This report examines the process used to evaluated faculty and staff, including the evaluation timeline, administrative oversight, technological tools, and performance management trainings for faculty and staff managers. Additionally, this report describes how administrators use annual performance evaluations to award merit-based pay.

Analysis of the interplay between knowledge and performance management in industrial clusters

The concept of industrial clustering has been studied in-depth by policy makers and researchers from many fields, mainly due to the competitive advantages it may bring to regional economies. Companies often take part in collaborative initiatives with local partners while also taking advantage of knowledge spillovers to benefit from locating in a cluster. Thus, Knowledge Management (KM) and Performance Management (PM) have become relevant topics for policy makers and cluster associations when undertaking collaborative initiatives. Taking this into account, this paper aims to explore the interplay between both topics using a case study conducted in a collaborative network formed within a cluster. The results show that KM should be acknowledged as a formal area of cluster management so that PM practices can support knowledge-oriented initiatives and therefore make better use of the new knowledge created. Furthermore, tacit and explicit knowledge resulting from PM practices needs to be stored and disseminated throughout the cluster as a way of improving managerial practices and regional strategic direction. Lo standard ISO/IEC 19794-5 fornisce alcune guide linea ed esempi di immagini di volto accettabili e non-accettabili. Negli ultimi anni, molte aziende hanno sviluppato SDK con lo scopo di implementare i test proposti dallo standard. La tesi si prefigura il compito di fornire un framework che fornisca buone prestazioni, sia per quanto riguarda i tempi sia per l'accuratezza dei risultati.

A Personalized Privacy Management Framework for Android Applications

Ogni giorno, l'utente di smartphon e tablet, spesso senza rendersene conto, condivide, tramite varie applicazioni, un'enorme quantità di informazioni. Negli attuali sistemi operativi, l'assenza di meccanismi utili a garantire adeguatamente l'utente, ha spinto questo lavoro di ricerca verso lo sviluppo di un inedito framework.È stato necessario uno studio approfondito dello stato dell'arte di soluzioni con gli stessi obiettivi. Sono stati esaminati sia modelli teorici che pratici, con l'analisi accurata del relativo codice. Il lavoro, in stretto contatto con i colleghi dell'Università Centrale della Florida e la condivisione delle conoscenze con gli stessi, ha portato ad importanti risultati. Questo lavoro ha prodotto un framework personalizzato per gestire la privacy nelle applicazioni mobili che, nello specifico, è stato sviluppato per Android OS e necessita dei permessi di root per poter realizzare il suo funzionamento. Il framework in questione sfrutta le funzionalità offerte dal Xposed Framework, con il risultato di implementare modifiche al sistema operativo, senza dover cambiare il codice di Android o delle applicazioni che eseguono su quest’ultimo. Il framework sviluppato controlla l’accesso da parte delle varie applicazioni in esecuzione verso le informazioni sensibili dell’utente e stima l’importanza che queste informazioni hanno per l’utente medesimo. Le informazioni raccolte dal framework sulle preferenze e sulle valutazioni dell’utente vengono usate per costruire un modello decisionale che viene sfruttato da un algoritmo di machine-learning per migliorare l’interazione del sistema con l’utente e prevedere quelle che possono essere le decisioni dell'utente stesso, circa la propria privacy. Questo lavoro di tesi realizza gli obbiettivi sopra citati e pone un'attenzione particolare nel limitare la pervasività del sistema per la gestione della privacy, nella quotidiana esperienza dell'utente con i dispositivi mobili.

Online distribution management framework by incorporating wind generation

In distribution system operations, dispatchers at control center closely monitor system operating limits to ensure system reliability and adequacy. This reliability is partly due to the provision of remote controllable tie and sectionalizing switches. While the stochastic nature of wind generation can impact the level of wind energy penetration in the network, an estimate of the output from wind on hourly basis can be extremely useful. Under any operating conditions, the switching actions require human intervention and can be an extremely stressful task. Currently, handling a set of switching combinations with the uncertainty of distributed wind generation as part of the decision variables has been nonexistent. This thesis proposes a three-fold online management framework: (1) prediction of wind speed, (2) estimation of wind generation capacity, and (3) enumeration of feasible switching combinations. The proposed methodology is evaluated on 29-node test system with 8 remote controllable switches and two wind farms of 18MW and 9MW nameplate capacities respectively for generating the sequence of system reconfiguration states during normal and emergency conditions.

Performance Management: Can Coaching Result in Improved Employee Satisfaction and Motivation?

The goal of this project is to determine whether or not coaching, as a part of performance management, results in increased employee motivation, ultimately impacting employee performance. Teletech's customer service group was a case study where their effectiveness of performance management through coaching was analyzed. The data for this research was gathered from interviews of two of TeleTech's managers, and an employee survey created by the author. The results reveal that most participants felt more motivated after their coaching sessions, changed their behavior based on feedback during coaching, resulting in improved performance. Therefore, the results of the project show that regular coaching, as part of performance management, results in improved employee satisfaction and motivation, resulting in increased productivity.

A Construction Management Framework for Mass Customisation in Traditional Construction

A Mass Customisation model is discussed as a competitive positioning strategy in the marketplace adding value to the customer’s end-use. It includes the user as part of the construction process responding to the customer’s demands and wishes. To the present day, almost all proposals for Mass Customisation have been focused on the design phase and single family houses. The reality is that the processes carried out in the work execution are so inefficient that the costs of the Mass Customisation models are assumed by the customer and they do not offer solutions that support the change management. Furthermore, this inefficiency often makes Mass Customisation unfeasible in terms of deadlines and site management. Therefore, the present proposal focuses on achieving the paradigm of Mass Customisation in the traditional residential construction complementary to the existing proposals in the design phase. All this through the proposal of a framework for the integral management in the work execution, which will address change management introduced by the users offering an efficient and productive model that reduces costs in the process. This model will focus on the synergy between different strategies, techniques and technologies currently used in the construction management (such as Lean Construction or Six Sigma), together with, other strategies and technologies that have proven to be valid solutions in other fields (such as Business Process Management, Service Oriented Architecture, etc.).
