his interview with Daniel Lee, Anthony DiGiorgio recollects the impact Hurricane Hugo had on Winthrop University and the Rock Hill Community. DiGiorgio discusses weather reports leading up to the hurricane, his personal experience with the storm, and the aftermath of Hugo on campus. DiGiorgio shares the ways in which Winthrop University assisted the community and its faculty and staff. This interview was conducted for inclusion into the Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections Oral History Program.

Interview with Arnetta Gladden Mackey

In her two interviews with Martha Williams on August 1975 and Steve McKnight on April 30, 1981, Arnetta Gladden Mackey shares her experience coming to Winthrop as one of the first black students after the school integrated. Mackey recalls the reaction she received from students, faculty, and members of the Rock Hill community. Mackey finally lends her answer to the question of whether or not she would do it all over again.
