Consanguinidade e efeito fundador da muta��ão G377S da doença de Gaucher em popula��ão de Tabuleiro do Norte – Ceará – Brasil

Gaucher’s disease (GD) is caused by a β-glucocerebrosidase deficiency, leading to the accumulation of glucocerebroside in the reticuloendothelial system. The prevalence of GD in Tabuleiro do Norte (TN) (1:4000) is the highest in Brazil. The purpose of this study was to present evidence of consanguinity and founder effect for the G377S mutation (c.1246G>A) among GD patients in TN based on enzyme, molecular and genealogical studies. Between March 2009 and December 2010, 131 subjects at risk for GD (GC in dried blood ≤2.19 nmol/h/ml) and 5 confirmed GD patients from the same community were submitted for molecular analysis to characterize the genetic profile of the population. Based on the enzymatic and molecular analysis, the subjects were classified into three categories: affected (n=5), carrier (n=20) and non-carrier (n=111). All carriers were (G377S/wt). Affected subjects were homozygous (G377S/G377S). The identification of a single mutation in carriers and homozygotes from different generations, the history of the community and the genealogy study suggest that the high prevalence of GD in this population may be due to a combination of consanguinity and founder effect for the G377S mutation

"Lancea", Lusitanian Word, and the "Lancienses" Ethnogenesis

Analysis of the word lancea, of Hispanic origin after Varro, and of place names, people´s names and personal names derived from it. It confirms that the spear was the most important weapon in the Bronze Age, belonging to the iuventus and used as heroic and divine symbol. This analysis confirms also the personality of the Lusitanians, a people related to the Celts but with more archaic archaeological, linguistic and cultural characteristics originated in the tradition of the Atlantic Bronze in the II millennium BC. It is also relevant to better know the organisation of Broze and Iron Age societies and the origin of Indo-Europeans peoples in Western Europe and of pre-Roman peoples of Iberia.

Preliminary results of the roman camp of La Cabeza del Cid (Hinojosa, Guadalajara, Spain)

The recent archaeological works in Hinojosa, allowed us to discover a camp from Roman republic period. It is located in the center of the Celtiberian area and its study could open interesting perspectives to study this historical period. This paper shows the results of its preliminary studies.

"Sub Tiberio quies"? Judaea���s Political Situation under the Prefects (6-41 c.e.), between Reality and Ideology

Deeply conflicting views on the political situation of Judaea under the Roman prefects (6-41 c.e.) have been offered. According to some scholars, this was a period of persistent political unrest and agitation, whilst according to a widespread view it was a quiescent period of political calm (reflected in Tacitus’ phrase sub Tiberio quies). The present article critically examines again the main available sources –particularly Josephus, the canonical Gospels and Tacitus– in order to offer a more reliable historical reconstruction. The conclusions drawn by this survey calls into question some widespread and insufficiently nuanced views on the period. This, in turn, allows a reflection on the non-epistemic factors which might contribute to explain the origin of such views.

Cuatro hechos estilizados de las series de rendimientos: Una ilustración para Colombia

En este documento empleamos las series de la Tasa de Cambio Representativa de Mercado y el Índice General de la Bolsa Colombia para ilustrar cuatro hechos estilizados muy conocidos en la literatura financiera: i) las series de precios siguen un camino aleatorio, ii) la distribuci��n de los rendimientos es leptocúrtica y exhibe colas pesadas, iii) a medida que se calculan los rendimientos para períodos más amplios su distribuci��n se acerca más a la distribuci��n normal, y iv) los rendimientos presentan volatilidad agrupada (volatility clustering).

Caso de estudio. Privilege

Privilege, es la marca con la que la familia Jaramillo se lanzó al mercado caleño, ofreciendo ropa sobre medida y talla para hombres y mujeres, con altos estándares de calidad, servicio personalizado y diseños de moda; su portafolio de productos incluye ropa formal y casual para ejecutivos(as). Esta marca, pese a no tener competidores directos, sí observaba que algunas marcas y diseñadores exclusivos se encontraban dentro del grupo de consideración de los consumidores objetivo de Privilege. La gerencia de la compa��ía enfrenta costos fijos elevados (ocupación de maquinaria al 50%) que afectan la rentabilidad; un nuevo punto de venta que presenta promedio de ingresos inferiores a los necesarios para su autosostenibilidad; bajo reconocimiento de marca por parte del target, competidores con gran músculo financiero y marcas altamente reconocidas con trayectoria y precios competitivos.
