Ohutlevyjen laserhitsaus

Tässä diplomityössä tarkasteltiin laseria ja sen käyttöä laserhitsauksessa. Laserin käyttäminen asettaa omat vaatimuksensa ja haasteet laserhitsattavan tuotteen ja mahdollisen kiinnittimen suunnittelulle. Lisäksi laserin käyttö konepajassa asettaa tiettyjä vaatimuksia työympäristölle. Diplomityössä suunniteltiin uudelleen eräs ohutlevystä valmistettava kotelo ja pyrittiin selvittämään soveltuuko se laserhitsattavaksi, ja saako kotelosta hitsattua täysin tiiviin. Kotelo soveltui hyvin laserhitsattavaksi, mutta täysin tiiviin kotelon hitsaaminen oli haasteellista ja hyvin epävarmaa.

M-käsittelyn vaikutus lastuamalla valmistettavan tuotteen valmistuskustannuksiin

Paremmin lastuttavia M-käsiteltyjä teräksiä on käytetty yrityksissä jo yli 20 vuoden ajan. Ominaisuuksiensa ansiosta M-teräksillä on pystytty pienentämään koneistuskustannuksia ja parantamaan kilpailukykyä. Viime vuosien aikana lastuavat terät ja työstökoneet ovat kuitenkin kehittyneet ja ero M-terästen ja tavanomaisten terästen välillä on voinut kaventua. Tämän diplomityön tavoitteena oli tutkia, saavutetaanko M-teräksen käytöllä taloudellisia etuja nykyaikaisissa konepajaolosuhteissa. Tutkimuksessa vertailtiin M-käsitellyn ja tavanomaisen 42CrMo4 – teräksen koneistusta. Valmistuskokeissa tarkasteltiin terien kulumista, lastun muotoa ja pinnanlaatua. Koekappaleena toimi olakkeellinen kuusiomutteri M64 kierteellä. Tuotteita valmistettiin yli 500 kappaletta ja materiaalia poistettiin noin 2000 kg. Koetulosten perusteella tuotteille laskettiin koneistuskustannukset kuvitteellisessa yrityksessä. Ero materiaalien välillä oli suurin työvaiheissa, joissa lastuaminen oli jatkuvaa. Sisä- ja ulkosorvauksessa M-käsiteltyä terästä lastunneiden terien kestoikä oli noin kaksinkertainen ja kierteen sorvauksessa noin nelinkertainen tavalliseen teräkseen verrattuna. Hakkaavassa työstössä terien kestoikä oli molemmilla materiaaleilla sama. Työssä suoritettujen kokeiden ja kustannuslaskelmien perusteella, käyttämällä M-käsiteltyä terästä voidaan pienentää valmistuskustannuksia. Materiaalien välinen ero korostuu, kun hakkaavaa työstöä on vähän, sarjat ovat suuria ja tuotanto on miehittämätöntä.

Organisaatiomuutoksen jalkautuminen konepajayritykseen

Tutkimuksessa tarkasteltiin suomalaisen konepajayrityksen muutosprosessia, jossa se siirtyy yksilökeskeisestä tiimimäiseen toimintatapaan. Tavoitteena oli selvittää, missä asioissa organisaatio on onnistunut ja missä epäonnistunut muutosprosessissa. Tulosten pohjalta analysoitiin yrityksen muutosjohtamista ja muutosvastarinnan tekijöitä ja ideoitiin keinoja miten pysyvä muutos voitaisiin aikaansaada. Tutkimus on luokiteltavissa laadulliseksi tapaustutkimukseksi, jonka aineistona hyödynnettiin yrityksessä toteutettuja kyselytutkimuksia sekä niiden tulosten pohjalta muodostettujen puolistrukturoitujen yksilöhaastatteluiden lausumia. Tutkimus tarkasteli organisaatiota muutoksen alkutilanteessa ja noin vuosi muutoksen aloittamisen jälkeen, joten kyseessä oli toimintatutkimus. Vuoden aikana yrityksessä koettu muutos oli hyvin tiimikohtaista: toiset tiimit toimivat jo hyvinkin tiimimäisesti, mutta toiset tiimit olivat toteuttaneet tiimiytymistä lähinnä pakonomaisesti. Merkittävä syy vähäiseen muutokseen oli se, ettei johto ollut selkeästi viestinyt muutoksen välttämättömyydestä eikä kertonut mistä toiminnassa on kyse ja mitä sillä haetaan. Johtamisen olisi pitänyt myös olla selkeämmin ihmisten johtamista huomioiden yksilöiden motivointitekijöitä ja ryhmäkäyttäytymistä. Olennaista olisi myös kiinnittää enemmän huomiota työhyvinvointitekijöihin, jotta henkilöstö saadaan motivoituneeksi toimimaan yhteiseksi hyväksi.

Auction Sale Notice

Auction Sale notice concerning a brick and stone carpenter shop; a frame wheel-house building and a stone machine shop building all located on Cascade Street in Niagara Falls, Ontario. The Superintendent of the State Reservation at Niagara is listed as Thomas W. Welch. The names Thomas Dolphin – Suspension Bridge; W.A. Frazer – Suspension Bridge; Alice L. [illegible] – Niagara Falls and James C. [illegible] are written on the notice in blue pencil. There is a tear at the top of the notice and wear along the sides. Text is not affected. The item is slightly discoloured and mounted on cardboard, 28 cm x 20 cm, January 27, 1886.

Energy harvesting from piezoelectric devices embedded in a 3D printed wing

This thesis work has been carried out at Clarkson University in Potsdam NY, USA and involved the design of a low elongation wing, consisting of parts made by polylactide (PLA) using the fused deposition model (FDM) technology of Rapid Prototyping, then assembled together in a thin aluminum spar. The aim of the research is to evaluate the feasibility of collecting electrical energy by converting mechanical energy from the vibration of the wing flutter. With this aim piezoelectric stripes were glued in the inner part of the wing, as well as on the aluminum spar, as monomorphic configuration. During the phases of the project, particular attention was given to the geometry and the materials used, in order to trigger the flutter for low flow velocity. The CAD software SolidWorks® was used for the design of the wing and then the drawings were sent to the Clarkson machine shop in order to to produce the parts required by the wing assembly. FEM simulations were performed, using software MSC NASTRAN/PATRAN®, to evaluate the stiffness of the whole wing as well as the natural vibration modes of the structure. These data, in a first approximation, were used to predict the flutter speed. Finally, experimental tests in the Clarkson wind tunnel facility were carried out in order to validate the results obtained from FEM analysis. The power collected by the piezoelectrics under flutter condition was addressed by tuning the resistors downstream the electronic circuit of the piezoelectrics.
