This paper departs from this point to consider whether and how crisis thinking contributes to practices of affirmative critique and transformative social action in late-capitalist societies. I argue that different deployments of crisis thinking have different affect-effects and consequences for ethical and political practice. Some work to mobilize political action through articulating a politics of fear, assuming that people take most responsibility for the future when they fear the alternatives. Other forms of crisis thinking work to heighten critical awareness by disrupting existential certainty, asserting an ethics of ambiguity which assumes that the continuous production of uncertain futures is a fundamental part of the human condition (de Beauvoir, 2000). In this paper, I hope to illustrate that the first deployment of crisis thinking can easily justify the closing down of political debate, discouraging radical experimentation and critique for the sake of resolving problems in a timely and decisive way. The second approach to crisis thinking, on the other hand, has greater potential to enable intellectual and political alterity in everyday lifebut one that poses considerable challenges for our understandings of and responses to climate change...

What does care mean in contemporary society? How are caring relationships practised in different contexts? What resources do individuals and collectives draw upon in order to care for, care with and care about themselves and others? How do such relationships and practices relate to broader social processes? Care shapes peoples everyday lives and relationships and caring relations and practices influence the economies of different societies. This interdisciplinary book takes a nuanced and context-sensitive approach to exploring caring relationships, identities and practices within and across a variety of cultural, familial, geographical and institutional arenas. Grounded in rich empirical research and discussing key theoretical, policy and practice debates, it provides important, yet often neglected, international and cross-cultural perspectives. It is divided into four sections covering: caring within educational institutions; caring amongst communities and networks; caring and families; and caring across the life-course. Contributing to broader theoretical, philosophical and moral debates associated with the ethics of care, citizenship, justice, relationality and entanglements of power, Critical Approaches to Care is an important work for students and academics studying caring and care work in the fields of health and social care, sociology, social policy, anthropology, education, human geography and politics.

This paper is about care, insider positions and mothering within feminist research. We ask questions about how honest, ethical and caring can we really be in placing the self into the research process as mothers ourselves. Should we leave out aspects of the research that do not fit neatly and how ethical can we claim to be if we do? Moreover, should difficult differences, secrets and silences that emerge from the research process and research stories that might 'out' us as failures be excluded from research outcomes so as to claim legitimate research? We consider the use of a feminist methods as crucial in the reciprocal and relational understanding of personal enquiry. Mothers invest significant emotional capital in their families and we explore the blurring of the interpersonal and intrapersonal when sharing mothering experiences common to both participant and researcher. Indeed participants can identify themselves within the process as 'friends' of the researcher. We both have familiarity within our respective research that has led to mutual understanding of having insider positions. Crucially individuals' realities are a vital component of the qualitative paradigm and that 'insider' research remains a necessary, albeit messy vehicle in social research. As it is we consider a growing body of literature which marks out and endorses a feminist ethics of care. All of which critique established ways of thinking about ethics, morality, security, citizenship and care. It provides alternatives in mapping private and public aspects of social life as it operates at a theoretical level, but importantly for this paper also at the level of practical application.

Jaques Lacan, the thinker who proposes a return to the fundamentals of psychoanalysis in Freud states that the math would face as a privileged way of transmission of knowledge by the science. Although he was a follower of the mathematization of nature as the foundation of modern science, for him this principle does not imply eliminating the subject that produces it. That would be equivalent to saying that there can not be a language, whatever, even the math, that may "erases" the subject assumption in science. In the text The science and the truth we will try to introduce the idea, not so simple, by the way, the truth as the cause. Citing the framework of the causes in Aristotle, Lacan will speak of a homology between the truth as formal cause, in the case of science, and the truth as material cause, on the side of psychoanalysis. Among its aims with this text, he wants to establish that the unconscious of the subject would be none other than the subject of science. The famous incompleteness theorems of logical-mathematical Kurt Gdel enter here as a chapter of this issue. Recognized as true watershed, these theorems have to be remembered as revealing even outside the mathematical environment, and Lacan himself is not indifferent to this. He makes mention of Gdel's name and draws some observations apparently modest support for his own theory. Since some technical sophisticated knowledges awaits the reader who intends understand this supposed corroboration that Gdel provides to psychoanalysis, introduce the student of Lacan in the use he makes of the incompleteness theorems is the objective of this work. In The science and the truth, which fits us to locate the name of Gdel, one must question how seize such an idea without incurring the extrapolation and abuse of mathematical knowledge, almost trivial in this case. Thus, this paper aims to introduce the reader to the reasoning behind the theorems of Gdel, acquaint him about the Lacans mathematical claims, and indicate how to proceed using this implicit math in the text The science and the truth.

This dissertation aims at showing the importance of the Nietzsche s and Spinoza s philosophy in Deleuze thought, about body, force, and potency concepts. The search starts from Deleuze texts around two authors of his inspiration, reaching understand in the plan of immanence of the relationship between concepts and the way life as ethics and political affirmation. The first goal is the concept of rhizome; propose by Deleuze in what manner to walk the ways traced by philosophers and at the same time to create self ways. The second chapter examines the body in Nietzsche as force s relations. Find to show the genesis of the force in its determination as relative quantity strong or weak, and as absolute quality active or reactive; and for other side the genesis of the force from two poles of the will to power affirmation or negation, examining the consequences for life and thought. In the third chapter explained the definitions of body in Spinoza. The body, in Spinoza, defines itself complex relation of movement and repose, velocity and slowness and by it s to affect and be affecter s power. Find to show understanding the mediums for to amplify the power of to exist or the potency of to act, in what manner ethics of to live. The fourth chapter makes one parallel between the war and the thought in the constitution of socials body and collectives agenciamientos, for understand in the fifth chapter the body as war s machine of the thought, from the relationship between nomad way life and war s machine showed in Tractate of Nomadologia. A expanso das redes sociais virtuais, o aperfeioamento das tcnicas de informao, a penetrabilidade do capitalismo de concorrncia e o fragmentado sujeito ps-moderno constituem, ao lado da sociedade de consumo, os pilares desta tese. Nossa hiptese central que as redes sociais da Internet ampliam os espaos de participao, compartilhamento, colaborao e manifestao das decepes do consumidor, mas no diminuem as descontinuidades, a incompreenso e o desrespeito oriundos das relaes e prticas de consumo, podendo, muitas vezes, aceleraremasconflitualidades. A abertura para o dilogo, o incitamento tomada de poder do sujeito e a multiplicao das trocas entre empresas e consumidores representam a oportunidade e o desafio de valorizarmos a concepo normativa da comunicao, admitindo as dificuldades da intercompreenso, a urgncia da coabitao e a realidade da incomunicao. Recorremos Anlise de Discurso de tradio francesa (AD) como campo terico-metodolgico para analisar o discurso do consumidor inscrito na plataforma Reclame AQUI e construir uma crtica comunicao corporativa contempornea; a partir dos conceitos de cenografia, ethos e esquematizao enunciativa, verificamos como a ideologia opera no interior das cenas daenunciao do consumo, constituindo uma ordem prpria ao discurso do reclamante decepcionado. Esta anlise ratificou as discusses tericas que levamos a cabo, servindo de suporte para a problematizao e o debate das sete cenografias que se evidenciaram no/pelo discurso do sujeito/consumidor: respeito/desrespeito, ameaa, promessa e frustrao, mau atendimento e problema no resolvido, negociao, clientes novos x antigos e consumidor enganado; a imbricao do nosso corpuse o arcabouo terico coloca na ribalta a necessidade de polticas de comunicao organizacional norteadas pelo senso prtico de outridade, transcendendo as relaes puramente mercadolgicas; ao mesmo tempo, lana luz sobre apremncia de mais solidariedade, compaixo, capacidade de escuta, compreenso e coabitao para as corporaes que funcionam em uma sociedade guiada pelo frenesi da tica da concorrncia e da consumolatria. Esta tese evidencia que a atuao dos consumidores e das empresas no mundo on-line representa mais que um elemento circunstancial de (in) tolerncia mtua; desenha um destino comum que pode ter como rumo a outridade solidria do prximo, aceitando a experincia da alteridade, o risco do fracasso e a esperana da confiana e do respeito que a comunicao pode conceber.

There is a growing body of literature which marks out a feminist ethics of care and it is within this framework we understand transitions from primary to secondary school education can be challenging and care-less, especially for disabled children. By exploring the narratives of parents and professionals, we investigate transitions and self-identity, as a meaningful transition depends on the care-full spaces pupils inhabit. These education narratives are all in the context of privileging academic attainment and a culture of testing and examinations. Parents and professionals, as well as children are also surveyed. Until there are care-full education processes, marginalisation will remain, impacting on disabled childrens transition to secondary school and healthy identity construction. Moreover, if educational challenges are not addressed, their life chances are increasingly limited. Interdependent caring work enables engagement in a meaningful education and positive identity formation. In school and at home, care-full spaces are key in this process.

Historical archaeology, in its narrow temporal sense -as an archaeology of the emergence and subsequent evolution of the Modern world- is steadily taking pace in Spanish academia. This paper aims at provoking a more robust debate through understanding how Spanish historical archaeology is placed in the international scene and some of its more relevant particularities. In so doing, the paper also stresses the strong links that have united historical and prehistorical archaeology since its inception, both in relation to the ontological, epistemological and methodological definition of the first as to the influence of socio-political issues in the latter. Such reflection is partly a situated reflection from prehistory as one of the papers authors has been a prehistorian for most of her professional life.

Este trabajo tiene como objetivo estudiar los diferentes estados mentales de los personajes de las novelas de Tu rostro maana, de Javier Maras. Estudiando las reflexiones del narrador sobre J. Deza, Peter Wheeler o Francisco Rico observamos que su decadencia mental se muestra a travs de una suerte de presciencia o lucidez momentnea que puede servir para mostrar el silencio como nica tendencia de todo discurso. Desde el momento en que toda historia de ficcin se cimenta sobre un discurso no importa su cauce de presentacin, ni su fuente este es falsificado por el tiempo, la gente y cualquier otra herramienta que pueda ser utilizada para contar nada. Las conclusiones de este trabajo muestran la quimera que implica tratar de mantener una contencin absoluta sobre lo acaecido, pues dicho vaco de narrativas ser ocupado por una suplantacin que suele ser el reverso ms infame de sus actores. Es por ello que el narrador J. Deza sigue conminado a explicar sus historias, incluso all donde uno dira que ya no puede haber ni palabras suficientes para traducir un hecho en ficcin.

En general, Espaa es un pas que no tiene una tradicin slida en la sinologa. La traduccin de la literatura china en Espaa todava no llega a un nivel satisfactorio y muchas obras originales todava siguen sumidas en el desconocimiento. En comparacin con los flujos de traduccin de las obras occidentales, sobre todo las obras literarias de Gran Bretaa, Francia y Estados Unidos, la traduccin de aquellas todava ocupa una cuota reducida. En la recepcin de la narrativa china en Espaa, la traduccin indirecta ha desempeado un papel de suma importancia, lo que se debe en gran medida a la dependencia del crculo editorial espaol de las culturas europeas de poder. Esta situacin desequilibrada pone de manifiesto las relaciones asimtricas entre lenguas y culturas.

In this article we propose to take up the question of the painters work in connection with liminality more explicitly. We will argue that the limen Varos heroines cross is a psychological one that takes them through a process culminating in a rebirth of the self, and that to the extent they are in-between identities and involved in a process of initiation, they can be considered liminars (Turner). We will also argue that in order to develop this theme, which culminates in her most autobiographical work, the triptych Bordando el manto terrestre (19612), the artist needed to find a way conceptually to bridge surrealism and her interest in mysticism. She would have found a sympathetic approach in Jung, one of the founders of psychoanalysis, who turned explicitly to the question of religion in the troubled thirties, though, as we shall see, she revised his androcentric approach. We will suggest that Jungs writing helped the artist make a transition from surrealism to esoteric spirituality.

O presente estudo de caso agregado teve como objetivo primordial avaliar em que medida os recursos teraputicos utilizados durante o tempo de avaliao psicodiagnstica (psicomtrica e projetiva) das crianas encaminhadas para o servio de psicologia escolar, tem impacto positivo na criana em processo de avaliao, no duplo plano comportamental e cognitivo. O protocolo da investigao foi composto por: desenho de famlia, WISC-III e CAT, com recurso a algumas sesses de ludoterapia. Os meios utilizados no processo de avaliao permitiram a superao de algumas dificuldades apresentadas pelas crianas, tendo sido, muito particularmente, identificados os contributos que a psicanlise e a psicologia psicodinmica podem oferecer psicopedagogia. / The main objective of this aggregated case study was the assessment of the impact of psycho-diagnostic evaluation (psychometric and projective testing) on the improvement of the school-aged children oriented to the cabinet of psychology of their school. The research protocol included: family picture test, WISC -III and CAT, plus some play therapy sessions. Some of the children overcame part of the learning and behavioral difficulties after the evaluation period. Such a result proves, most particularly, the contributions of psychoanalysis and psychodynamic psychology to psycho-pedagogy.

Si le Marx de Michel Henry reconduit plusieurs thses dveloppes dans les crits antrieurs et anticipe celles de la trilogie sur le christianisme, le dialogue quil instaure autour du thme de la praxis lui confre un statut singulier dans lensemble de loeuvre. Parce que Marx attribue la pratique de lindividu et aux rapports rels entre les pratiques le pouvoir de crer les idalits, notamment celle de la valeur, Henry est lui-mme conduit dplacer le champ dimmanence quil avait jusque-l situ du ct de lego et du corps vers la pratique et le systme du travail vivant aux prises avec le monde objectif. Or du point de vue dune phnomnologie matrielle, pour autant quil renvoie un point de vue extrieur la stricte immanence, le seul usage de la notion d individu manifeste dj une prise en compte de la transcendance , poussant Henry suspendre pour une part lapproche phnomnologique. Mme si lacosmisme de Lessence de la manifestation transparait encore dans le Marx, il est mis en tension extrme avec le monde des dterminations sociales et conomiques et contraint lauteur dvelopper la thse de lenracinement de ces dterminations dans limmanence de la vie et de la praxis. Cest en mme temps ce qui fait la force et loriginalit de la lecture henryenne de Marx. Dun autre ct, quand bien mme elle hrite dune thique de la praxis, la trilogie semble perdre de vue la stricte individualit de la praxis qui apparat dans le Marx. Cest ainsi que le concept de Vie Absolue quelle promeut est associ une exigence duniversel que Henry avait pralablement disqualifie, notamment travers sa critique de Hegel. La thse quon va lire cherche ainsi rendre compte de loriginalit absolue du Marx dans loeuvre du phnomnologue franais.

With the expansion and increased availability of Higher Education the progression to study for an undergraduate degree has been viewed as a simple stepping stone with examination success a straight - forward border pass. Changes in the funding of degree courses has established a series of more challenging boundaries to entry which demand a rigorous assessment of the benefits of Higher Education. The Widening Participation Unit at The University of Worcester has sought to ease this border crossing for pupils whose parents have not been to university. Their experience from previous projects was that school pupils more easily relate to undergraduate students whose experience of Higher Education is recent and relevant. With this in mind they commissioned the Drama and Performance Department to create a Theatre in Education programme that introduced an awareness of post sixteen options and future choices to challenge Higher Education stereotypes. As a result of this collaboration Why Bother? was created, directed by myself and devised and researched with four students who were studying drama. Their own experiences were used to inform the character development and dealt with worrying as a mature student about integration into full time education, loss of income after working, the pressures of emotional commitments to partners and being away from home. The programme toured to two thousand year 9 11 pupils in Worcestershire and Herefordshire schools in January and May 2011. Devising and touring Why Bother provided students with an opportunity to work as a professional paid TIE team that it is not possible for them to do as part of their undergraduate degree course. My initial research looks at the effectiveness and limitations of this project based on pupil questionnaires and the experiences of the team which are explored within the broader context of TIE and its potential for affecting attitudinal change. This has given rise to a number of questions that need consideration in the development of a new TIE programme aimed at raising the awareness of sixth form students who are about to make the decision whether to apply to university or not. Collaboration with university students in exploring the value of an education that they have subscribed to raises issues of bias and whether their powers of persuasion actually prevent pupils from making their own individual decision. The ethics of promoting a free university education seem much less complex than the decision required now which involves balancing the real value against the high financial cost suggested in the working title of Is it Worth it? This paper will present my first attempts to develop research methods and methodologies that will enable me to evaluate the success of this and future TIE.

A Medicina Dentria uma rea da medicina em que os profissionais podem realizar procedimentos cirrgicos invasivos e prescrever formulaes farmacolgicas de maneira autnoma, a partir de diagnsticos realizados por eles prprios. O exerccio das atividades mdicas deve ser pautado em princpios ticos, legais e na compreenso da realidade social, econmica e cultural do local onde exercem os profissionais. Para tanto, o estudo dos Cdigos Deontolgicos e dos Cdigos de tica e Deontolgicos so importantes instrumentos na busca por este paradigma de conduta. O Objetivo deste trabalho de pesquisa pretende comparar o Cdigo Deontolgico de Medicina Dentria em Portugal com o Cdigo de tica Odontolgica Brasileiro, buscando diferenas e semelhanas. Realizou-se uma reviso bibliogrfica do Cdigo Deontolgico Portugus e do Cdigo de tica Odontolgica Brasileiro, utilizando-se dos prprios cdigos, livros e artigos pertinentes ao estudo. Pode-se verificar que ambos os cdigos so Completos. O Cdigo Deontolgico Portugus complementado por Regulamentos internos da Ordem dos Mdicos Dentistas. Existem temas especficos no Cdigo Brasileiro que no esto presente no Cdigo Portugus.
