Our aim in this article is to accomplish an afterthought concerning contemporary fiction. Taken as initial the afterthought of the role of the novel as fiction and its linking with the afterthought of mimesis in modernity, we aim to consider the presence of agony not only as a theme but also as a structural element of narratives. Eventually, we will make brief tallies of theses aspects in the work of José Saramago.

Na teoria e na ficção: a vanguarda em Clarice Lispector

The short story “Os desastres de Sofia” (1964), of Clarice Lispector, can be read as fictional metaphor for the way as the writer elaborated and presented the concept of “Vanguard”. Philosophical reflections of Walter Benjamin (1933) contains the arguments that Clarice, in this narrative, invigorates, by the use of modern keys, vanguardist, according to her conception, which Benjamin sanctioned by the melancholic look of the past. Clarice is notable as a writer of prose affiliated with the brazilian modern poetry.

From the reading of contemporary Portuguese fiction, after the Carnation’s Revoluction, in 1974, we can observe an opening in the literary and academic ambiences to the treatment of themes, silenced before for the New State despotism. Considering the postmoderns proposals of reviewing the canon, we mark the necessity of a homoerotism inclusion as one of the most fundamental theme for the comprehension of the actual literary production in Portugal.

Revisitações homoeróticas e sensibilidades pós-modernas na ficção de Guilherme de Melo

The aim of this essay is to offer a new angle on the novel A sombra dos dias [The shadow of the days] by Guilherme de Melo, published in 1981, stressing the homoerotic look on Mozambique's Colonial War and the Lourenço Marques society of the time, recreated her in another direction, revealing the scenarios and the behavior of that society. We propose a rereading of a not too distant past, which still has political and cultural effects on Portuguese society.

In the first decades of the Republic, the streets of the main Brazilian capital cities, especially of Rio de Janeiro and Recife, recently urbanized based on the Haussmanian Paris and smiled upon by the fever of cosmopolitanism that invested Europe, women had been used as runways where they could exhibit her imitated or imported models, especially in Paris. The iconography of the time and the advertisements conveyed by magazines and illustrated periodicals, such as the Almanach de Pernambuco and the magazine Kosmos, for instance, form the testimonies of the massive presence of the French in Rio and Recife, owners of stores and maisons, interested in fulfill the demands of the republican public. In spite of the Strong adherence of the Brazilians to the sociability models to the imported from Europe, the less-favored classes, through the popular literature, showed some resistance to these changes in the habits and clothing, especially in the Northeast, where traces of the Catholic and patriarchal moral and mentality were still alive.

Space is certainly one of the most important basic narrative categories to be considered when studying different fictional media formats; it encompasses a range of rich attributes. While we perceive the preference cinema gives to this narrative category by the fact that the Seventh Art is known as the “art of space”, the occurrence of digital media makes us realize that space has to be explored virtually, providing the interacting person with the feeling that he, too, has room in the fictional world.

Entre a ficção e a objetividade: breve estudo sobre a crônica no jornalismo brasileiro durante a Copa do Mundo de Futebol de 2002

A Copa do Mundo de Futebol de 2002, disputada no Japão e na Coreia do Sul, representava um desafio inédito para a cobertura dos jornais brasileiros: oferecer um conteúdo atraente para o leitor diante dos prazos de edição e publicação, os quais antecediam em poucos momentos os horários das partidas do torneio. Uma das estratégias para combater a efemeridade do tempo da notícia foi a de recorrer à colaboração de escritores e cronistas. Convocados para comentar o evento, esses profissionais distanciaram-se da mera referência jornalística; assim, fatos e notícias reconstruídos passaram a adquirir contornos carregados de subjetividade e criação literária.

Recepção por demanda de ficção seriada televisiva

O presente trabalho investiga a adequação para a recepção por demanda da estrutura da ficção seriada televisiva, matriz concebida para a veiculação em fluxo dentro da lógica da grade de programação. Centrando no gancho e repetição narrativa, foram realizados estudos de cena em Mckee (2006) e aplicadas as funções das personagens de Propp (1986) no corpus: A Grande Família, Duas Caras e Filhos do Carnaval. Em seguida, simulou-se a sua recepção por demanda e fluxo.
