H → Zr in the complex two Higgs doublet model

The latest LHC data confirmed the existence of a Higgs-like particle and made interesting measurements on its decays into gamma gamma, ZZ*, WW*, tau(+)tau(-), and b (b) over bar. It is expected that a decay into Z gamma might be measured at the next LHC round, for which there already exists an upper bound. The Higgs-like particle could be a mixture of scalar with a relatively large component of pseudoscalar. We compute the decay of such a mixed state into Z gamma, and we study its properties in the context of the complex two Higgs doublet model, analysing the effect of the current measurements on the four versions of this model. We show that a measurement of the h -> Z gamma rate at a level consistent with the SM can be used to place interesting constraints on the pseudoscalar component. We also comment on the issue of a wrong sign Yukawa coupling for the bottom in Type II models.

Contribuição da detecção remota para a prospecção de jazigos de Sn, W e Au na região de Góis

A presente dissertação pretende utilizar técnicas de detecção remota como ferramenta na prospecção de jazigos de estanho, volfrâmio e ouro em Portugal Continental. O facto de ser relativamente comum a coexistência de mineralizações estano-volframíticas com mineralizações auro-argentíferas nas regiões centro e norte de Portugal, associado à importância estratégica e económica destes metais, tanto a nível nacional, como europeu, faz destas regiões um dos mais apetecíveis alvos para a prospecção e exploração mineira em Portugal. No contexto português, as ferramentas de detecção remota têm vindo a ser aplicadas com alguma regularidade e nas mais diversas temáticas das Geociências. Contudo, exceptuando alguns trabalhos, principalmente dos anos oitenta e noventa, são escassos os casos conhecidos da aplicação específica da detecção remota na prospecção de recursos minerais metálicos em Portugal. Assim, através da utilização de critérios de fotointerpretação, da aplicação de técnicas de processamento digital a imagens de satélite, assim como da integração dos resultados obtidos com dados de cartografia geológica, de altimetria e geofísicos, pretende-se a selecção de zonas potencialmente relacionadas com a ocorrência dos referidos metais na região de Góis-Castanheira de Pêra. A selecção das zonas potenciais tem como objectivo a escolha de alvos para posterior estudo em pormenor, cujo alcance já não é abrangido pelo âmbito desta dissertação. Para além da aplicação das técnicas de detecção remota e da integração de diferentes fontes de informação em ambiente SIG, foram realizados trabalhos de campo com o intuito de permitir a validação preliminar dos resultados obtidos.

Vaporization behaviour and some thermodynamic properties of the Pd-In, Pd-Pb, Pd-Sn systems

In this study, the vaporization behaviour of solid Pd-rich phases in the Pd-Pb, Pd-In and Pd-Sn systems was investigated by Knudsen-effusion-cell coupled with mass-spectrometry. The Pb, Pd, In vapor pressures [no Sn(g) has been detected in the vapor of Pd-Sn system] were evaluated in the temperatures range 1190-1563 K from the ion intensities measured over two-phases regions. Thermodynamic quantities were derived from vapor pressure data. In particular, for the Pd-Sn binary, the intermediate phase Pd7Sn2, the existence of which has been recently proposed, has been studied here for the first time. Furthermore, preliminary thermochemical data are presented for the diatomic intermetallic molecules PdSn and PdPb, which have been for the first time identified in the vapors in equilibrium over liquid solutions of appropriate composition at higher temperatures (1935-2025 K). Heat capacity measurements by differential scanning calorimetry in the Pd-Pb, Pd-Sn and Pd-ln systems

Molar heat capacities at constant pressure of six solid solutions and 11 intermediate phases in the Pd-Pb, Pd-Sn and Pd-In systems were determined each 10 K by differential scanning calorimetry from 310 to 1000 K, The experimental values have been fitted by polynomials C-p = a + bT + cT(2) + d/T-2. Martensitic transitions and the nature of ferromagnetism in the austenitic and martensitic states of Ni-Mn-Sn alloys

Structural and magnetic transformations in the Heusler-based system Ni0.50Mn0.50¿xSnx are studied by x-ray diffraction, optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and magnetization. The structural transformations are of austenitic-martensitic character. The austenite state has an L21 structure, whereas the structures of the martensite can be 10M , 14M , or L10 depending on the Sn composition. For samples that undergo martensitic transformations below and around room temperature, it is observed that the magnetic exchange in both parent and product phases is ferromagnetic, but the ferromagnetic exchange, characteristic of each phase, is found to be of different strength. This gives rise to different Curie temperatures for the austenitic and martensitic states.
