L'histoire du jugement de Dieu sur Ananias et Saphira (Ac 5.1-11) compte parmi les épisodes les plus pathétiques du livre des Actes. L'art lucanien de la dramatisation atteint ici un sommet. La fin tragique d'Ananias foudroyé par la parole dénonciatrice de Pierre, son enterrement hâtif, puis la venue de Saphira ignorante du drame, son mensonge public suivi de sa mort annoncée sur un ton d'humour noir (5.9b): l'effet pragmatique cherché par le narrateur est programmé par le scénario; il s'inscrit aussi dans le texte lui-même: 'un grand effroi saisit ceux qui l'entendaient' (5.5, 11). L'histoire est destinée à provoquer la crainte.

Política pública en Francia: prohibición general o parcial del velo integral en el territorio nacional: Proyecto de ley del martes 11 de mayo de 2010

La República francesa se ofende por los burkas y de los niqab deambulando por las calles. Ve a sus principios rectores de Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité mofados, a su democracia desafiada, a su convivencia arriesgada. Por ello, el Gobierno francés ha impulsado desde hace un año una política pública que persigue la prohibición del velo integral -llámese burka o niqab- en el conjunto del espacio público. Años atrás, Francia, país que tanto aprecia los debates, se vio inmersa en la cuestión más general de la identidad nacional desde las reacciones de las banlieues en el 2005. Y por ello, Nicolas Sarkosy, en su programa electoral camino de las presidenciales en el 2007, ya incluía como una prioridad el tema de los valores y principios genuinamente franceses y europeos. Y en esta perspectiva, el Ministerio de Inmigración añadió sus calificativos de Integración e Identidad Nacional. El burka en el espacio público ha asaltado los medios de comunicación y la sociedad en su conjunto, especialmente desde hace dos o tres años. Es un problema sin precedentes en las democracias asentadas -aunque podríamos recordar el motín de Esquilache en 1766 bajo el reinado de Carlos III- sin una Jurisprudencia asentada al respecto, ni un marco normativo que lo prevea directamente. Y por ello, la élite política se divide estos días entre los prudentes y los atrevidos, los que se conforman con una prohibición parcial y los que persiguen una prohibición absoluta. Se trata de una política pública atípica, pues los bienes afectados son en realidad valores, principios y conceptos abstractos. Es la República francesa y la cohesión social los que se ven desafiados. Veremos en un primer momento, la etapa de identificación como problema público y su inclusión en la agenda política, por ende desde un punto de vista técnico, analizaremos brevemente esta política pública Top down limitada, y en el último apartado compararemos los argumentos de las dos alternativas que dispone actualmente el Parlamento para aprobar o no una ley al respecto. Por su parte, la Comisión Parlamentaria alegará principios de índole más filosófica que pragmática, mientras que el Consejo de Estado se centrará exclusivamente en los términos jurídicos y en la Jurisprudencia reduciendo en gran medida el impulso inicial del Gobierno. Quedará por ver estos días de debate en l’Assemblée Nationale1 si la prohibición será total o parcial.

The protocols described here cover the design of lentiviral vectors, strategies for modifying their tropism, including the use of various envelopes and tissue-specific promoters, and the potential of miRNA to regulate transgene expression.

Hezbollah's identities and their relevance for cultural and religious IR

This working paper analyses the role of religious and resistance identities in Hezbollah’s transformation and foreign relations. It argues that this Islamist movement has privileged material concerns over the religious dogma when both factors have not been coincidental. To do so, it uses a theoretical framework that presents the main characteristics of the anthropological and political interpretations of the role of culture and religion in defining the behaviour of international actors. In the chapter dedicated to Hezbollah, close attention is paid to the domestic and regional levels of analysis. When assessing Hezbollah’s religious identity, this paper argues that the salience of the pan-Islamic religious identity in Hezbollah’s origins has been replaced by an increased political pragmatism. It also argues that the fight against Israel represents Hezbollah’s raison d’être and that its resistance identity has not suffered major transformations and has been easily combined with religious rhetoric. Linking Hezbollah’s case study with the theoretical framework, this paper argues that political conceptions of cultural and religious identities provide the best analytical tool to understand the evolution of this Islamist movement.

Une IgA à coefficient de sédimentation 11 S dans les sécrétions externes de l'espèce bovine

The sedimentation coefficient of a secretory IgA found in bovine colostrum and saliva is compared with that of IgG and IgM from the same colostrum. The IgA fraction gives a value of 10.8 S, whereas the major part of the IgG has a value of 7.1 S and the IgM 19.2 S. The sedimentation coefficient of the free secretory piece has also been determined: its value is 4.95 S.

A two-compartment mathematical model of neuroglial metabolism using [1-(11)C] acetate.

The purpose of this study was to develop a two-compartment metabolic model of brain metabolism to assess oxidative metabolism from [1-(11)C] acetate radiotracer experiments, using an approach previously applied in (13)C magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), and compared with an one-tissue compartment model previously used in brain [1-(11)C] acetate studies. Compared with (13)C MRS studies, (11)C radiotracer measurements provide a single uptake curve representing the sum of all labeled metabolites, without chemical differentiation, but with higher temporal resolution. The reliability of the adjusted metabolic fluxes was analyzed with Monte-Carlo simulations using synthetic (11)C uptake curves, based on a typical arterial input function and previously published values of the neuroglial fluxes V(tca)(g), V(x), V(nt), and V(tca)(n) measured in dynamic (13)C MRS experiments. Assuming V(x)(g)=10 × V(tca)(g) and V(x)(n)=V(tca)(n), it was possible to assess the composite glial tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle flux V(gt)(g) (V(gt)(g)=V(x)(g) × V(tca)(g)/(V(x)(g)+V(tca)(g))) and the neurotransmission flux V(nt) from (11)C tissue-activity curves obtained within 30 minutes in the rat cortex with a beta-probe after a bolus infusion of [1-(11)C] acetate (n=9), resulting in V(gt)(g)=0.136±0.042 and V(nt)=0.170±0.103 μmol/g per minute (mean±s.d. of the group), in good agreement with (13)C MRS measurements.

Molecular and Antigenic Characterization of the Leishmania (Viannia) panamensis Kinetoplastid Membrane Protein-11

The kinetoplastid membrane protein 11 (KMP-11) has been recently described in Leishmania (Leishmania) donovani as a major component of the promastigote membrane. Two oligonucleotide primers were synthesized to PCR-amplify the entire coding region of New World Leishmania species. The Leishmania (Viannia) panamensis amplification product was cloned, sequenced and the putative amino acid sequence determined. A remarkably high degree of sequence homology was observed with the corresponding molecule of L. (L) donovani and L. (L) infantum (97% and 96%, respectively). Southern blot analysis showed that the KMP-11 locus is conformed by three copies of the gene. The L. (V) panamensis ORF was subsequently cloned in a high expression vector and the recombinant protein was induced and purified from Escherichia coli cultures. Immunoblot analysis showed that 80%, 77% and 100% sera from cutaneous, mucocutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis patients, respectively, recognized the recombinant KMP-11 protein. In a similar assay, 86% of asymptomatic Leishmania-infected individuals showed IgG antibodies against the rKMP-11. We propose that KMP-11 could be used as a serologic marker for infection and disease caused by Leishmania in America.

An axiomatic justification of mediation in bankruptcy problems.

This paper provides a natural way of reaching an agreement between two prominent proposals in a bankruptcy problem. Particularly, using the fact that such problems can be faced from two different points of views, awards and losses, we justify the average of any pair of dual bankruptcy rules through the definition a double recursive process. Finally, by considering three posible sets of equity principles that a particular society may agree on, we retrieve the average of old and well known bankruptcy rules, the Constrained Equal Awards and the Constrained Equal Losses rules, Piniles’ rule and its dual rule, and the Constrained Egalitarian rule and its dual rule. A way to play bankruptcy problems.

The commitment among agents has always been a difficult task, especially when they have to decide how to distribute the available amount of a scarce resource among all. On the one hand, there are a multiplicity of possible ways for assigning the available amount; and, on the other hand, each agent is going to propose that distribution which provides her the highest possible award. In this paper, with the purpose of making this agreement easier, firstly we use two different sets of basic properties, called Commonly Accepted Equity Principles, to delimit what agents can propose as reasonable allocations. Secondly, we extend the results obtained by Chun (1989) and Herrero (2003), obtaining new characterizations of old and well known bankruptcy rules. Finally, using the fact that bankruptcy problems can be analyzed from awards and losses, we define a mechanism which provides a new justification of the convex combinations of bankruptcy rules.
