A Mathematical Apparatus for Domain Ontology Simulation. An Extendable Language of Applied Logic

UPDATE NEEDS OF PROFESSIONAL LIBRARY: Diagnosis of teachers and graduate degree from the School of Library, Documentation and Information (EBDI), National University of Costa Rica

This project is a diagnosis of update needs and training for professionals in bibliotecology and its results will be used for the design of a Program of Permanent training in bibliotecology, which will be implemented in Bibliotecology School, Documentation and Information of the National University.The studied population is composed by all the teachers of Bibliotecology School, Documentation and Information of the National University, in October, 2007, and all the graduated students of licentiate of the EBDI from 2000 to 2007.The results of this investigation were obtained by means of a questionnaire that was filled by each one of the members of these two populations, who corresponded to 25 teachers of the EBDI and 18 graduates of licentiate. This one also presents the information that was obtained in interviews realized to the managers of the principal institutions who are professionals contracted in bibliotecology.The results obtained of this diagnosis will allow the elaboration of the Program of Permanent training in bibliotecology, considering the formative needs of the professionals in bibliotecology of the EBDI. This project includes the following products:a) Description of the social and demographic characteristics of teachers and of graduated of licentiate of the EBDI.b) Diagnosis of needs to update and training of bibliotecology professional teachers and of graduated of licentiate of the EBDI.c) Determination of the knowledge and skills that the needs to satisfy what big employers ask for.d) Recommendations for the program. Historical landmarks of decent work

Structured Abstract Purpose: this article systemizes the main historical milestones which led to the current concept of decent work and presents some implications for business. Approach: after presenting the scenario which gives a special meaning and importance to decent work, the historical landmarks are systematized until the definition of the Decent Work Agenda. Findings: Decent work is a concept that has evolved since the ILO Foundation in 1919 and had several important steps throughout its development: Philadelphia Declaration in 1944, ILO constitution update in 1946, Universal Declaration of Human Rights in 1948, Human Development Report, first edition in 1990, World Summit for Social Development in 1995, ILO Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work in 1998, World Economic Forum in 1999, Global Compact in 2000, United Nations Millennium Declaration in 2000, ILO Declaration on Social Justice for a Fair Globalization in 2008, Global Jobs Compact in 2009, and inclusion in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Throughout this development we can witness the refinement and operationalization of the concept, its institutionalization and its spread at political level, at least as an intention. Practical implications: the business area is a privileged forum to turn policies into practices and some examples are provided. Value: although decent work emerged in a very different social and economic scenario from the present time, it is claimed to be even more topical and relevant for the development of business and society today.

O balanced scorecard como ferramenta de gestão estratégica no setor bancário

Objetivo: Propor a implementação do BSC numa instituição bancária portuguesa de âmbito regional (agência bancária), procurando desenvolver um esboço de um scorecard, e do correspondente mapa estratégico, com as respetivas perspetivas, objetivos, metas, indicadores e iniciativas estratégicas, proporcionando algumas ideias acerca da importância e caraterísticas que o BSC pode desempenhar na gestão deste tipo de organizações ao nível da monitorização do desempenho e da criação de valor. Desenho/metodologia/abordagem: Investigação qualitativa através da realização de um estudo de caso exploratório numa instituição bancária portuguesa de âmbito regional. Resultados: Esta ferramenta configura-se de grande utilidade para a gestão bancária, nomeadamente pela definição e seguimento de um conjunto de indicadores coerentes com a estratégia, ao proporcionar informações relevantes e concisas e ao identificar fatores considerados prioritários para a planificação estratégica. Originalidade/valor: Entendemos que a proposta de BSC apresentada é o principal contributo deste trabalho já que consideramos que após a sua colocação em prática permitirá reunir informações que possibilitarão aos gestores tomar decisões de melhoria ou correções que se considerem necessárias. Além disso, foram raros os estudos realizados em Portugal sobre a aplicação desta ferramenta no setor bancário.
