In this paper a method of solving certain third-order non-linear systems by using themethod of ultraspherical polynomial approximation is proposed. By using the method of variation of parameters the third-order equation is reduced to three partial differential equations. Instead of being averaged over a cycle, the non-linear functions are expanded in ultraspherical polynomials and with only the constant term retained, the equations are solved. The results of the procedure are compared with the numerical solutions obtained on a digital computer. A degenerate third-order system is also considered and results obtained for the above system are compared with numerical results obtained on the digital computer. There is good agreement between the results obtained by the proposed method and the numerical solution obtained on digital computer.

The “partition method” or “sub-domain method” consists of expressing the solution of a governing differential equation, partial or ordinary, in terms of functions which satisfy the boundary conditions and setting to zero the error in the differential equation integrated over each of the sub-domains into which the given domain is partitioned. In this paper, the use of this method in eigenvalue problems with particular reference to vibration of plates is investigated. The deflection of the plate is expressed in terms of polynomials satisfying the boundary conditions completely. Setting the integrated error in each of the subdomains to zero results in a set of simultaneous, linear, homogeneous, algebraic equations in the undetermined coefficients of the deflection series. The algebraic eigenvalue problem is then solved for eigenvalues and eigenvectors. Convergence is examined in a few typical cases and is found to be satisfactory. The results obtained are compared with existing results based on other methods and are found to be in very good agreement.

The classical Rayleigh-Ritz method with simple polynomials as admissible functions has been used for obtaining natural frequencies of transversely vibrating polar orthotropic annular plates. The method in conjunction with transformations introduced in the analysis has been found to be quite effective, particularly for large hole sizes. Estimates of natural frequencies corresponding to modes with one as well as two nodal diameters are obtained for the nine combinations of clamped, simply supported and free edge conditions and for various values of rigidity ratio and hole sizes. Based on the variation of eigenvalue parameter with rigidity ratio, the frequencies of these modes as well as those of axisymmetric modes have been expressed by means of simple formulae in terms of rigidity ratio and the frequencies of corresponding modes in the isotropic case. These formulae have been used in determining the fundamental frequencies of orthotropic plates.

Curved hollow bars of laminated anisotropic construction are used as structural members in many industries. They are used in order to save weight without loss of stiffness in comparison with solid sections. In this paper are presented the details of the development of the stiffness matrices of laminated anisotropic curved hollow bars under line member assumptions for two typical sections, circular and square. They are 16dof elements which make use of one-dimensional first-order Hermite interpolation polynomials for the description of assumed displacement state. Problems for which analytical or other solutions are available are first solved using these elements. Good agreement was found between the results. In order to show the capability of the element, application is made to carbon fibre reinforced plastic layered anisotropic curved hollow bars.

This paper presents finite element analysis of laminated anisotropic beams of bimodulus materials. The finite element has 16 d.o.f. and uses the displacement field in terms of first order Hermite interpolation polynomials. As the neutral axis position may change from point to point along the length of the beam, an iterative procedure is employed to determine the location of zero strain points along the length. Using this element some problems of laminated beams of bimodulus materials are solved for concentrated loads/moments perpendicular and parallel to the layering planes as well as combined loads.

In this paper, the transient response of a third-order non-linear system is obtained by first reducing the given third-order equation to three first-order equations by applying the method of variation of parameters. On the assumption that the variations of amplitude and phase are small, the functions are expanded in ultraspherical polynomials. The expansion is restricted to the constant term. The resulting equations are solved to obtain the response of the given third-order system. A numerical example is considered to illustrate the method. The results show that the agreement between the approximate and digital solution is good thus vindicating the approximation.

The deviation in the performance of active networks due to practical operational amplifiers (OA) is mainly because of the finite gain bandwidth productBand nonzero output resistanceR_0. The effect ofBandR_0on two OA impedances and single and multi-OA filters are discussed. In filters, the effect ofR_0is to add zeros to the transfer function often making it nonminimum phase. A simple method of analysis has been suggested for 3-OA biquad and coupled biquad circuits. A general method of noise minimization of the generalized impedance converter (GIC), while operating OA's within the prescribed voltage and current limits, is also discussed. The 3-OA biquadratic sections analyzed also exhibit noise behavior and signal handling capacity similar to the GIC. The GIC based structures are found to be better than other configurations both in biquadratic sections and direct realizations of higher order transfer functions.

CTRU, a public key cryptosystem was proposed by Gaborit, Ohler and Sole. It is analogue of NTRU, the ring of integers replaced by the ring of polynomials $\mathbb{F}_2[T]$ . It attracted attention as the attacks based on either LLL algorithm or the Chinese Remainder Theorem are avoided on it, which is most common on NTRU. In this paper we presents a polynomial-time algorithm that breaks CTRU for all recommended parameter choices that were derived to make CTRU secure against popov normal form attack. The paper shows if we ascertain the constraints for perfect decryption then either plaintext or private key can be achieved by polynomial time linear algebra attack.

For p x n complex orthogonal designs in k variables, where p is the number of channels uses and n is the number of transmit antennas, the maximal rate L of the design is asymptotically half as n increases. But, for such maximal rate codes, the decoding delay p increases exponentially. To control the delay, if we put the restriction that p = n, i.e., consider only the square designs, then, the rate decreases exponentially as n increases. This necessitates the study of the maximal rate of the designs with restrictions of the form p = n+1, p = n+2, p = n+3 etc. In this paper, we study the maximal rate of complex orthogonal designs with the restrictions p = n+1 and p = n+2. We derive upper and lower bounds for the maximal rate for p = n+1 and p = n+2. Also for the case of p = n+1, we show that if the orthogonal design admit only the variables, their negatives and multiples of these by root-1 and zeros as the entries of the matrix (other complex linear combinations are not allowed), then the maximal rate always equals the lower bound.

Modern wireline and wireless communication devices are multimode and multifunctional communication devices. In order to support multiple standards on a single platform, it is necessary to develop a reconfigurable architecture that can provide the required flexibility and performance. The Channel decoder is one of the most compute intensive and essential elements of any communication system. Most of the standards require a reconfigurable Channel decoder that is capable of performing Viterbi decoding and Turbo decoding. Furthermore, the Channel decoder needs to support different configurations of Viterbi and Turbo decoders. In this paper, we propose a reconfigurable Channel decoder that can be reconfigured for standards such as WCDMA, CDMA2000, IEEE802.11, DAB, DVB and GSM. Different parameters like code rate, constraint length, polynomials and truncation length can be configured to map any of the above mentioned standards. A multiprocessor approach has been followed to provide higher throughput and scalable power consumption in various configurations of the reconfigurable Viterbi decoder and Turbo decoder. We have proposed A Hybrid register exchange approach for multiprocessor architecture to minimize power consumption.

Stability analysis is carried out considering free lateral vibrations of simply supported composite skew plates that are subjected to both direct and shear in-plane forces. An oblique stress component representation is used, consistent with the skew-geometry of the plate. A double series, expressed in Chebyshev polynomials, is used here as the assumed deflection surface and Ritz method of solution is employed. Numerical results for different combinations of side ratios, skew angle, and in-plane loadings that act individually or in combination are obtained. In this method, the in-plane load parameter is varied until the fundamental frequency goes to zero. The value of the in-plane load then corresponds to a critical buckling load. Plots of frequency parameter versus in-plane loading are given for a few typical cases. Details of crossings and quasi degeneracies of these curves are presented.

We compute the entropy and transport properties of water in the hydration layer of dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine bilayer by using a recently developed theoretical scheme two-phase thermodynamic model, termed as 2PT method; S.-T. Lin et al., J. Chem. Phys. 119, 11792 (2003)] based on the translational and rotational velocity autocorrelation functions and their power spectra. The weights of translational and rotational power spectra shift from higher to lower frequency as one goes from the bilayer interface to the bulk. Water molecules near the bilayer head groups have substantially lower entropy (48.36 J/mol/K) than water molecules in the intermediate region (51.36 J/mol/K), which have again lower entropy than the molecules (60.52 J/mol/K) in bulk. Thus, the entropic contribution to the free energy change (T Delta S) of transferring an interface water molecule to the bulk is 3.65 kJ/mol and of transferring intermediate water to the bulk is 2.75 kJ/mol at 300 K, which is to be compared with 6.03 kJ/mol for melting of ice at 273 K. The translational diffusion of water in the vicinity of the head groups is found to be in a subdiffusive regime and the rotational diffusion constant increases going away from the interface. This behavior is supported by the slower reorientational relaxation of the dipole vector and OH bond vector of interfacial water. The ratio of reorientational relaxation time for Legendre polynomials of order 1 and 2 is approximately 2 for interface, intermediate, and bulk water, indicating the presence of jump dynamics in these water molecules. In voiced speech analysis epochal information is useful in accurate estimation of pitch periods and the frequency response of the vocal tract system. Ideally, linear prediction (LP) residual should give impulses at epochs. However, there are often ambiguities in the direct use of LP residual since samples of either polarity occur around epochs. Further, since the digital inverse filter does not compensate the phase response of the vocal tract system exactly, there is an uncertainty in the estimated epoch position. In this paper we present an interpretation of LP residual by considering the effect of the following factors: 1) the shape of glottal pulses, 2) inaccurate estimation of formants and bandwidths, 3) phase angles of formants at the instants of excitation, and 4) zeros in the vocal tract system. A method for the unambiguous identification of epochs from LP residual is then presented. The accuracy of the method is tested by comparing the results with the epochs obtained from the estimated glottal pulse shapes for several vowel segments. The method is used to identify the closed glottis interval for the estimation of the true frequency response of the vocal tract system.

In 1984 Jutila [5] obtained a transformation formula for certain exponential sums involving the Fourier coefficients of a holomorphic cusp form for the full modular group SL(2, Z). With the help of the transformation formula he obtained good estimates for the distance between consecutive zeros on the critical line of the Dirichlet series associated with the cusp form and for the order of the Dirichlet series on the critical line, [7]. In this paper we follow Jutila to obtain a transformation formula for exponential sums involving the Fourier coefficients of either holomorphic cusp forms or certain Maass forms for congruence subgroups of SL(2, Z) and prove similar estimates for the corresponding Dirichlet series.

In this article, we use some spectral properties of polynomials presented in 1] and map an auto-correlation sequence to a set of Line Spectral Frequencies(LSFs) and reflection coefficients. This novel characterization of an auto-correlation sequence is used to obtain a lattice structure of a Linear-Phase(LP) FIR filter.
