Annual report for federal fiscal year 2008 submitted to the Rehabilitation Services Administration, Office of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, U.S. Department of Education. This report is requied to be submitted each year by December 31th for the pervious fiscal year as part of the federal grant requirements for the Client Assistance Program grantee in each state. In Iowa, the Client Assistance Program is housed in the Division of Persons with Disabilities, Department of Human Rights and provides information and referral services and advocacy services as outlined under the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended.

Existen distintos tipos de dificultades de accesibilidad entre los alumnos que cursan sus estudios en nuestras facultades. Podemos encontrar por ejemplo algunos alumnos ciegos o con diferentes grados de baja visión, incluyendo los problemas debidos a la edad (presbicia o vista cansada), también alumnos con trastornos de aprendizaje como dislexia o TDAH o alumnos que sufren dificultades de acceso derivadas de los dispositivos que usan para la conexión (con pantallas muy pequeñas). La accesibilidad, como disciplina, pretende mejorar las condiciones de acceso a la información de todos ellos.El proyecto “Recursos docentes accesibles” (2010-2012), en el marco del Programa de Mejora e Innovación Docente de la Universidad de Barcelona, se centra en la baja visión y en la dislexia. El objetivo principal es crear y poner a disposición de todo el profesorado y de los responsables académicos de las titulaciones de la Universidad de Barcelona un conjunto de plantillas y modelos de documentos docentes accesibles en origen y fácilmente transformables a versiones ampliadas o mejoradas. El proyecto se desarrolla en la Facultad de Biblioteconomía y Documentación y la Facultad de Matemáticas y ha contado con la colaboración de numerosos docentes. La previsión es extender este proyecto a otras universidades con la esperanza que, entre todos, podamos mejorar los problemas de accesibilidad de los documentos docentes.

Este trabajo pretende analizar la similitud entre algunos de los ítems de dos escalas utilizadas en el psicodiignóstico de la primera infancia y construidas a partir de marcos conceptuales divergentes: Brunet-Uzine de estructura psicométrica clásica y Casati-Uzine, adaptación de las pruebas de Piaget. Asimismo deseamos.verificar si ambas escalas proporcionan dliagnósticos equivalentes al aplicarlas a niños con sindrome de Down. El análisis sistemático del contenido de 10s ítems de las dos escalas evidencia una gran similitud de las pautas de conducta que algunos de los items solicitan al niño. El tratamiento estadístic0 de 10s datos indica que para el tipo de niños estudiado la escala Casati-Lézine tiende a acordar edades de desarrollo más altas que la de Brunet-Lézine. La muestra esta compuesta por 18 niños, entre 6 y 24 meses, con sindrome de Down.

This paper looks at the contribution of political leaders to enhance citizens education and investigate how the educational attainment of the population is affected while a leader with higher education remains in office. For this purpose, we consider educational transitions of political leaders in office and find that the educational attainment of population increases when a more educated leader remains in office. Furthermore, we also observe that the educational attainment of the population is negatively impacted when a country transitions from an educated leader to a less educated one. This result may help to explain the previous finding that more educated political leaders favor economic growth. Actualment s’està donant molt pes al fet d’incloure dins l’aula a tot aquell alumnat amb necessitats educatives especials per tal de fomentar la inclusió. Aquest fet i com a persona que visc el dia a dia amb persones amb diversitat funcional ha fet que hem plantegi molts dubtes i reptes sobre la inclusió. Així doncs, vaig pensar que seria interessant observar, descriure i analitzar com viu un infant amb diversitat funcional la seva escolarització dins una aula ordinària i dins una aula d’educació especial. La principal participant de la investigació ha estat la Laia, una nena de 10 anys la qual realitza escolarització compartida. La seva família i les tutores dels dos centres han col·laborat en la investigació aportant informació. El mètode utilitzat per a la investigació ha estat una recerca qualitativa a partir de l’anàlisi d’un estudi de cas utilitzant les entrevistes amb la família i els tutors de la Laia, l’observació de Laia dins l’horari escolar i les notes de camp com a instruments de recollida de dades. Com a conclusions pensem que la inclusió d’aquells infants amb diversitat funcional dins l’aula ordinària és molt important ja que els ajuda a viure en un àmbit amb total normalitat i fomenta el respecte de la gent que els envolta. Cal fomentar les situacions d’inclusió amb l’ús d’estratègies com poden ser el treball cooperatiu o establint bones relacions amb la gent que els envolta.

Los principios, las prácticas y la investigación sobre diseño universal han sidoimplantados progresivamente en diferentes ámbitos, respecto al diseño y la preparación de entornos para la atención a las necesidades de las personas con discapacidad. En el contexto internacional, este desarrollo ha estado vinculado al avance en derechos sobre igualdad de oportunidades. En el contexto legislativo español, en la Ley 51/2003 se introducen definiciones sobre «accesibilidad universal» y «diseño para todos», con lo que se genera un marco que posibilita el análisis de fuentes conceptuales y de aplicación en nuestro contexto, de las aportaciones del diseño universal, así como su consideración para la fundamentación de prácticas de innovación e investigación en nuestros ámbitos universitarios. En este trabajo, a partir de una amplia revisión de fuentes y aportaciones de gran trayectoria en este campo, se presentan y analizan distintos enfoques, a través de los cuales se están desarrollando y aplicando prácticas de diseño universal en el ámbito de la enseñanza universitaria, y se plantean sus implicaciones educativas. Este análisis permite concluir que las aplicaciones del diseño universal parecen más prometedoras para el progreso hacia metas de inclusión en el entorno universitario que una perspectiva de «adaptación curricular»; aunque se pone de manifiesto la necesidad de que la investigación que se desarrolle en nuestros contextos aporte pruebas y elementos que favorezcan su implementa- ción. Aplicar prácticas docentes y de planificación en la enseñanza universitaria con bases en el diseño universal podría contribuir a superar, eliminar o evitar en un futuro barreras en el aprendizaje, no solo limitadoras del progreso de las personas con discapacidad, sino también del conjunto del alumnado. Asimismo, las conclusiones de este trabajo plantean aplicaciones y estimaciones de nuevas muestras empíricas como puntos de partida para futuras y posibles determinaciones de enfoques conceptuales.

Background Area-based measures of socioeconomic position (SEP) suitable for epidemiological research are lacking in Switzerland. The authors developed the Swiss neighbourhood index of SEP (Swiss-SEP). Methods Neighbourhoods of 50 households with overlapping boundaries were defined using Census 2000 and road network data. Median rent per square metre, proportion households headed by a person with primary education or less, proportion headed by a person in manual or unskilled occupation and the mean number of persons per room were analysed in principle component analysis. The authors compared the index with independent income data and examined associations with mortality from 2001 to 2008. Results 1.27 million overlapping neighbourhoods were defined. Education, occupation and housing variables had loadings of 0.578, 0.570 and 0.362, respectively, and median rent had a loading of −0.459. Mean yearly equivalised income of households increased from SFr42 000 to SFr72 000 between deciles of neighbourhoods with lowest and highest SEP. Comparing deciles of neighbourhoods with lowest to highest SEP, the age- and sex-adjusted HR was 1.38 (95% CI 1.36 to 1.41) for all-cause mortality, 1.83 (95% CI 1.71 to 1.95) for lung cancer, 1.48 (95% CI 1.44 to 1.51) for cardiovascular diseases, 2.42 (95% CI 1.94 to 3.01) for traffic accidents, 0.93 (95% CI 0.85 to 1.02) for breast cancer and 0.86 (95% CI 0.78 to 0.95) for suicide. Conclusions Developed using a novel approach to define neighbourhoods, the Swiss-SEP index was strongly associated with household income and some causes of death. It will be useful for clinical- and population-based studies, where individual-level socioeconomic data are often missing, and to investigate the effects on health of the socioeconomic characteristics of a place.
