AVALIAÇÃO DAS ALTERAÇÕES NA SOBREMORDIDA E NAS ALTURAS FACIAIS ANTERIOR E POSTERIOR, DECORRENTES DO TRATAMENTO ORTODÔNTICO COM EXTRAÇÃO DE PRÉ-MOLARES, EM PACIENTES COM DIFERENTES TIPOS FACIAIS.

O presente estudo investigou as alterações no trespasse vertical e na altura facial ântero-inferior em pacientes com má-oclusão de Classe I e diferentes tipos faciais com apinhamento submetidos a extração de quatro pré-molares, no pré e pós-tratamento ortodôntico. Foram selecionadas telerradiografias em norma lateral de 36 indivíduos na faixa etária de 12 anos e 2 meses a 16 anos e 5 meses, que realizaram o tratamento ortodôntico com o emprego de aparelho pré-ajustado Straight Wire..Para a análise as medidas utilizadas foram AFA, AFAI, AFP, FMA, SN.GoGn, além de medidas lineares descritas por Hans et al. As alterações nas alturas faciais anterior, antero-inferior e posterior foram similares nos três grupos estudados, apresentando aumento ao final do tratamento ortodôntico, porém sem significância estatística nas alturas faciais anteriores no grupo dos braquifaciais. Em FMA, foram estatisticamente significantes apenas para os braquifaciais e de SN.GoGn para braqui e dolicofaciais. Quanto às medidas lineares de Hans verificou-se que o grupo dos braquifaciais apresentou aumento estatisticamente significante em TLI e MNSK, no grupo dos mesofaciais, o mesmo ocorreu em BUI e MNSK e nos dolicofaciais todas as medidas exceto TUI apresentaram aumento significativo. Em todos os grupos foi observada uma diminuição da sobremordida.(AU)

Sequential grouping of pure-tone percepts evoked by the segregation of components from a complex tone

A sudden change applied to a single component can cause its segregation from an ongoing complex tone as a pure-tone-like percept. Three experiments examined whether such pure-tone-like percepts are organized into streams by extending the research of Bregman and Rudnicky (1975). Those authors found that listeners struggled to identify the presentation order of 2 pure-tone targets of different frequency when they were flanked by 2 lower frequency “distractors.” Adding a series of matched-frequency “captor” tones, however, improved performance by pulling the distractors into a separate stream from the targets. In the current study, sequences of discrete pure tones were substituted by sequences of brief changes applied to an otherwise constant 1.2-s complex tone. Pure-tone-like percepts were evoked by applying 6-dB increments to individual components of a complex comprising harmonics 1–7 of 300 Hz (Experiment 1) or 0.5-ms changes in interaural time difference to individual components of a log-spaced complex (range 160–905 Hz; Experiment 2). Results were consistent with the earlier study, providing clear evidence that pure-tone-like percepts are organized into streams. Experiment 3 adapted Experiment 1 by presenting a global amplitude increment either synchronous with, or just after, the last captor prior to the 1st distractor. In the former case, for which there was no pure-tone-like percept corresponding to that captor, the captor sequence did not aid performance to the same extent as previously. It is concluded that this change to the captor-tone stream partially resets the stream-formation process, and so the distractors and targets became likely to integrate once more. Excise Tax Overshifting in the Hungarian Beer Market

We conduct this paper on excise tax shifting in the Hungarian beer market. Using a regression model we show that tax overshifting occurs in this market. We present a model with oligopolistic competition to explain how tax overshifting can occur because of the separated vertical structure. Our results suggests that Hungarian beer producers compete in Bertrand fashion and the hypothesis of collusion between beer producers can be rejected.

After a decade of over-expansion, the hotel industry began the '90s with excess capacity and decreased demand. Since 1993, the U.S. hotel industry has experienced a turnaround which continued into 1994- 1995 with good performance by most firms. However; competition will continue to be fierce and many challenges are awaiting hotel companies in a more global environment. This article examines the key elements for achieving success in a challenging hospitality industry environment while focusing on the strategies and techniques employed by some successful hotel companies during difficult times.
