Notre recherche a pour but de mieux comprendre les comportements de citoyenneté organisationnelle et plus particulièrement ce qui peut les favoriser ou les défavoriser. Nous en avons retenu cinq pour notre recherche: les comportements de vertu civique, d’esprit d’équipe, conformistes, de courtoisie et d’altruisme Nous avons choisi d’étudier l’influence des valeurs au travail sur ces comportements et notre objectif est de vérifier l’influence de 28 valeurs au travail sur nos cinq comportements de citoyenneté organisationnelle. Par ailleurs, nous avons choisi d’inclure à notre modèle de recherche la variable des générations. Nous cherchons à savoir si les valeurs au travail peuvent changer en fonction de l’appartenance d’un individu à l’une des 4 générations présentes sur le marché du travail (Vétérans, Baby Boomers, X et Y) et si le fait d’appartenir à une géné-ration plutôt qu’une autre aura un impact sur les comportements de citoyenneté organisationnelle. Les données ont été collectées au sein de la firme de sondage l’Observateur. Au total, 278 questionnaires sont utilisables dans le cadre de notre recherche. Des analyses de régression hiérarchiques ont permis de vérifier la capacité explicative des valeurs sur les comportements de citoyenneté organisationnelle. Des tests post hoc de Scheffé ont permis de vérifier l’existence de différences de valeurs entre les générations et des analyses de variance nous ont permis de vérifier l’influence des générations sur les comportements de citoyenneté organisationnelle. Les résultats indiquent que des liens significatifs existent entre les valeurs et les comportements de citoyenneté organisationnelle permettant ainsi de confirmer l’influence favorable ou défavorable de certaines valeurs parmi les 28 à l’étude sur nos cinq comportements de citoyenneté organisationnelle. En ce qui a trait aux différences existan-tes entre nos générations à l’étude, les résultats nous révèlent qu’elles sont beaucoup moins importantes que ce que la littérature nous laisse penser. Finalement, nos résultats ne nous permettent pas de confirmer que certaines générations sont plus disposées que d’autres à adopter des comportements de citoyenneté organisationnelle. Avec la vague des départs à la retraite amorcée par la génération des baby-boomers, le marché du travail canadien traversera inéluctablement une période de transition. Le vide laissé par ces départs obligera de nombreuses industries à réajuster leur tir afin de ne pas être secouées par de trop fortes turbulences. À cet effet, l’impact des retraites n’aura pas la même ampleur pour chacune des branches d’activité. S’appuyant sur les données longitudinales de l’Enquête sur la dynamique du travail et du revenu de 1993 à 2010, cette recherche analyse les tendances au fil du temps et entre les industries en regard des départs d’emploi de carrière. Une attention particulière est aussi portée aux emplois de transition selon le secteur d’activité, afin de déterminer si cette pratique peut amoindrir les répercussions des départs d’emploi de carrière. Les résultats montrent que l’intensité des départs d’emploi de carrière s’accroit au cours de la période considérée et que d’importantes variations existent entre les travailleurs des diverses catégories d’industries examinées. L’industrie des services professionnels, scientifiques et techniques affiche la plus faible proportion de travailleurs ayant quitté un emploi de carrière (26 %). À l’autre extrémité du spectre, les travailleurs du secteur de l’hébergement et des services de restauration présentent la plus forte probabilité d’effectuer un départ d’emploi de carrière (47 %). Au chapitre des emplois de transition, les travailleurs en provenance l’industrie de la construction montrent la plus forte propension à oeuvrer au sein d’un tel type d’emploi. Si certaines industries se démarquent des autres, cela s’explique surtout en raison du comportement différentiel des travailleurs les plus âgés (55 à 64 ans).

El interés de este estudio de caso es entender la incidencia de los problemas demográficos de Japón sobre las políticas concernientes al Sistema de Seguridad Social Japonés, así como la viabilidad de estas políticas ante la muy difícil situación que existe. Observando cómo los problemas demográficos han afectado el Sistema de Seguridad Social por medio de estudios demográficos del pasado y actuales, además de proyecciones poblacionales a futuro, para así poder comparar los mecanismos implementadas por el Gobierno Japonés y los resultados obtenidos con las necesidades reales del Sistema de Seguridad Social Japonés, abriendo la posibilidad de entender profundamente las debilidades y las posibles soluciones al problema que enfrenta este sistema.

This paper constructs a housing market model to analyse conditions for different generations of households in the UK. Previous policy work has suggested that baby-boomers have benefitted at the expense of younger generations. The model relies on a form of financial accelerator in which existing homeowners reinvest a proportion of the capital gains on moving home. The model is extended to look at homeownership probabilities. It also explains why an increasing share of mortgages has gone to existing owners, despite market liberalisation and securitisation. In addition, the model contributes to the explanation of volatility.

Baby boomers and elderly care: expectations in print media about a new kind of care users The Swedish baby boomer generation – known as the forties generation – has been characterized as youthful and powerful. At present, members of this generation are entering the category of old age and in about ten years they will start reaching ages where the likelihood of encountering elderly care increases significantly. The present study reports on how this expected meeting has been discussed in Swedish newspapers. Data consisted of 481 articles during the period 1995–2012 and was analyzed through qualitative content analysis. Results show that the generation was predicted to become a new type of demanding and self-conscious care users. Claims were backed by descriptions of formative events and typical characteristics that were projected onto a future as care user. Such projections tended to portray care users of present time as passive and submissive, and partly responsible for problems associated with elderly care

There was something about opening any leather bound edition of anything and being transported by the smell to some distant land, not unlike Charles Swann in Marcel Proust’s famous French novel, A La Recherché du Temps Perdu, Remembrance of Things Past.

Durante o século passado, a motivação para o trabalho foi intensamente estudada e as teorias produzidas a seu respeito evoluíram significativamente. Mais recentemente, o significado do trabalho vem ganhando importância na literatura como uma fonte de motivação para as pessoas. É um constructo interpretado como profundamente pessoal e dinâmico, que recebe influências geradas pelo meio ambiente no qual as pessoas vivem e trabalham. Assim, o significado do trabalho pode ser distinto para diferentes gerações. A atual pesquisa objetivou identificar o significado do trabalho para os funcionários do Banco Central do Brasil em sua Regional no Rio de Janeiro, de acordo com a geração a que pertencem: a Geração Baby Boomer e a Geração X. As bases científicas para a pesquisa foram estabelecidas na literatura sobre motivação para o trabalho, significado do trabalho e Geração Baby Boomers e Geração X. As informações sobre o significado do trabalho foram obtidas por melO de um questionário baseado no modelo proposto pelo Meaning of Working - MOW (1987). Os resultados obtidos indicam que o significado do trabalho é diferentemente percebido pelas duas gerações na maioria de seus aspectos: centralidade do trabalho, normas sociais associadas ao trabalho, resultados valorizados do trabalho e identificação dos papéis do trabalho.

Este artigo tem como objetivo central apresentar resultados de estudo destinado a investigar as principais questões e desafios em torno da temática da liderança e seu desenvolvimento, na contemporaneidade, segundo a perspectiva de altos executivos de grandes empresas brasileiras. Considerando tal propósito, seus objetivos específicos podem ser assim descritos: 1. investigar sentidos atribuídos e estilos de liderança articulados à vivência e prática dos executivos investigados; 2. investigar temas-chave ao desenvolvimento de lideranças no atual contexto dos negócios e das organizações; 3. identificar tendências, novos temas e desafios em torno da temática da liderança, no contemporâneo. Como referencial teórico cabe salientar revisão de literatura envolvendo descrição evolutiva dos estudos sobre a temática, com destaque para as principais correntes e abordagens teórico-metodológico-conceituais. Em termos metodológicos, a pesquisa que subsidiou os resultados deste estudo pode ser caracterizada como de natureza qualitativa e caráter descritivo, tendo seus dados primários derivados de entrevistas semiestruturadas e em profundidade realizadas com 13 altos executivos de grandes corporações, nacionais e internacionais, situadas nos estados de São Paulo e Minas Gerais. Após tratamento dos dados, com o auxílio do software de tratamento qualitativo NVivo 8, foi possível agrupar os principais temas e desafios identificados em torno da liderança em três temas-chave: Sentidos, Competências, Estilos e Desafios associados à Liderança no Contemporâneo; Desenvolvimento de Lideranças; Liderança e Contexto Capacitante. O estudo possibilitou, também, identificar atributos de competência e estilos de liderança requeridos como respostas ao atual contexto dos negócios e das organizações, segundo a perspectiva dos executivos entrevistados. Concomitantemente, foi possível constatar novos desafios e preocupações em relação à temática da liderança, como, por exemplo, lidar com as novas gerações - em especial a chamada Geração Y - que, em breve, deverão assumir posições-chave nas organizações, em decorrência da aposentadoria dos Baby Boomers. Em suma, os achados permitem, a partir da perspectiva dos próprios atores diretamente envolvidos na problemática da liderança, no contexto empresarial, a emergência de questões e desafios a serem contemplados em novas agendas de desenvolvimento e linhas de pesquisa sobre o tema.

Until relatively recently, most psychologists have had limited professional involvement with older adults. With the baby boomers starting to turn 65 years old in 2011, sheer numbers of older adults will continue to increase. About 1 in 5 older adults has a mental disorder, such as dementia. Their needs for mental and behavioral health services are not now adequately met, and the decade ahead will require an approximate doubling of the current level of psychologists' time with older adults. Public policy in the coming decade will face tensions between cost containment and facilitation of integrated models of care. Most older adults who access mental health services do so in primary care settings, where interdisciplinary, collaborative models of care have been found to be quite effective. To meet the needs of the aging population, psychologists need to increase awareness of competencies for geropsychology practice and knowledge regarding dementia diagnosis, screening, and services. Opportunities for psychological practice are anticipated to grow in primary care, dementia and family caregiving services, decision-making-capacity evaluation, and end-of-life care. Aging is an aspect of diversity that can be integrated into psychology education across levels of training. Policy advocacy for geropsychology clinical services, education, and research remains critical. Psychologists have much to offer an aging society

This research examines what people want in terms of family-friendly employment policies within the workplace. Two groups were compared: undergraduate students preparing themselves for the workforce and Baby Boomers that are about to, or already have, retired. The sample was chosen from current University of Connecticut fourth year students and alumni who graduated from the University of Connecticut between 1970 and 1978. Data was collected using an online questionnaire, mainly consisting of closed-ended questions on four and five point Likert scales. Analysis indicates differences between males and females in their response to employment policies, particularly their opinions in terms of sick leave. Alumni, many of whom are part of the sandwich generation, are less worried about child, partner, or elder care responsibilities than one might expect.

Over the last 2 decades, survival rates in critically ill cancer patients have improved. Despite the increase in survival, the intensive care unit (ICU) continues to be a location where end-of-life care takes place. More than 20% of deaths in the United States occur after admission to an ICU, and as baby boomers reach the seventh and eighth decades of their lives, the volume of patients in the ICU is predicted to rise. The aim of this study was to evaluate intensive care unit utilization among patients with cancer who were at the end of life. End of life was defined using decedent and high-risk cohort study designs. The decedent study evaluated characteristics and ICU utilization during the terminal hospital stay among patients who died at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center during 2003-2007. The high-risk cohort study evaluated characteristics and ICU utilization during the index hospital stay among patients admitted to MD Anderson during 2003-2007 with a high risk of in-hospital mortality. Factors associated with higher ICU utilization in the decedent study included non-local residence, hematologic and non-metastatic solid tumor malignancies, malignancy diagnosed within 2 months, and elective admission to surgical or pediatric services. Having a palliative care consultation on admission was associated with dying in the hospital without ICU services. In the cohort of patients with high risk of in-hospital mortality, patients who went to the ICU were more likely to be younger, male, with newly diagnosed non-metastatic solid tumor or hematologic malignancy, and admitted from the emergency center to one of the surgical services. A palliative care consultation on admission was associated with a decreased likelihood of having an ICU stay. There were no differences in ethnicity, marital status, comorbidities, or insurance status between patients who did and did not utilize ICU services. Inpatient mortality probability models developed for the general population are inadequate in predicting in-hospital mortality for patients with cancer. The following characteristics that differed between the decedent study and high-risk cohort study can be considered in future research to predict risk of in-hospital mortality for patients with cancer: ethnicity, type and stage of malignancy, time since diagnosis, and having advance directives. Identifying those at risk can precipitate discussions in advance to ensure care remains appropriate and in accordance with the wishes of the patient and family.^

The Millennial generation is the largest generation to enter into the workforce. They are entering while older generations are still working. Previous generations in the workforce include Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, and Gen X. Millennials' have different expectations from past generations, particularly since they were born using technology as part of their daily lives. The recruiting approach to attract Millennials needs to be different from old traditional methods. Employers must recruit creatively by connecting to Millennials through Internet and technological tools all hours of the day. The use of social networks, virtual job fairs, and email campaigns are just a few ways to recruit the Millennials since they are the future of employment.

Long term care (LTC) is both costly and of increasing concern as baby boomers age and more people live longer with chronic conditions. Today, people receive formal and informal LTC supports in homes, nursing homes, and alternative settings around the world. Where people live and the way LTC is delivered has an important impact on whether person’s receiving care thrive as they age. This paper is about how different LTC environments in the U.S. and The Netherlands foster or impede social connectivity, suggesting that quality of life will be impeded and types of social death, or disconnection from social life, more often the result in environments that limit choice and self determination, limit access to privacy and social connection, and limit access to reciprocal exchanges, a key component of participating in relationships typical of the concept of “the gift” introduced by anthropologist Marcel Mauss in 1954. Building on ethnographic data from a 15-month study of LTC in The Netherlands and a review of staffing practices in LTC environments in the U.S. and The Netherlands, I will explore concepts of reciprocity and social connectivity impacted by various LTC environments in two countries known to experiment with different models of care. This research builds on social constructivist notions of death and dying explored throughout this edited volume and adds to this effort examination of social death in anthropological perspective.

Now that baby boomers are older and pursuing more career-oriented jobs, managers of the hospitality industry are experiencing the effects of the pre- sent labor crisis; they now know that those vacant hourly jobs are going to be tough to fill with quality personnel. The companies able to attract quality personnel by offering employees what they need and want will be the successful ones in the next decade. The authors explain how the labor crisis is currently affecting the hospitality industry and make suggestions about how firms may survive the "labor crash” of the 1990s with the application of marketing technology to human resource management.
