Language Documentation and Description as Language Planning Working with Three Signed Minority Languages Sign languages are minority languages that typically have a low status in society. Language planning has traditionally been controlled from outside the sign-language community. Even though signed languages lack a written form, dictionaries have played an important role in language description and as tools in foreign language learning. The background to the present study on sign language documentation and description as language planning is empirical research in three dictionary projects in Finland-Swedish Sign Language, Albanian Sign Language, and Kosovar Sign Language. The study consists of an introductory article and five detailed studies which address language planning from different perspectives. The theoretical basis of the study is sociocultural linguistics. The research methods used were participant observation, interviews, focus group discussions, and document analysis. The primary research questions are the following: (1) What is the role of dictionary and lexicographic work in language planning, in research on undocumented signed language, and in relation to the language community as such? (2) What factors are particular challenges in the documentation of a sign language and should therefore be given special attention during lexicographic work? (3) Is a conventional dictionary a valid tool for describing an undocumented sign language? The results indicate that lexicographic work has a central part to play in language documentation, both as part of basic research on undocumented sign languages and for status planning. Existing dictionary work has contributed new knowledge about the languages and the language communities. The lexicographic work adds to the linguistic advocacy work done by the community itself with the aim of vitalizing the language, empowering the community, receiving governmental recognition for the language, and improving the linguistic (human) rights of the language users. The history of signed languages as low status languages has consequences for language planning and lexicography. One challenge that the study discusses is the relationship between the sign-language community and the hearing sign linguist. In order to make it possible for the community itself to take the lead in a language planning process, raising linguistic awareness within the community is crucial. The results give rise to questions of whether lexicographic work is of more importance for status planning than for corpus planning. A conventional dictionary as a tool for describing an undocumented sign language is criticised. The study discusses differences between signed and spoken/written languages that are challenging for lexicographic presentations. Alternative electronic lexicographic approaches including both lexicon and grammar are also discussed. Eu-Projekt zur Seebeprobung von Schleppnetzfangen in der Nordsee erfolgreich abgeschlossen

Six countries around the North Sea have contributed to an EU-funded project collecting information about the catch composition in commercial fisheries. The aim was, by including that part of the catch, which is discarded after sorting, to gain better knowledge about the real stock size of the most important fish species. Additionally, the data shall contribute to a better understanding of the ecological effects of trawling.

Kurzinformation zum EU - Projekt: "Mechanisms influencing long term trends in reproductive success and recruitment of Baltic cod : implications for fisheries management"

In July 1994 an internationally coordinated and EU financed multidisciplinary research project about Baltic cod recruitment was started. The primary goals are to identify and describe dominant biotic and abiotic processes affecting the developmental success of early stages and the maturation of cod in the Central Baltic, to incorporate these processes into recruitment models in order to enhance prediction of future stock fluctuations due to environmental pertubations, species interactions and fisheries management directives as a prerequisite for an integrated fish stock assessment in the Central Baltic and to evaluate the feasibility and possible effects of stock enhancement programs on stock and recruitment and providing the biological basis for assessing their economic value.

提出了一种高性能的JPEG-LS无损/近无损图像压缩算法VLSI实现结构.通过对JPEG-LS算法瓶颈的分析,针对算法中不利于流水线实现的场景缓存部分,采用了一种信号量集机制避免流水线等待.全流水线结构保证了算法实现可以满足高速图像传感器系统的吞吐量需求.同时通过高度参数化的设计,系统可以动态调整和优化算法参数,使压缩效果和效率适应不同的运行环境.算法在FPGA平台通过验证,并得到了接近甚至超过其他A-SIC实现的性能.

[Cp3Yb] reacts with HOR (Cp = C5H5; R = CH2CH=CH2, CH2CH2Me) in thf (thf = tetrahydrofuran)at room temperature to give complexes [{Cp2Yb(mu-OR)}2], which are dehydrogenated to yield the new complex [{Cp2Yb(mu-OCH=C=CH2)}2] in refluxing thf solution; the X-ray crystal structure shows that the new complex is dimeric with oxygen atoms as bridging groups.

Projekt powołania repozytorium Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu. Badanie ankietowe postaw pracowników naukowych

W artykule zaprezentowano wyniki badań ankietowych, których celem było zbadanie postaw pracowników naukowych Uniwersytetu im. Adama Mickiewicza wobec projektu powołania repozytorium instytucjonalnego. Przedstawiona w artykule szeroka analiza wyników, nie tylko ukazała postawę kadry naukowej Uniwersytetu wobec planów wdrożenia tego innowacyjnego, podnoszącego prestiż instytucji pomysłu, ale także dała wskazówki dotyczące tworzenia optymalnej polityki zarządzania przyszłym jego organizatorom. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na kwestie związane z deponowaniem i udostępnianiem dokumentów w repozytorium, wskazano również na potrzebę promowania tej idei w środowisku naukowym.

LS 4825: A blue supergiant on the far side of the galaxy

We present high-resolution spectroscopic observations of LS 4825, a V = 12 B-type star in the Galactic center direction. On the basis of its stellar and interstellar spectra, we infer that it is likely to be a young supergiant at a distance of 21 +/- 5 kpc, and hence lying on the far side of the 'Galaxy. Adopting this hypothesis, a differential abundance analysis shows LS 4825 to have a chemical composition that is consistent with local B-type supergiants. These observations therefore represent the first detailed investigation of a star on the far side of the Galactic center. We trace multiple interstellar components in Ca II K and Na I D spectra, with velocities -206 less than or equal to v(lst) less than or equal to +93 km s(-1). We consider the likely origin of this gas and find that some components appear to trace matter lying close to the Galactic center. We discuss the possible use of such sight lines in furthering our understanding both of the nature of gas around the Galactic center and of the abundance gradient of the Galaxy.
