Two-dimensional fluid model simulation of bell jar top inductively coupled plasma

In the present paper, argon (Ar) plasmas in a bell jar inductively coupled plasma (ICP) source are systematically studied over pressures from 5 to 20 mtorr and power inputs from 0.2 to 0.5 kW. In this study, both a two-dimensional (2-D) fluid model simulation and global model calculation are compared, The 2-D fluid model simulation with a self-consistent power deposition is developed to describe the Ar plasma behavior as well as predict the plasma parameter distributions, Finally, a quantitative comparison between the global model and the fluid model is made to test their validity.

A new method of studying the dynamical behavior of the sine-gordon equation

We try to connect the theory of infinite dimensional dynamical systems and nonlinear dynamical methods. The sine-Gordon equation is used to illustrate our method of discussing the dynamical behaviour of infinite dimensional systems. The results agree with those of Bishop and Flesch [SLAM J. Math. Anal. 21 (1990) 1511].

Entanglement purification with higher error threshold for imperfection of local operations and bell state measurements

We analyse further the entanglement purification protocol proposed by Feng et al. (Phys. Lett. A 271 (2000) 44) in the case of imperfect local operations and measurements. It is found that this protocol allows of higher error threshold. Compared with the standard entanglement purification proposed by Bennett et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 76 (1996) 722], it turns out that this protocol is remarkably robust against the influences of imperfect local operations and measurements.

Primeiro discutem-se as agências controladoras do corpo feminino na era vitoriana e a formação de um ideal de feminilidade que chamamos de Anjo do Lar. Em seguida, discute-se como Virginia Woolf apreende essa imagem e a subverte, criando seu duplo, que chamamos de Demônio do Lar. Por fim, promovemos o diálogo entre Sylvia Plath e Virginia Woolf. Plath parece escrever aos moldes de Woolf, criando uma literatura de morte, feita para assassinar o Anjo do Lar. Usamos para tal estudo o conceito de écriture féminine, criado pelas francófonas Hélène Cixous, Luce Irigaray, e Julia Kristeva, entre outras, para traçar os paralelos entre um lugar para o feminino na escrita e a busca de uma tradição por Woolf. New doubly periodic waves of the (2+1)-dimensional double sine-Gordon equation

New exact solutions of the (2 + 1)-dimensional double sine-Gordon equation are studied by introducing the modified mapping relations between the cubic nonlinear Klein-Gordon system and double sine-Gordon equation. Two arbitrary functions are included into the Jacobi elliptic function solutions. New doubly periodic wave solutions are obtained and displayed graphically by proper selections of the arbitrary functions.

A survey of deep-water coral and sponge habitats along the west coast of the US using a remotely operated vehicle: NOAA Fisheries Survey Vessel (FSV)'Bell M. Shimada', November 1-5, 2010

Remotely operated vehicle (ROV) surveys were conducted from NOAA’s state-of-the-art Fisheries Survey Vessel (FSV) Bell M. Shimada during a six-day transit November 1-5, 2010 between San Diego, CA and Seattle, WA. The objective of this survey was to locate and characterize deep-sea coral and sponge ecosystems at several recommended sites in support of NOAA’s Coral Reef Conservation Program. Deep-sea corals and sponges were photographed and collected whenever possible using the Southwest Fisheries Science Center’s (SWFSC) Phantom ROV ‘Sebastes’ (Fig. 1). The surveyed sites were recommended by National Marine Sanctuary (NMS) scientists at Monterey Bay NMS, Gulf of the Farallones NMS, and Olympic Coast NMS (Fig. 2). The specific sites were: Sur Canyon, The Football, Coquille Bank, and Olympic Coast NMS. During each dive, the ROV collected digital still images, video, navigation, and along-track conductivity-temperature-depth (CTD), and optode data. Video and high-resolution photographs were used to quantify abundance of corals, sponges, and associated fishes and invertebrates to the lowest practicable taxonomic level, and also to classify the seabed by substrate type. A reference laser system was used to quantify area searched and estimate the density of benthic fauna.

Portunus pulchricristatus (Gordon, 1931): an addition to crab fauna of Pakistan (northern Arabian Sea)

Portunus pulchricristatus (Gordon, 1931) is a rare species, to date we have obtained only three specimens, two males and a berried female which can be easily identified with the help of existing descriptions and illustrations. Brief account of the Pakistan material is given below. One male specimen (measuring 11.0 mm in carapace length) has been deposited in the National Museum of Natural History, Leiden (Reg.No.D.42393) the other two specimens housed in the Marine Reference Collection and Resource Centre (MRCC Cat. No.BRAC.491). The abbreviations used are cl. for carapace length and cb. for carapace breadth.

Recovery of a leucosid crab Nursia abbreviata Bell, 1855 from Arabian Sea fish

On two occasions Nursia abbreviata Bell, 1855 has been recovered from the stomachs of Batrochus grunniens (Linnaeus, 1758) caught with commercial fish. Nursia abbreviata has been previously recorded from Karachi by Alcock (1896). The present specimens afford the first subsequent record of the species from the region, and are represented by only two males recovered from fish stomachs. The only other species of the genus from Pakistan is N. Rubifera Muller, 1866 which is common in shore collections (Tirmizi and Kazmi, 1988). Local transformation of mixed states of two qubits to Bell diagonal states

The optimal entanglement manipulation for a single copy of mixed states of two qubits is to transform it to a Bell diagonal state. In this paper we derive an explicit form of the local operation that can realize such a transformation. The result obtained is universal for arbitrary entangled two-qubit states and it discloses that the corresponding local filter is not unique for density matrices with rank n = 2 and can be exclusively determined for that with n = 3 and 4. As illustrations, a four-parameter family of mixed states are explored, the local filter as well as the transformation probability are given explicitly, which verify the validity of the general result.
