The gradual changes in the world development have brought energy issues back into high profile. An ongoing challenge for countries around the world is to balance the development gains against its effects on the environment. The energy management is the key factor of any sustainable development program. All the aspects of development in agriculture, power generation, social welfare and industry in Iran are crucially related to the energy and its revenue. Forecasting end-use natural gas consumption is an important Factor for efficient system operation and a basis for planning decisions. In this thesis, particle swarm optimization (PSO) used to forecast long run natural gas consumption in Iran. Gas consumption data in Iran for the previous 34 years is used to predict the consumption for the coming years. Four linear and nonlinear models proposed and six factors such as Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Population, National Income (NI), Temperature, Consumer Price Index (CPI) and yearly Natural Gas (NG) demand investigated.

This dissertation aims to develop a software applied to a communication system for a wireless sensor network (WSN) for tracking analog and digital variables and control valve of the gas flow in artificial oil s elevation units, Plunger Lift type. The reason for this implementation is due to the fact that, in the studied plant configuration, the sensors communicate with the PLC (Programmable and Logic Controller) by the cables and pipelines, making any changes in that system, such as changing the layout of it, as well as inconveniences that arise from the nature of the site, such as the vicinity s animals presence that tend to destroy the cables for interconnection of sensors to the PLC. For software development, was used communication polling method via SMAC protocol (Simple Medium Access ControlIEEE 802.15.4 standard) in the CodeWarrior environment to which generated a firmware, loaded into the WSN s transceivers, present in the kit MC13193-EVK, (all items described above are owners of Freescale Semiconductors Inc.). The network monitoring and parameterization used in its application, was developed in LabVIEW software from National Instruments. The results were obtained through the observation of the network s behavior of sensors proposal, focusing on aspects such as: indoor and outdoor quantity of packages received and lost, general aspects of reliability in data transmission, coexistence with other types of wireless networks and power consumption under different operating conditions. The results were considered satisfactory, which showed the software efficiency in this communication system

This work proposes the development of an Adaptive Neuro-fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) estimator applied to speed control in a three-phase induction motor sensorless drive. Usually, ANFIS is used to replace the traditional PI controller in induction motor drives. The evaluation of the estimation capability of the ANFIS in a sensorless drive is one of the contributions of this work. The ANFIS speed estimator is validated in a magnetizing flux oriented control scheme, consisting in one more contribution. As an open-loop estimator, it is applied to moderate performance drives and it is not the proposal of this work to solve the low and zero speed estimation problems. Simulations to evaluate the performance of the estimator considering the vector drive system were done from the Matlab/Simulink(R) software. To determine the benefits of the proposed model, a practical system was implemented using a voltage source inverter (VSI) to drive the motor and the vector control including the ANFIS estimator, which is carried out by the Real Time Toolbox from Matlab/Simulink(R) software and a data acquisition card from National Instruments.

ABSTRACT Data acquisition systems used in the diagnostics of thermonuclear fusion devices face important challenges due to the change in the data acquisition paradigm needed for long pulse operation. Even in shot pulse devices, where data is mainly analyzed after the discharge has finished , there is still a large amount of data that has not been analyzed, therefore producing a lot of buried knowledge that still lies undiscovered in the data bases holding the vast amount of data that has been generated. There has been a strong effort in the fusion community in the last decade to improve the offline analysis methods to overcome this problem, but it has proved to be insufficient unless some of these mechanisms can be run in real time. In long pulse devices this new paradigm, where data acquisition devices include local processing capabilities to be able to run advanced data analysis algorithms, will be a must. The research works done in this thesis aim to determining whether it is possible to increase local capacity for real‐time processing of such systems by using GPUs. For that, during the experimentation period, various proposals have been evaluated through use cases developed for several of the most representative fusion devices, ITER, JET and TCV. Conclusions and experiences obtained have allowed to propose a model, and a development methodology, to include this technology in systems for diagnostics of different nature. The model defines not only the optimal hardware architecture for achieving this integration, but also the incorporation of this new processing resource in one of the Systems of Supervision Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems more relevant at the moment in the fusion community (EPICS), providing a complete solution. The final evaluation has been performed through a use case developed for a generic diagnostic requiring image acquisition and processing for the international ITER device, and has been successfully tested in their premises. The solution proposed in this thesis has been included by the ITER IO in his catalog of standard solutions for the development of their future diagnostics. This has been possible thanks to the technologic transfer agreement signed with xi National Instruments which has permitted us to modify and update one of their core software products targeted for the acquisition systems used in these devices.

Abstract An essential aspect of our human rights is that we have freedom to express ourselves and to be informed. There are wide and specific human rights regulations, which seek to guarantee the freedom of expression: international and national instruments and reiterative jurisprudence. Two main principles that set the foundation for freedom of expression are liberty to express oneself and liberty to obtain and search for information. Censuring or limiting certain publications, as well as setting up mechanisms to restrict people’s access to public information, are subtle ways of threatening these rights.

The euro crisis has forced member states and the EU institutions to create a series of new instruments to safeguard macro-financial stability of the Union. This study describes the status of existing instruments, the role of the European Parliament and how the use of the instruments impinges on the EU budget also through their effects on national budgets. In addition, it presents a survey of other possible instruments that have been proposed in recent years (e.g. E-bonds and eurobonds), in order to provide an assessment of how EU macro-financial stability assistance could evolve in the future and what could be its impact on EU public finances.
