OBJETIVO: Determinar os índices de resistência (IR) e pulsatilidade (IP) nas artérias uterinas durante o primeiro e segundo trimestres de gestação. MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: Realizamos estudo prospectivo longitudinal em 44 mulheres normais, da 8ª a 12ª e na 22ª semanas de gestação. A dopplervelocimetria foi realizada em ambas as artérias uterinas por meio do IR e do IP. Utilizamos volume de amostra de 1 a 2 mm, filtro de 50 a 70 Hz e ângulo de insonação abaixo de 60°. RESULTADOS: O IR e o IP da artéria uterina no primeiro trimestre foram maiores da 8ª a 12ª do que na 22ª semana de gestação. O IR e o IP da artéria uterina, no primeiro trimestre, com incisura foram de 0,83 ± 0,07 e 2,32 ± 0,79, e sem incisura, de 0,71 ± 0,16 e 1,61 ± 0,78, respectivamente. No segundo trimestre, o IR e o IP da artéria uterina com incisura foram de 0,59 ± 0,09 e 1,03 ± 0,32, e sem incisura, de 0,44 ± 0,09 e 0,63 ± 0,19, respectivamente. CONCLUSÃO: Estabelecemos os valores de referência do IR e do IP das artérias uterinas de gestantes normais no primeiro e segundo trimestres de gestação.

Thirty years after neo-liberalism hegemony, the states shows its incapacity for driving democratically exceptional situations like global economical crisis. In this context, it seems a particularly interesting issue to exam the popular alternatives that are growing to reject the institutional paralysis. This work take these problems since European perspective, especially this one of Spain, and its scope is justify the new forms of civil disobedience that are growing. They are analyzed not like"paradoxes" of democracy, but like necessary instruments of participative democracy into a really exceptional scenario

Hexafluoroacetylaceton derivatives of some synthesized components of the guazatine fungicide were prepared, and their separation and identification performed through gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The chromatogram obtained from hexafluoroacetylacetone derivative of the commercial guazatine presented 14 major peaks, and 9 of them were identified through both techniques mentioned above.

The chemical durability of the Li2O-ZrO2-BaO-SiO2 system was examined by determination of the Vickers hardness. The dependence of hardness and of the chemical resistance with BaO addition was investigated. The experimental results indicate that the hardness increases with the BaO content. The samples surface's morphology submitted to the chemical treatment in acidic (H2SO4) and basic (KOH) solution was accompanied by scanning electron microscopy. The chemical durability of the materials with BaO showed better than the glass ceramic without this content. These materials treated with H2SO4 solution showed a preferential attack to the silica rich sites.

The adsorption of triadimenol (1-(4-chlorophenoxy)-3,3-dimethyl-1-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-yl)butan-2-ol) on soil samples with varying contents of organic matter was studied. The adsorption was described by means of the Freundlich's isoterm. An increase in the capacity of adsorption was observed as the content of organic carbon in the matrix increased. That effect was observed when removing the organic matter from the soil, when adding a urban waste compost to the soil sample as well as to the soil sample without organic matter, and also after leaving proportions of urban waste compost incubated in these matrices for a period of 120 days. The results show that the adsorption of the triadimenol in the soil is dependent of its content of organic carbon.

The xerogel p-anisidinepropylsilica was obtained. This solid presents some residual paraffin and also a small fraction of high organofunctionalized material that was leached in polar solvent. The xerogel purification could be achieved by exhaustively washing with hexane and dichloromethane solvents, or submitting the xerogel to thermal treatment up to 300 ºC, in vacuum. The resulting purified xerogel material present an appreciable thermal stability and resistance to leaching by solvents.

This article provides an overview on the recent achievements to combat Gram-positive bacteria and the mechanisms related to antimicrobial activity and bacterial resistance. Selected synthetic methodologies to access structurally diverse bioactive compounds are presented in order to emphasize the most important substances currently developed to overcome multiresistant strains. The main properties of vancomycin and related glycopeptide antibiotics are also discussed as a background to understanding the design of new chemotherapeutic agents.

Thermosensitive hydrogels were synthesized using alginate-Ca2+ in association with a thermosensitive polymer, such as PNIPAAm. The mechanical properties of the hydrogels were determined measuring the maximum tension of deformation. With the increase of the temperature by 25 to 40 ºC above the LCST the chains of PNIPAAm collapsed, dragging the alginate net and diminishing the size of the pores. The decrease in the size of the pores of the hydrogel was followed by an increase in the mechanicals resistance of the material.

The tebuconazole photocatalytic degradation kinetics was studied in a batch reactor using TiO2 (P25-Degussa) as catalyst and a high pressure mercury lamp. The photolysis, adsorption and irradiation effects in the reaction rate were evaluated. Afterward, the suspension catalyst concentration and initial pH to the maximum reaction rate was determined. It was observed that the reaction rate can be approached by a pseudo-first order, with a maximum kinetics constant at 260 mg L-1catalyst concentration and pH 7.7.

Multidrug resistance, MDR is a major obstacle for cancer chemotherapy. MDR can be reversed by drugs that vary in their chemical structure and main biological activity. Many efforts have been done to overcome MDR based on studies of structure-activity relationships and in this review we summarize some aspects of MDR mediated by P-glycoprotein (P-gp), as the most experimentally and clinically tested form of drug resistance. The most significant MDR mechanisms revealed until now are shortly discussed. Physicochemical and structural properties of MDR modulators, measures of the MDR reversal, and QSAR studies are included.

Antibiotic resistance has been growing at an alarming rate and consequently the arsenal of effective antibiotics against Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria has dropped dramatically. In this sense there is a strong need to produce new substances that not only have good spectrum of activity, but having new mechanisms of action. In this regard, this paper emphasizes the coordination of metals to antibiotics as a strategy for reversing antibiotic resistance and production of new drugs, with a special focus on quinolones, fluoroquinolones, sulfonamides and tetracyclines.

The influence of temperature, storage time and the addition of hydrochloride L-cysteine in the preservation of the fungicide mancozeb was studied under field conditions in the surface layer of a Cambisol collected in an area planted with cabbage in Nova Friburgo - RJ, Brazil. The results of this study showed an efficiency of up to 42% in the preservation of the fungicide in the samples treated with cysteine and stored at low temperatures compared to those not treated and kept at room temperature

This work has compared the surfaces of two different steel samples used as orthopedical implants, classified as ASTM F138 and ISO5832-9, through optical emission spectroscopy, by means of SEM and EDS. The samples (implants) were also submitted to potentiodynamic cyclic polarization in Ringer lactate and NaCl 0.9 M L-1 solutions; ISO5832-9 sample did not show any kind of localized corrosion, but in the case of F138 steel was observed a pit localized corrosion in both solutions. In Ringer lactate solution it was observed a loss of about 63% for nickel and 26% for iron for F138 stell, compared to the initial composition.

A mancha-angular, cujo agente causal é o fungo Phaeoisariopsis griseola, é uma das principais doenças do feijoeiro comum (Phaseolus vulgaris). Os marcadores moleculares disponíveis ainda não são suficientes para monitorar todos os genes de resistência a essa doença. Por isso, objetivou-se neste trabalho estudar a herança da resistência aos patótipos 63.39 e 31.23 de P. griseola, em populações derivadas de 'Ouro Negro' (ON) e 'US Pinto 111' (PT), e identificar marcadores moleculares ligados a genes de resistência presentes nessas cultivares. Quando inoculadas com o patótipo 63.39, as plantas ON, F1 (ON x PT) e 3/4 da população F2 mostraram-se resistentes enquanto que PT e 1/4 da população F2 foram suscetíveis. Quando inoculadas com o patótipo 31.23, as plantas PT e 1/4 das famílias F2:3 foram resistentes e todas as demais, suscetíveis. Esses dados indicam que a resistência proveniente de ON é conferida por um gene dominante enquanto que a de PT, por um recessivo. Esses dois genes segregaram independentemente. Amostras de DNA das plantas F2 foram amplificadas pela técnica de RAPD (random amplified polymorphic DNA) de acordo com a estratégia de análise de bulks segregantes. Foram identificados os marcadores OPM02(460C) e OPAA19(600C,) respectivamente a 5,3 e 10 centimorgans (cM) do loco de resistência proveniente de ON. Eles flanqueiam este loco e, quando empregados simultaneamente, proporcionam uma eficiência de seleção de 97,4%. Não foram identificados marcadores para o loco de resistência proveniente de PT.

A identificação de fontes de resistência é uma etapa básica em programas de melhoramento que visam o desenvolvimento de cultivares resistentes a doenças. Neste trabalho, foram inoculadas, sob condições controladas, oito linhagens de feijoeiro-comum (Phaseolus vulgaris) desenvolvidas pelo Departamento de Agricultura dos Estados Unidos, com quatro raças conhecidas de Uromyces appendiculatus coletadas no estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. A cultivar Ouro Negro foi utilizada como padrão de resistência e US Pinto 111 (suscetível universal) como padrão de suscetibilidade. Foi avaliada a freqüência de infecção (FI) e estimado o tamanho médio das pústulas (TMP). As linhagens BelMiDak-RMR-12 e BelMiDak-RR-3 destacaram-se como as mais resistentes, apresentando, para todas as raças, apenas pústulas (com diâmetro < 300mim) na face abaxial da folha. As linhagens BelDakMi-RMR-10 e BelNeb RR-2 apresentaram baixa FI média e foram resistentes a quatro e três raças, respectivamente. A linhagem BelDak-RR-2, apesar de sua resistência a todas as raças, apresentou uma FI média relativamente alta. As linhagens BelMiNeb-RMR-3 e BelDakMi RR-7 também foram resistentes às quatro raças testadas, porém apresentaram alta FI média e algumas pústulas com diâmetro maior que 300 mim. A linhagem BelDakMi-RMR-11 foi resistente às raças 45, 46 e 49 e moderadamente resistente à raça 52. A cultivar Ouro Negro foi resistente às quatro raças, com um nível de resistência igual às melhores linhagens norte americanas.
