Resveratrol is a non-flavonoid polyphenol which belongs to the stilbenes group and is produced naturally in several plants in response to injury or fungal attack. Resveratrol has been recently reported as preventing obesity. The present review aims to compile the evidence concerning the potential mechanisms of action which underlie the anti-obesity effects of resveratrol, obtained either in cultured cells lines and animal models. Published studies demonstrate that resveratrol has an anti-adipogenic effect. A good consensus concerning the involvement of a down-regulation of C/EBPa and PPAR. in this effect has been reached. Also, in vitro studies have demonstrated that resveratrol can increase apoptosis in mature adipocytes. Furthermore, different metabolic pathways involved in triacylglycerol metabolism in white adipose tissue have been shown to be targets for resveratrol. Both the inhibition of de novo lipogenesis and adipose tissue fatty acid uptake mediated by lipoprotein lipase play a role in explaining the reduction in body fat which resveratrol induces. As far as lipolysis is concerned, although this compound per se seems to be unable to induce lipolysis, it increases lipid mobilization stimulated by beta-adrenergic agents. The increase in brown adipose tissue thermogenesis, and consequently the associated energy dissipation, can contribute to explaining the body-fat lowering effect of resveratrol. In addition to its effects on adipose tissue, resveratrol can also acts on other organs and tissues. Thus, it increases mitochondriogenesis and consequently fatty acid oxidation in skeletal muscle and liver. This effect can also contribute to the body-fat lowering effect of this molecule.

The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of dietary linolenic acid (LNA)linoleic acid (LA) ratio on growth performance, hepatic fatty acid profile and intermediary metabolism of juvenile yellow catfish Pelteobagrus fulvidraco. Six isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets were formulated to contain incremental levels of LNA from 0 to 5% at the expense of corn oil (rich in LA), resulting in six dietary treatments with LNA to LA ratios ranging from 0.35 to 14.64. The experiment continued for 7 weeks. Best growth and feed intake were obtained in the fish fed the diets containing the LNA/LA ratios of 1.17 and 2.12 (P<0.05). In contrast, feed conversion ratio was the lowest for fish fed the diets containing the LNA/LA ratios of 1.17 and 2.12 (P<0.05). Dietary LNA to LA ratios significantly influenced viscerosomatic index and hepatosomatic index (P<0.05), but not condition factor (P>0.05). Body composition was also significantly influenced by dietary LNA to LA ratios (P<0.05). Generally, liver FA compositions reflected dietary FA profiles. Declining LA and increasing LNA contents in liver were observed with the increasing dietary LNA/LA ratios (P<0.05). Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) increased with the increasing LNA to LA ratios, suggesting that yellow catfish could elongate and desaturate C18 polyunsaturated fatty acids into highly unsaturated fatty acids. As a consequence, the n-6 fatty acids (FA) declined, and total n-3 FA and n-3/n-6 ratios increased with the dietary ratios of LNA/LA (P<0.05). Dietary LNA to LA ratios significantly influenced several enzymatic activities involved in liver intermediary metabolism (P<0.05), such as lipoprotein lipase, hepatic lipase, pyruvate kinase, succinate dehydrogenase, malic dehydrogenase and lactate dehydrogenase, suggesting that dietary LNA/LA ratios had significant effects on nutrient metabolism in the liver. To our knowledge this is the first demonstration of the effects of dietary LNA to LA ratios on the enzymatic activities of liver in fish, which provides information on diet quality and utilization, and can also be used as an indicator of the nutritional status of this fish. Bacterial lipoproteins (LP) are a family of cell wall components found in a wide variety of bacteria. In this study, we characterized the response of HUCL, a telomerase-immortalized human corneal epithelial cell (HCEC) line, to LP isolated from Staphylococcus (S) aureus. S. aureus LP (saLP) prepared by Triton X-114 extraction stimulated the activation of NF-kappa B, JNK, and P38 signaling pathways in HUCL cells. The extracts failed to stimulate NF-kappa B activation in HUCL cells after lipoprotein lipase treatment and in cell lines expressing TLR4 or TLR9, but not TLR2, indicating lipoprotein nature of the extracts. saLP induced the up-regulation of a variety of inflammatory cytokines and chemokines (IL-6, IL-8, ICAM-1). antimicrobial molecules (hBD-2, LL-37, and iNOS), and homeostasis genes (Mn-SOD) at both the mRNA level and protein level. Similar inflammatory response to saLP was also observed in primarily cultured HCECs using the production of IL-6 as readout. Moreover, TLR2 neutralizing antibody blocked the saLP-induced secretion of IL-6, IL-8 and hBD2 in HUCL cells. Our findings suggest that saLP activates TLR2 and triggers innate immune response in the cornea to S. aureus infection via production of proinflammatory cytokines and defense molecules. BACKGROUND:Blood lipid levels including low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and triglycerides (TG) are highly heritable. Genome-wide association is a promising approach to map genetic loci related to these heritable phenotypes.METHODS:In 1087 Framingham Heart Study Offspring cohort participants (mean age 47 years, 52% women), we conducted genome-wide analyses (Affymetrix 100K GeneChip) for fasting blood lipid traits. Total cholesterol, HDL-C, and TG were measured by standard enzymatic methods and LDL-C was calculated using the Friedewald formula. The long-term averages of up to seven measurements of LDL-C, HDL-C, and TG over a ~30 year span were the primary phenotypes. We used generalized estimating equations (GEE), family-based association tests (FBAT) and variance components linkage to investigate the relationships between SNPs (on autosomes, with minor allele frequency [greater than or equal to]10%, genotypic call rate [greater than or equal to]80%, and Hardy-Weinberg equilibrium p [greater than or equal to] 0.001) and multivariable-adjusted residuals. We pursued a three-stage replication strategy of the GEE association results with 287 SNPs (P < 0.001 in Stage I) tested in Stage II (n ~1450 individuals) and 40 SNPs (P < 0.001 in joint analysis of Stages I and II) tested in Stage III (n~6650 individuals).RESULTS:Long-term averages of LDL-C, HDL-C, and TG were highly heritable (h2 = 0.66, 0.69, 0.58, respectively; each P < 0.0001). Of 70,987 tests for each of the phenotypes, two SNPs had p < 10-5 in GEE results for LDL-C, four for HDL-C, and one for TG. For each multivariable-adjusted phenotype, the number of SNPs with association p < 10-4 ranged from 13 to 18 and with p < 10-3, from 94 to 149. Some results confirmed previously reported associations with candidate genes including variation in the lipoprotein lipase gene (LPL) and HDL-C and TG (rs7007797; P = 0.0005 for HDL-C and 0.002 for TG). The full set of GEE, FBAT and linkage results are posted at the database of Genotype and Phenotype (dbGaP). After three stages of replication, there was no convincing statistical evidence for association (i.e., combined P < 10-5 across all three stages) between any of the tested SNPs and lipid phenotypes.CONCLUSION:Using a 100K genome-wide scan, we have generated a set of putative associations for common sequence variants and lipid phenotypes. Validation of selected hypotheses in additional samples did not identify any new loci underlying variability in blood lipids. Lack of replication may be due to inadequate statistical power to detect modest quantitative trait locus effects (i.e., < 1% of trait variance explained) or reduced genomic coverage of the 100K array. GWAS in FHS using a denser genome-wide genotyping platform and a better-powered replication strategy may identify novel loci underlying blood lipids.

Dysfunction of lipid-metabolizing proteins is implicated in the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease. Single nucleotide polymorphisms in genes that encode sterol regulatory binding protein-la, adenosine triphosphate binding cassette-A1, hepatic lipase, lipoprotein lipase, and cholesteryl ester transfer protein were assessed as potential markers of disease susceptibility in a family-based study of 1,012 patients from 386 families. Association between single nucleotide polymorphisms and coronary artery disease was tested by the combined transmission disequilibrium test/sib transmission disequilibrium test and pedigree disequilibrium test. After Bonferroni's correction, the pedigree disequilibrium test demonstrated significant excess transmission (p < 0.0083) to affected patients of the hepatic lipase -514 T allele, which suggests that this may constitute a novel disease-susceptibility locus. L’hypertriglycéridémie (hyperTG) est une dyslipidémie fréquente, caractérisée par une augmentation de la concentration plasmatique en triglycérides (TG). L’hyperTG est considérée comme un facteur de risque indépendant de la maladie cardiovasculaire, particulièrement de la maladie coronarienne athérosclérotique. Plusieurs facteurs environnementaux et génétiques ont été associés avec l’hyperTG. Cependant, près de 90% des cas d’hyperTG primaire sont encore incomplètement caractérisés au niveau moléculaire. Dernièrement, la protéine GPIHBP1 (glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored high-density lipoprotein-binding protein 1), qui a un rôle clef dans le métabolisme des TG, a été associée à l’expression d’hyperTG sévère et rare chez l’humain. Ce mémoire présente les résultats de nos travaux qui ont été effectués afin d’identifier de nouvelles bases moléculaires associées à l’expression de l’hyperTG dans le locus du gène GPIHBP1. Nous avons observé que le polymorphisme GPIHBP1 g.-469G>A (rs72691625), dont la fréquence de l’allèle mineure a été évaluée à 19,6% dans notre échantillon, serait associé à l’expression d’hyperTG (TG ≥ 2mmol/L) dans une population canadienne-française. Ce polymorphisme est associé à un risque 1,67 fois plus grand d’exprimer une triglycéridémie ≥ 2mmol/L chez les porteurs hétérozygotes et 5,7 fois plus grand chez les porteurs homozygotes, comparativement aux non-porteurs. Ce risque d’hyperTG serait exacerbé par la présence concomitante d’une mutation hypertriglycéridémiante dans le gène codant pour la lipoprotéine lipase. La présence de ce polymorphisme serait particulièrement associée à l’expression de la dysbêtalipoprotéinémie familiale et de l’hypertriglycéridémie familiale endogène. GPIHBP1 g.-469G>A est le premier polymorphisme fréquent identifié dans le promoteur du gène à être associé avec l’expression d’hyperTG. GPIHBP1 émerge de plus en plus comme un gène candidat intéressant pour la recherche de nouvelles bases moléculaires pouvant expliquer certaines formes d’hyperTG primaire fréquente.

L’hyperchylomicronémie familiale est un trait monogénique caractérisé par un taux de triglycérides plasmatiques à jeun supérieur à 10 mmol/L (la normale étant de 1,7 mmol/L). L’hyperchylomicronémie familiale est le plus souvent causée par une déficience dans le gène LPL (pour lipoprotéine lipase). La déficience en lipoprotéine lipase (LPLD) est aussi associée à un risque élevé de pancréatite. La pancréatite en soi est reconnue comme un trait complexe génétique dont plusieurs gènes sont associés à sa susceptibilité. Étant donné l’expression variable de la pancréatite chez les patients LPLD, les résultats de ce mémoire présentent certains facteurs génétiques pouvant être responsables du risque de l’expression de la pancréatite aigüe récurrente chez les sujets LPLD. L’analyse par séquençage des régions codantes et promotrices des gènes CTRC (pour « Chymotrypsin C ») et SPINK1 (pour « Serine protease inhibitor Kazal type 1 ») a été effectuée chez 38 patients LPLD et 100 témoins. Ces deux gènes codent pour des protéines impliquées dans le métabolisme des protéases au niveau du pancréas et ont déjà été associés avec la pancréatite dans la littérature. Notre étude a permis d’identifier une combinaison de deux polymorphismes (CTRC-rs545634 et SPINK1-rs11319) associée significativement avec la récidive d’hospitalisations pour douleur abdominale sévère ou pour pancréatite aigüe récurrente chez les patients LPLD (p<0,001). Ces résultats suggèrent que le risque de récidive de pancréatite chez les patients LPLD peut être influencé par des variants dans des gènes de susceptibilité à la pancréatite. L’identification de biomarqueurs génétiques améliore la compréhension des mécanismes physiopathologiques de la pancréatite chez les patients LPLD ce qui, par conséquent, permet de mieux évaluer et caractériser les risques de pancréatite afin d'adapter un plan d'intervention préventif pour ces patients.

It is well known that raised plasma triglycerides (TG) are positively linked to the development of coronary heart disease. However, triglycerides circulate in a range of distinct lipoprotein subtractions and the relative atherogenicity of these subtractions is not clear. In this study, three fractions of triglyceride rich lipoprotein (TRL) were isolated from normolipidaemic males according to their differing Svedberg flotation (S-f) rates: chylomicron (CM, S-f > 400), very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL)-1 (S-f 60-400) and VLDL-2 (S-f 20-60). These fractions were incubated with THP-1 monocyte-derived macrophages for determination of cholesterol and TG accumulation, in the presence and absence of the lipoprotein lipase (LPL) inhibitor orlistat. Expression of LDL receptor related protein (LRP) and apolipoprotein B48 receptor (apoB48R) was also examined in both differentiating monocytes, and monocyte-derived macrophages, incubated with TRL. VLDL-I caused a significantly greater accumulation of TG within macrophages compared to VLDL-2. Binding studies also tended to show a greater preference for VLDL-1. No change in expression of LRP or apoB48R was observed in fully differentiated macrophages incubated with VLDL-1, VLDL-2 or CM, although a greater expression of LRP mRNA was observed in differentiating monocytes exposed to VLDL-1, compared to those incubated with CM or VLDL-2. TG loading in response to all three TRL fractions was blocked by orlistat, suggesting that it is likely that the major pathway for uptake of TG was hydrolysis by LPL. Calculations suggested that direct uptake of particles accounts for between 12 and 25% of total TAG uptake. In conclusion, THP monocyte-derived macrophages demonstrate a preference for VLDL-1, both through the LPL pathway and by direct uptake of whole particles. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ireland Ltd. Most of diurnal time is spent in a postprandial state due to successive meal intakes during the day. As long as the meals contain enough fat, a transient increase in triacylglycerolaemia and a change in lipoprotein pattern occurs. The extent and kinetics of such postprandial changes are highly variable and are modulated by numerous factors. This review focuses on factors affecting postprandial lipoprotein metabolism and genes, their variability and their relationship with intermediate phenotypes and risk of CHD. Postprandial lipoprotein metabolism is modulated by background dietary pattern as well as meal composition (fat amount and type, carbohydrate, protein, fibre, alcohol) and several lifestyle conditions (physical activity, tobacco use), physiological factors (age, gender, menopausal status) and pathological conditions (obesity, insulin resistance, diabetes mellitus). The roles of many genes have been explored in order to establish the possible implications of their variability in lipid metabolism and CHD risk. The postprandial lipid response has been shown to be modified by polymorphisms within the genes for apo A-I, A-IV, AN, E, B, C-I and C-III, lipoprotein lipase, hepatic lipase, fatty acid binding and transport proteins, microsomal trigyceride transfer protein and scavenger receptor class B type I. Overall, the variability in postprandial response is important and complex, and the interactions between nutrients or dietary or meal compositions and gene variants need further investigation. The extent of present knowledge and needs for future studies are discussed in light of ongoing developments in nutrigenetics.

Epidemiological evidence shows that a diet high in monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) but low in saturated fatty acids (SFA) is associated with reduced risk of CHD. The hypocholesterolaemic effect of MUFA is known but there has been little research on the effect of test meal MUFA and SFA composition on postprandial lipid metabolism. The present study investigated the effect of meals containing different proportions of MUFA and SFA on postprandial triacylglycerol and non-esterified fatty acid (NEFA) metabolism. Thirty healthy male volunteers consumed three meals containing equal amounts of fat (40 g), but different proportions of MUFA (12, 17 and 24% energy) in random order. Postprandial plasma triacylglycerol, apolipoprotein B-48, cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, glucose and insulin concentrations and lipoprotein lipase (EC 3.1.1.34) activity were not significantly different following the three meals which varied in their levels of SFA and MUFA. There was a significant difference in the postprandial NEFA response between meals. The incremental area under the curve of postprandial plasma NEFA concentrations was significantly (P = 0.03) lower following the high-MUFA meal. Regression analysis showed that the non-significant difference in fasting NEFA concentrations was the most important factor determining difference between meals, and that the test meal MUFA content had only a minor effect. In conclusion, varying the levels of MUFA and SFA in test meals has little or no effect on postprandial lipid metabolism.

Postprandial lipaemic responses to two test meals were investigated in 30 Northern (15 British and 15 Irish), and 30 Southern (Greeks from Crete) healthy male Europeans. The meals were a saturated fatty acid (SFA) meal, which resembled the fatty acid composition of an average UK diet, and a monounsaturated fatty acid (MUFA) meal in which the fat consisted of olive oil. Habitual diets of the two groups differed, with higher total fat, (P < 0.03) and MUFA (P < 0.0001) and lower polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) (P < 0.0001) intakes in Southern than Northern Europeans. Levels of total MUFA (P < 0.02) and oleic acid (P < 0.004) were also higher in adipose tissue of Southern in comparison to Northern Europeans. In both European groups there were no significant differences in postprandial triglyceride response between the two meal types, SFA or MUFA. However, Northern and Southern Europeans showed significant differences in their patterns of postprandial response in plasma triglycerides (P < 0.0001), apolipoprotein B-48 (P < 0.0001), NEFA (P < 0.0001), insulin (P < 0.0007), and factor VII activity (P-0.03). In the case of NEFA, areas under the response curve were higher following the SFA than the MUFA meal for both groups, (P < 0.003) and were greater in Southern than Northern Europeans (P < 0.002) and apo B-48 responses were lower (P < 0.005). Some of these differences may reflect differences in fasting levels since fasting apolipoprotein B-48 levels were lower (P < 0.01) and fasting NEFA (P < 0.02) and insulin (P < 0.005) were higher in the Southern than in the Northern Europeans. In addition, 9 h postprandial post-heparin lipoprotein lipase activity was lower in the Southern than in the Northern Europeans (P < 0.0006). This is the first report of differences in postprandial lipid, factor VII and insulin responses in Southern and Northern Europeans which may be of importance in explaining the different susceptibilities of these two populations to risk of coronary artery disease.

OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of altering meal frequency on postprandial lipaemia and associated parameters. DESIGN: A randomized open cross over study to examine the programming effects of altering meal frequency. A standard test meal was given on three occasions following: (i) the normal diet; (ii) a period of two weeks on a nibbling and (iii) a period of two weeks on a gorging diet. SETTING: Free living subjects associated with the University of Surrey. SUBJECTS: Eleven female volunteers (age 22 +/- 0.89 y) were recruited. INTERVENTIONS: The subjects were requested to consume the same foods on either a nibbling diet (12 meals per day) or a gorging diet (three meals per day) for a period of two weeks. The standard test meal containing 80 g fat, 63 g carbohydrate and 20 g protein was administered on the day prior to the dietary intervention and on the day following each period of intervention. MAJOR OUTCOME MEASURES: Fasting and postprandial blood samples were taken for the analysis of plasma triacylglycerol, non-esterified fatty acids, glucose, immunoreactive insulin, glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide levels (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide (GLP-1), fasting total, low density lipoprotein (LDL)- and high density lipoprotein (HDL)-cholesterol concentrations and postheparin lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity measurements. Plasma paracetamol was measured following administration of a 1.5 g paracetamol load with the meal as an index of gastric emptying. RESULTS: The compliance to the two dietary regimes was high and there were no significant differences between the nutrient intakes on the two intervention diets. There were no significant differences in fasting or postprandial plasma concentrations of triacylglycerol, non-esterified fatty acids, glucose, immunoreactive insulin, GIP and GLP-1 levels, in response to the standard test meal following the nibbling or gorging dietary regimes. There were no significant differences in fasting total or LDL-cholesterol concentrations, or in the 15 min postheparin lipoprotein lipase activity measurements. There was a significant increase in HDL-cholesterol in the subjects following the gorging diet compared to the nibbling diet. DISCUSSION: The results suggest that previous meal frequency for a period of two weeks in young healthy women does not alter the fasting or postprandial lipid or hormonal response to a standard high fat meal. CONCLUSIONS: The findings of this study did not confirm the previous studies which suggested that nibbling is beneficial in reducing the concentrations of lipid and hormones. The rigorous control of diet content and composition in the present study compared with others, suggest reported effects of meal frequency may be due to unintentional alteration in nutrient and energy intake in previous studies.

Interest in effects of diet on postprandial lipoproteins has increased in recent years as a result of accumulating evidence for adverse cardiovascular consequences of elevated concentrations of triglyceride rich lipoproteins. Particular attention has been given to ability of different fatty acids to modulate postprandial lipoprotein responses because of evidence for both harmful and protective cardiovascular properties of the saturated, monounsaturated and ω-6 and ω-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) classes. Evidence for direct atherogenic properties of chylomicron remnants has led to attempts to monitor effects of diet specifically on this lipoprotein class. Limitations in the methods employed to measure chylomicron remnants and the small number of human studies which have evaluated effects of meal, and background diet, fatty acid composition, makes it difficult to draw definitive conclusions at the present time. However consideration of data from both animal and human studies tends to support the conclusion that diets, and meals, rich in PUFA (particularly long chain ω-3 PUFA), result in attenuated postprandial responses of the intestinally-derived lipoproteins. Attenuated responses to high PUFA meals appear to be due to greater rates of clearance and greater activation of lipoprotein lipase (LPL). Attenuated responses to high PUFA background diets may be due to adaptive changes involving both accelerated rates of clearance in peripheral tissues and liver, as well as decreased output of the competitor for chylomicron clearance, very low density lipoprotein (VLDL).

Microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP) is a protein that exerts a central regulatory role in very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) assembly and secretion. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effects of all exercise-training program oil hepatic content of MTP and its relation to hepatic VLDL-triglyceride (VLDL-TG) production in response to lipid infusion. Female rats either fed a standard (SD) or all obesity-induced high-fat (HF; 43% as energy) diet for 8 weeks were Subdivided into sedentary (Sed) and trained (Tr) groups. Exercise training consisted Of Continuous running on a motor-driven rodent treadmill 5 times/week for 8 weeks. At the end of this period, all rats in the fasted state were intravenously infused with a 20% Solution of intralipid for 3 h followed by all injection of Triton WR1339 to block lipoprotein lipase. An additional control grout) consisting of Sed rats fed the SD diet was infused with saline (0.9% NaCl). Plasma TG accumulation was thereafter measured during 90 min to estimate VLDL-TG production. Under HF diet, hepatic MTP content and plasma TG accumulation after Triton blockade (thus reflecting VLDL-TG synthesis and secretion) were not changed in Sed rats, whereas liver TG content was highly increased (similar to 90%; p<0.01). Oil the other hand, training reduced liver MTP protein content in both SD(-18%) and HF(-23%) fed rats(p<0.05). Plasma VLDL-TG accumulation was also lower (p<0.05) in Tr than in Sed rats fed the HF diet. This effect was not observed in SD fed rats. Furthermore, the exercise training-induced decrease in VLDL-TG production in HF rats was associated with a decrease in liver TG levels. It is Concluded that in addition to a reduction in liver TG content, exercise training reduces VLDL synthesis and/or secretion in HF fed rats probably via MTP regulation.

The aim of the study was to verify whether post-menopausal hormone replacement therapy (HRT) modifies autoantibody titers against oxidized low-density lipoprotein (LDL) (anti-LDLoxi), against epitopes of oxidized apolipoprotein B100 and common carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) in these women. Sixty-eight women in pre-menopause (PMW) and 216 in post-menopause (POMW) were recruited; eighty-three had undergone HRT for at least 12 months, where 48 received conjugated estrogens alone (EHRT) and 35 received conjugated estrogen and medroxyprogesterone acetate (CHRT). ELISA was used to determine autoantibodies. Lipoprotein lipase (LPL), hepatic lipase (HL), cholesterol ester transfer protein (CETP) and phospholipid transfer protein (PLTP) activities were assayed by radiometric methods. IMT was measured using Doppler ultrasound. Anti-oxidized LDL and anti-D antibodies increased by 40% (p <= 0.003) and 42% (p <= 0.006), respectively, with menopause. There was a surprising and significant 7% reduction in anti-D2 antibody titers with HRT (p <= 0.050), indicating a positive effect of treatment on the immune response to oxidized LDL. Combined HRT decreased activities of HL and LPL. HRT did not change common carotid IMT, which was increased by 32% as expected after menopause (p <= 0.030). This study describes, for the first time, the protective effect of HRT on decreasing autoantibody titers against oxidized apolipoprotein B in LDL.
