The use of social media as a communication tool is rapidly growing in the community, and more specifically in patients, through illness blogs. This has been true for several years in North America, but is becoming a reality in Europe as well. We report here the first results of studies on the putative psychological benefits and risks of illness blogs for their authors. We also explore the possible impact of blogging on the patient-caregiver relationship. Social media are expected to have a growing influence in certain areas of health care. Physicians should therefore stay informed about them, take advantage of their benefits, and anticipate their risks.

Aquest treball busca analitzar com poden emprar-se els mitjans digitals per contribuir a la gestió de la Reputació Corporativa, per ajudar a la comprensió del fenomen i a abordar-la en la pràctica des dels marcs de referència desenvolupats i validats en l'acadèmia. En primer lloc, s'empra una metodologia qualitativa i una anàlisi de continguts per analitzar els principals mitjans digitals –Webs, Blogs, Facebook i Twitter- en funció del seu potencial per a la generació de diàleg entre les organitzacions i els seus grups d'interès. S'analitzen a profunditat els mitjans digitals de 5 companyies Top 20 en el Rànquing RepTrak 2012. En segon lloc, es planteja una anàlisi d'aquests mitjans digitals en funció de les set dimensions que impulsen la Reputació Corporativa, seguint la metodologia RepTrak del Reputation Institute

La importancia de mecanismos de regulación de los propios aprendizajes por parte de los estudiantes, así como de la calidad de la retroalimentación y de la evaluación formativa por parte de los profesores está en las agendas internacionales de la calidad de la enseñanza superior. El uso de herramientas de lectura, escritura e interacción web 2.0 se enmarca claramente en ese propósito general. El artículo ofrece resultados de una investigación-acción interuniversitaria sobre la evaluación de competencias con blogs. Más concretamente, presenta tres escenarios formativos en los que el blog se utiliza como herramienta de evaluación reflexiva; indaga el grado en que el alumnado se hace consciente de su proceso de aprendizaje, cómo lo evidencia y cómo lo autorregula; y, finalmente, analiza el tipo de feed-back utilizado por el profesorado. Se presentan resultados del análisis documental tanto de las producciones llevadas a cabo en los blogs como del feed-back facilitado por el profesorado. Los resultados muestran el peso que tiene la calidad del feed-back que facilita el profesorado en el proceso de acompañamiento de construcción de competencias.

Open surgery is still the main treatment of complex abdominal aortic aneurysm. Nevertheless, this approach is associated with major complications and high mortality rate. Therefore the fenestrated endograft has been used to treat the juxtarenal aneurysms. Unfortunately, no randomised controlled study is available to assess the efficacy of such devices. Moreover, the costs are still prohibitive to generalise this approach. Alternative treatments such as chimney or sandwich technique are being evaluated in order to avoid theses disadvantages. The aim of this paper is to present the endovascular approach to treat juxtarenal aneurysm and to emphasize that this option should be used only by highly specialized vascular centres.

A clinical route is defined as a "set of methods and instruments to members of a multidisciplinary and Interprofessional team to agree on the tasks for a specific patient population. This is a program of care to ensure the provision of quality care and efficient realization". The University Hospital is not immune to this phenomenon. In the Department of the musculoskeletal system, a first project of this kind concerns the fracture of the proximal femur in the elderly.

The purpose of this paper is to describe the collaboration between librarians and scholars, from a virtual university, in order to facilitate collaborative learning on how to manage information resources. The personal information behaviour of e-learning students when managing information resources for academic, professional and daily life purposes was studied from 24 semi-structured face-to-face interviews. The results of the content analysis of the interview' transcriptions, highlighted that in the workplace and daily life contexts, competent information behaviour is always linked to a proactive attitude, that is to say, that participants seek for information without some extrinsic reward or avoiding punishment. In the academic context, it was observed a low level of information literacy and it seems to be related with a prevalent uninvolved attitude.

The main objective of this study is to find out why people buy luxury brands and which factors influence their decisions. The elements of luxury brands as well as motivation, culture and self-concept is researched as being the main factors behind luxury consumption. It was important to conduct this study because the luxury market is growing with a fast pace and it has hardly been research before. This study was conducted as a qualitative research. Theoretical part is based on the literature and on researches conducted before about the matter. Purposeful sampling method was used in empirical part by interviewing designers Jukka Rintala and Hanna Sarén as well as consumers of luxury brands, who work in the fashion industry. Two different viewpoints were chosen in order to research if designers’ and consumers’ thoughts differed. This study shows that the elements of luxury brands are deemed pretty much the same all around the world and also between the designers and consumers interviewed. Exclusivity referring to unique design and “hard to get” as well as good quality meaning superior materials, were mentioned as the most important elements of luxury brands. According to this study motivation behind luxury consumption is to a great extent dependent on the culture where the luxuries are consumed. However, self-concept has the biggest effect on luxury consumption. This study shows that people in individualistic cultures buy luxuries because they want to. People tend to spoil themselves and show off, thus making them feel good when buying luxuries. However, uniqueness is appreciated. On contrast, in collectivistic cultures people buy luxuries because they have to. Social pressure is much greater in Eastern than in Western culture that being the reason wealth is expected show. This study shows that in some cases designers' and consumers' thoughts about luxury consumption differ. Especially, a big gap was found when talking about materialism behind luxury consumption. The designers did not believe it to be the reason behind luxury consumption where consumers strongly did.

Las nuevas titulaciones universitarias del EEES están diseñadas por competencias. El mejor escenario para evaluarlas lo constituyen las prácticas, cuando el alumnado responde a situaciones reales. Esta investigación analiza el uso de los blogs para la evaluación de las competencias en un entorno web 2.0. Para ello se han seguido cinco profesores y profesoras y 69 estudiantes de los estudios de Formación del profesorado que han utilizado dicho entorno 2.0 durante sus prácticas. Los logros y las dificultades del proceso se someten a discusión.

En este artículo se analizan siete blogs escritos por mujeres con cáncer de mama. En primer lugar, se indaga sobre su forma de concebir el cuerpo en relación, por un lado, al impacto del cáncer en los órganos y procesos corporales ligados a la feminidad y, por el otro, a su carácter mortal. En segundo lugar, se analiza su atribución de agencia en relación a la enfermedad y su curación. Se observa que la responsabilidad en la curación se atribuye principalmente a los médicos, pero aparece con fuerza la idea que la mujer se puede sanar mediante cambios en su estilo de vida y a través del pensamiento positivo. Este establece un marco en el que las afectadas de cáncer encuentran dificultades para reconocer y expresar aspectos considerados negativos del proceso como la rabia, la desesperación o el miedo a la muerte, al mismo tiempo que marca una distinción entre pacientes con trayectorias de éxito en su curación y los que no lo consiguen, que son culpabilizados.

This study presents mathematical methods for evaluation of retail performance with special regard to product sourcing strategies. Forecast accuracy, process lead time, offshore / local sourcing mix and up front / replenishment buying mix are defined as critical success factors in connection with sourcing seasonal products with a fashion content. As success measures, this research focuses on service level, lost sales, product substitute percentage, gross margin, gross margin return on inventory and mark down rate. The accuracy of demand forecast is found to be a fundamental success factor. Forecast accuracy depends on lead time. Lead times are traditionally long and buying decisions are made seven to eight months prior to the start of the selling season. Forecast errors cause stockouts and lost sales. Some of the products bought for the selling season will not be sold and have to be marked down and sold at clearance, causing loss of gross margin. Gross margin percentage is not the best tool for evaluating sourcing decisions and in the context of this study gross margin return on inventory, which combines profitability and assets management, is used. The findings of this research suggest that there are more profitable ways of sourcing products than buying them from low cost offshore sources. Mixing up front and inseason replenishment deliveries, especially when point of sale information is used for improving forecast accuracy, results in better retail performance. Quick Response and Vendor Managed Inventory strategies yield better results than traditional up front buying from offshore even if local purchase prices are higher. Blogs and other technology tools are commonly used in our society. Although we are familiar with the use of technology for social interaction, its application in the classroom environment is still not fully appreciated by the teaching community as a useful learning tool. This paper sheds light on this use by presenting the analysis of the comments posted on a blog used by undergraduate chemistry students for a scientific communication undergraduate course. On the course, students used the blog to ask questions and discuss assignments. All the comments were monitored by the professor and her teaching assistant, who also posted their comments. We analyzed the content of these comments using the model proposed by Henri and adapted by McKenzie and Murphy. The results show a predominance of administrative comments, followed by course content comments. The findings also indicated that this tool complements classroom discussions, supports the participation of students who would otherwise not take part, and allows a continuous learning process for all the students. We concluded that the use of blogs improved the classroom experience and supported the instructional classroom activities.
