Gamification e rilevazione di barriere architettoniche: un caso di studio con applicazioni mobili

Questo volume di tesi descrive lo sviluppo di un'applicazione cross-platform per la raccolta dati sull'accessibilità urbana. E' stato creato un Pervasive GWAP strutturato in modo tale da raccogliere, tramite un gioco in mixed-reality, dati sulla geolocalizzazione delle barriere/facility architettoniche in ambiente urbano, in modo da mappare il territorio. Il gioco è rivolto a bambini accompagnati da insegnanti/genitori e prevede l'utilizzo di dispositivi mobili quali tablet e smartphone con sistema operativo Andoid. E' stata utilizzata la funzione GPS dei dispositivi per la geolocalizzazione dei giocatori e delle barriere/facility segnalate e la CAMERA per lo scan dei Qr-Code utilizzati come incentivo per intrattenere gli utenti. L'applicazione è scritta utilizzando tecnologie web quali HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, JSON e grazie all'utilizzo del framework Apache Cordova è stato possibile lo sviluppo multipiattaforma. Questo strumento permette di utilizzare tecnologie web per lo sviluppo di applicazioni mobile, generando codice nativo supportato da sistemi operativi quali Android, iOS, BlackBerry.

Key factors affecting purchase intention in Russian online context

Russian e-commerce has drawn a lot of attention in academic publications as well as in public media lately. The market is growing with a speed of rocket offering companies enormous business opportunities. However, combination of Russian culture, consumer online purchasing and decision-making process forms a subject yet completely unknown. From international online business perspective it is vital for companies to know how a culture affects consumer’s purchase decision and what are the key elements that need to be modified in order to successfully expand online operations to Russian market. Here, the main purpose is to define the key factors affecting Russian consumer’s online purchase intention. In order to answer the main research question, firstly the role of culture in purchase intention context is researched. Secondly, focus is drawn to the factors that affect online purchase intention. Lastly, it is researched how Russian culture is affecting e-commerce attributes modification. The objective is not only to expand the theoretical understanding of the subject but also to provide companies with a clear vision on how the online operations should be conducted in Russian online market. Ranganathan’s and Jha’s conceptual framework was chosen as a ground theory in this study. Here, three main categories Computer Self-Efficacy and Past Online Experience, Website Quality and Costumer Concerns form basis for the study. Various articles and academic literature supplemented this theoretical approach. Qualitative research method was adapted and the study was conducted through five expert interviews. As a conclusion it can be stated that culture forms a ground for entire purchase decision-making process in online context. Results from the interviews were grouped according to main three theoretic categories and placed with Ranganathan’s and Jha’s original framework. This formed a new theoretical framework that defines diverse factors affecting specifically Russian consumer’s online purchase intention. This study suggests that following factors need to be taking into serious consideration in Russian online context: photography style, detailed product and company information, colors, language, product variety, reviews, recommendations, strong social media presence, fast check out and minimalistic order information, counterfeit fear, cash on delivery payment, training and guidance, extensive customer service, consumers’ insecurity, inexperience, high interest for technology and their individualistic personality.

NMR relaxation behavior and quadrupole coupling constants of 39K and 23Na ions in glycerol. Comparisons with 39K tissue data

The quadrupole coupling constants (qcc) for39K and23Na ions in glycerol have been calculated from linewidths measured as a function of temperature (which in turn results in changes in solution viscosity). The qcc of39K in glycerol is found to be 1.7 MHz, and that of23Na is 1.6 MHz. The relaxation behavior of39K and23Na ions in glycerol shows magnetic field and temperature dependence consistent with the equations for transverse relaxation more commonly used to describe the reorientation of nuclei in a molecular framework with intramolecular field gradients. It is shown, however, that τc is not simply proportional to the ratio of viscosity/temperature (ηT). The 39K qcc in glycerol and the value of 1.3 MHz estimated for this nucleus in aqueous solution are much greater than values of 0.075 to 0.12 MHz calculated from T2 measurements of39K in freshly excised rat tissues. This indicates that, in biological samples, processes such as exchange of potassium between intracellular compartments or diffusion of ions through locally ordered regions play a significant role in determining the effective quadrupole coupling constant and correlation time governing39K relaxation. T1 and T2 measurements of rat muscle at two magnetic fields also indicate that a more complex correlation function may be required to describe the relaxation of39K in tissue. Similar results and conclusions are found for23Na.

Data-resolution based optimization of the data-collection strategy for near infrared diffuse optical tomography

Purpose: To optimize the data-collection strategy for diffuse optical tomography and to obtain a set of independent measurements among the total measurements using the model based data-resolution matrix characteristics. Methods: The data-resolution matrix is computed based on the sensitivity matrix and the regularization scheme used in the reconstruction procedure by matching the predicted data with the actual one. The diagonal values of data-resolution matrix show the importance of a particular measurement and the magnitude of off-diagonal entries shows the dependence among measurements. Based on the closeness of diagonal value magnitude to off-diagonal entries, the independent measurements choice is made. The reconstruction results obtained using all measurements were compared to the ones obtained using only independent measurements in both numerical and experimental phantom cases. The traditional singular value analysis was also performed to compare the results obtained using the proposed method. Results: The results indicate that choosing only independent measurements based on data-resolution matrix characteristics for the image reconstruction does not compromise the reconstructed image quality significantly, in turn reduces the data-collection time associated with the procedure. When the same number of measurements (equivalent to independent ones) are chosen at random, the reconstruction results were having poor quality with major boundary artifacts. The number of independent measurements obtained using data-resolution matrix analysis is much higher compared to that obtained using the singular value analysis. Conclusions: The data-resolution matrix analysis is able to provide the high level of optimization needed for effective data-collection in diffuse optical imaging. The analysis itself is independent of noise characteristics in the data, resulting in an universal framework to characterize and optimize a given data-collection strategy. Optimal control analysis of the dynamic growth behavior of microorganisms

Understanding the growth behavior of microorganisms using modeling and optimization techniques is an active area of research in the fields of biochemical engineering and systems biology. In this paper, we propose a general modeling framework, based on Monad model, to model the growth of microorganisms. Utilizing the general framework, we formulate an optimal control problem with the objective of maximizing a long-term cellular goal and solve it analytically under various constraints for the growth of microorganisms in a two substrate batch environment. We investigate the relation between long term and short term cellular goals and show that the objective of maximizing cellular concentration at a fixed final time is equivalent to maximization of instantaneous growth rate. We then establish the mathematical connection between the generalized framework and optimal and cybernetic modeling frameworks and derive generalized governing dynamic equations for optimal and cybernetic models. We finally illustrate the influence of various constraints in the cybernetic modeling framework on the optimal growth behavior of microorganisms by solving several dynamic optimization problems using genetic algorithms. El objetivo de este proyecto ha sido la realización de una aplicación para tablets con sistema operativo iOS de Apple. La aplicación la puede utilizar cualquier persona con inquietudes sobre el mundo del fútbol, pero está pensada básicamente para entrenadores que busquen almacenar datos relacionados con sus equipos, jugadores, partidos, estadísticas de los equipos y los jugadores, etc. La información introducida quedará almacenada hasta que el usuario decida lo contrario eliminando los datos que ya no desee tener en su dispositivo de manera fácil e intuitiva. Aparte de eso, se ha desarrollado una pizarra táctil donde el usuario podrá realizar sus tácticas previas al partido y enseñársela a sus jugadores. Dispondrá de dos colores para diferenciar los diferentes jugadores que se dibujen. Además, se pueden realizar ligas online para que varios usuarios simultáneamente accedan a su contenido o lo modifiquen. Las ligas podrán ser reales a nivel profesional, de amigos o incluso ligas de videojuegos. Se ha realizado un apartado de mensajería donde los usuarios se podrán comunicar entre ellos sin salir de la aplicación. Bastará con buscar al usuario en el sistema, seleccionarlo y mandarle un mensaje. Si un usuario decide eliminar todos sus datos del sistema, podrá hacerlo y se eliminará cualquier información relacionada con él.

Inference in credal networks using multilinear programming

A credal network is a graphical tool for representation and manipulation of uncertainty, where probability values may be imprecise or indeterminate. A credal network associates a directed acyclic graph with a collection of sets of probability measures; in this context, inference is the computation of tight lower and upper bounds for conditional probabilities. In this paper we present new algorithms for inference in credal networks based on multilinear programming techniques. Experiments indicate that these new algorithms have better performance than existing ones, in the sense that they can produce more accurate results in larger networks.

Voices of the Undereducated in Adult Education and Training in Ontario: A Phenomenographic Approach

This doctoral study was an exploration of the qualitatively different ways in which undereducated adults (at or below a high school level of formal education) reported their experiences of participation in adult education and training (AET) programmes offered by publicly funded school boards or their arms-length affiliate in the province of Ontario. In light of a low participation rate in the Canadian AET system by undereducated adults, the rationale was to examine whether or not AET programmes are meeting the needs of undereducated adults beyond a narrow focus on an instrumental approach associated with human capital development. This study was located in a theoretical framework consisting of (a) learning theory, (b) motivations for participation, (c) general barriers to participation, (d) structural barriers to participation, and (e) transformative learning. The purposive sample consisted of 11 participants between the ages of 18-58 who were drawn from service providers in 4 geographic regions of Ontario. Data collection consisted of (a) demographics, (b) voice recordings from face-to-face participant interviews, (c) participant weekly critical incident reports, and (d) researcher reflexive journal notes. Data were analyzed in accordance with a phenomenographic approach within a constructivist/interpretivist research paradigm. Findings revealed 4 qualitatively different ways in which undereducated adult learners reported their experiences of participation in AET and were reported as the voice of (a) security, (b) engagement, (c) relationship, and (d) competency. Implications to theory and practice and to further inquiry were outlined.

Technological convergence: a strategic perspective

The information and communication technologies (ICT) sectors are in a process of technological convergence. Determinant factors in this process are the liberalisation of the telecommunications markets and technological change. Many firms are engaged in a process of mergers and alliances to position themselves in this new framework. Technological and demand uncertainties are very important. Our objective in this paper is to study the economic determinants of the strategies of the firms. With this aim, we review some key technological and demand aspects. We shed some light on the strategic motivations of the firms by establishing a parallel with the evolution of the retailing sector

Dinámicas entre tensiones espaciales como instituciones sobre la propiedad de la tierra en la ley de reparación de víctimas y restitución de tierras: evolución histórica y situación actual.

Antes de que Colombia fuera país, ya existían disputas, enfrentamientos e injusticias en torno a la estructura de acceso, tenencia y usufructo de la tierra. Tal situación engendró tensiones espaciales, que se pueden abordar y caracterizar a partir de un marco teórico sobre neoinstitucionalismo político. Con lo anterior en mente, el objetivo de ésta investigación , fue el de determinar la manera en que las dinámicas entre tensiones espaciales históricas como instituciones, delinearon el contexto del cual surgió la Ley 1448 de 2011 (Restitución de tierras y reparación de víctimas del conflicto armado) y la intervención e incidencia que ésta pretende, en la coyuntura actual.

Calidad de vida laboral y liderazgo en trabajadores asistenciales y administrativos en un centro oncológico de la ciudad de Bogotá

El propósito de este estudio fue describir la Calidad de vida laboral (CVL) y el estilo de liderazgo percibido por el personal administrativo/asistencial de un centro oncológico y estimar la asociación entre ellas, considerando las características sociodemográficas. Para ello se aplicó el Cuestionario de Vida profesional [CVP-35] y el Test de Adjetivos de Pitcher [PAT]. En general, los participantes presentan una CVL satisfactoria, caracterizada principalmente por motivación intrínseca, lo cual fue más evidente en el personal asistencial. Respecto al liderazgo, se observó una percepción de ausencia de liderazgo o características poco deseables de éste, lo cual aunque no determina la CVL, si constituye un factor modulador de la misma, las variables sociodemográficas no guardaron relación con la CVL. Por último se resalta la responsabilidad social que tienen los directivos sobre bienestar de los trabajadores de la salud, y consecuentemente sobre la atención al paciente. Se discuten estos hallazgos y lo pertinente de utilizar las categorías emergentes del PAT.
