ABSTRACT The objective of this project is to investigate the ecological viability of fracking. To do this, we firstly demonstrate that the benefit of the application of this technique is a reality, taking the example of the United States. After this, the study focus on risks that can appear with the use of the hydraulic fracturing, referring to existing background, analyzing these cases and searching solutions for each one. For the realization of this study, it is necessary to focus it from different points of view, analyzing favorable and contrary opinions about this new technology. It also is necessary to address the legislative issue about the unconventional resources exploitation, checking it level or development.

Shading reduces the power output of a photovoltaic (PV) system. The design engineering of PV systems requires modeling and evaluating shading losses. Some PV systems are affected by complex shading scenes whose resulting PV energy losses are very difficult to evaluate with current modeling tools. Several specialized PV design and simulation software include the possibility to evaluate shading losses. They generally possess a Graphical User Interface (GUI) through which the user can draw a 3D shading scene, and then evaluate its corresponding PV energy losses. The complexity of the objects that these tools can handle is relatively limited. We have created a software solution, 3DPV, which allows evaluating the energy losses induced by complex 3D scenes on PV generators. The 3D objects can be imported from specialized 3D modeling software or from a 3D object library. The shadows cast by this 3D scene on the PV generator are then directly evaluated from the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). Thanks to the recent development of GPUs for the video game industry, the shadows can be evaluated with a very high spatial resolution that reaches well beyond the PV cell level, in very short calculation times. A PV simulation model then translates the geometrical shading into PV energy output losses. 3DPV has been implemented using WebGL, which allows it to run directly from a Web browser, without requiring any local installation from the user. This also allows taken full benefits from the information already available from Internet, such as the 3D object libraries. This contribution describes, step by step, the method that allows 3DPV to evaluate the PV energy losses caused by complex shading. We then illustrate the results of this methodology to several application cases that are encountered in the world of PV systems design. This paper describes the procedure implemented at CEM for dynamic force calibration using sinusoidal excitations of force transducers. The method is based on a sinusoidal excitation of force transducers equipped with an additional top mass excited with an electrodynamic shaker system. The acceleration is measured by means of a laser vibrometer.

The presence of endotoxin from Gram-negative bacteria signals the innate immune system to up-regulate bacterial clearance and/or killing mechanisms. Paradoxically, such responses also contribute to septic shock, a clinical problem occurring with high frequency in Gram-negative septicemia. CD14 is a receptor for endotoxin (lipopolysaccharide, LPS) and is thought to have an essential role in innate immune responses to infection and thereby in the development of septic shock. Using a novel rabbit model of endotoxic shock produced by multiple exposures to endotoxin, we show that anti-rabbit CD14 mAb, which blocks LPS-CD14 binding, protects against organ injury and death even when the antibody is administered after initial exposures to LPS. In contrast, anti-rabbit tumor necrosis factor mAb treatment fails to protect when administered after LPS injections. These results support the concept that anti-CD14 treatment provides a new therapeutic window for the prevention of pathophysiologic changes that result from cumulative exposures to LPS during septic shock in man.

Every year, obesity rates continue to rise and have reached epidemic proportions throughout the United States. The costs associated with obesity are staggering and many researchers feel that the workplace should be the new front line in the battle for a healthier workforce. Employers must take action to address this worsening health crisis and help reduce spiraling medical costs and absenteeism rates. This capstone reviews the current literature on wellness programs and discusses different companies' approaches to wellness programs that have special emphasis on nutrition and physical activity. It also provides strategies and recommendations for companies eager to initiate a comprehensive, dynamic and directed wellness program to improve the current and future health of their workforce.

Headed on the first page with the words "Nomenclatura hebraica," this handwritten volume is a vocabulary with the Hebrew word in the left column, and the English translation on the right. While the book is arranged in sections by letter, individual entries do not appear in strict alphabetical order. The small vocabulary varies greatly and includes entries like enigma, excommunication, and martyr, as well as cucumber and maggot. There are translations of the astrological signs at the end of the volume. Poem written at the bottom of the last page in different hand: "Women when good the best of saints/ that bright seraphick lovely/ she, who nothing of an angel/ wants but truth & immortality./ Verse 2: Who silken limbs & charming/ face. Keeps nature warm."
