This paper presents an approach to integrate an artificial intelligence (AI) technique, concretely rule-based processing, into mobile agents. In particular, it focuses on the aspects of designing and implementing an appropriate inference engine of small size to reduce migration costs. The main goal is combine two lines of agent research, First, the engineering oriented approach on mobile agent architectures, and, second, the AI related approach on inference engines driven by rules expressed in a restricted subset of first-order predicate logic (FOPL). In addition to size reduction, the main functions of this type of engine were isolated, generalized and implemented as dynamic components, making possible not only their migration with the agent, but also their dynamic migration and loading on demand. A set of classes for representing and exchanging knowledge between rule-based systems was also proposed.

We study energy localization in a finite one-dimensional Phi(4) oscillator chain with initial energy in a single oscillator of the chain. We numerically calculate the effective number of degrees of freedom sharing the energy on the lattice as a function of time. We find that for energies smaller than a critical value, energy equipartition among the oscillators is reached in a relatively short time. on the other hand, above the critical energy, a decreasing number of particles sharing the energy is observed. We give an estimate of the effective number of degrees of freedom as a function of the energy. Our results suggest that localization is due to the appearance, above threshold, of a breather-like structure. Analytic arguments are given, based on the averaging theory and the analysis of a discrete nonlinear Schrodinger equation approximating the dynamics, to support and explain the numerical results.

Copy number variations (CNVs) affect a wide range of phenotypic traits; however, CNVs in or near segmental duplication regions are often intractable. Using a read depth approach based on next-generation sequencing, we examined genome-wide copy number differences among five taurine (three Angus, one Holstein, and one Hereford) and one indicine (Nelore) cattle. Within mapped chromosomal sequence, we identified 1265 CNV regions comprising similar to 55.6-Mbp sequence-476 of which (similar to 38%) have not previously been reported. We validated this sequence-based CNV call set with array comparative genomic hybridization (aCGH), quantitative PCR (qPCR), and fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH), achieving a validation rate of 82% and a false positive rate of 8%. We further estimated absolute copy numbers for genomic segments and annotated genes in each individual. Surveys of the top 25 most variable genes revealed that the Nelore individual had the lowest copy numbers in 13 cases (similar to 52%, chi(2) test; P-value <0.05). In contrast, genes related to pathogen- and parasite-resistance, such as CATHL4 and ULBP17, were highly duplicated in the Nelore individual relative to the taurine cattle, while genes involved in lipid transport and metabolism, including APOL3 and FABP2, were highly duplicated in the beef breeds. These CNV regions also harbor genes like BPIFA2A (BSP30A) and WC1, suggesting that some CNVs may be associated with breed-specific differences in adaptation, health, and production traits. By providing the first individualized cattle CNV and segmental duplication maps and genome-wide gene copy number estimates, we enable future CNV studies into highly duplicated regions in the cattle genome.

The design of full programmable type-2 membership function circuit is presented in this paper. This circuit is used to implement the fuzzifier block of Type-2 Fuzzy Logic Controller chip. In this paper the type-2 fuzzy set was obtained by blurring the width of the type-1 fuzzy set. This circuit allows programming the height and the shape of the membership function. It operates in current mode, with supply voltage of 3.3V. The simulation results of interval type-2 membership function circuit have been done in CMOS 0.35μm technology using Mentor Graphics software. © 2011 IEEE.

A etiquetagem morfossintática é uma tarefa básica requerida por muitas aplicações de processamento de linguagem natural, tais como análise gramatical e tradução automática, e por aplicações de processamento de fala, por exemplo, síntese de fala. Essa tarefa consiste em etiquetar palavras em uma sentença com as suas categorias gramaticais. Apesar dessas aplicações requererem etiquetadores que demandem maior precisão, os etiquetadores do estado da arte ainda alcançam acurácia de 96 a 97%. Nesta tese, são investigados recursos de corpus e de software para o desenvolvimento de um etiquetador com acurácia superior à do estado da arte para o português brasileiro. Centrada em uma solução híbrida que combina etiquetagem probabilística com etiquetagem baseada em regras, a proposta de tese se concentra em um estudo exploratório sobre o método de etiquetagem, o tamanho, a qualidade, o conjunto de etiquetas e o gênero dos corpora de treinamento e teste, além de avaliar a desambiguização de palavras novas ou desconhecidas presentes nos textos a serem etiquetados. Quatro corpora foram usados nos experimentos: CETENFolha, Bosque CF 7.4, Mac-Morpho e Selva Científica. O modelo de etiquetagem proposto partiu do uso do método de aprendizado baseado em transformação(TBL) ao qual foram adicionadas três estratégias, combinadas em uma arquitetura que integra as saídas (textos etiquetados) de duas ferramentas de uso livre, o TreeTagger e o -TBL, com os módulos adicionados ao modelo. No modelo de etiquetador treinado com o corpus Mac-Morpho, de gênero jornalístico, foram obtidas taxas de acurácia de 98,05% na etiquetagem de textos do Mac-Morpho e 98,27% em textos do Bosque CF 7.4, ambos de gênero jornalístico. Avaliou-se também o desempenho do modelo de etiquetador híbrido proposto na etiquetagem de textos do corpus Selva Científica, de gênero científico. Foram identificadas necessidades de ajustes no etiquetador e nos corpora e, como resultado, foram alcançadas taxas de acurácia de 98,07% no Selva Científica, 98,06% no conjunto de teste do Mac-Morpho e 98,30% em textos do Bosque CF 7.4. Esses resultados são significativos, pois as taxas de acurácia alcançadas são superiores às do estado da arte, validando o modelo proposto em busca de um etiquetador morfossintático mais confiável.

Este trabalho apresenta os primeiros resultados do esforço conjunto de várias instituições, organizadas em torno da rede Geoma (Rede Temática de Pesquisa em Modelagem Ambiental da Amazônia) para avançar a compreensão dos novos padrões e processos de estruturação do território nas novas frentes no sul do Pará, analisando padrões de desmatamento e os processos que dão origem a esses padrões. Busca-se, aqui, produzir os subsídios necessários para o desenho de políticas públicas responsáveis, que não privilegiem um único aspecto do problema, como a abertura de estradas, por exemplo. Aponta-se, então, a partir desses primeiros resultados, que apenas uma solução integrada que procure estruturar os principais agentes e processos na cadeia produtiva seria possível para minorar os efeitos do desmatamento e nortear o desenvolvimento integrado para a região, com benefícios para a floresta e para as populações que ali vivem.
Aplicação de redes NeuroFuzzy ao processamento de peças automotivas por meio de injeção de polímeros

The injection molding of automotive parts is a complex process due to the many non-linear and multivariable phenomena that occur simultaneously. Commercial software applications exist for modeling the parameters of polymer injection but can be prohibitively expensive. It is possible to identify these parameters analytically, but applying classical theories of transport phenomena requires accurate information about the injection machine, product geometry, and process parameters. However, neurofuzzy networks, which achieve a synergy by combining the learning capabilities of an artificial neural network with a fuzzy set's inference mechanism, have shown success in this field. The purpose of this paper was to use a multilayer perceptron artificial neural network and a radial basis function artificial neural network combined with fuzzy sets to produce an inference mechanism that could predict injection mold cycle times. The results confirmed neurofuzzy networks as an effective alternative to solving such problems.

We consider some of the relations that exist between real Szegö polynomials and certain para-orthogonal polynomials defined on the unit circle, which are again related to certain orthogonal polynomials on [-1, 1] through the transformation x = (z1/2+z1/2)/2. Using these relations we study the interpolatory quadrature rule based on the zeros of polynomials which are linear combinations of the orthogonal polynomials on [-1, 1]. In the case of any symmetric quadrature rule on [-1, 1], its associated quadrature rule on the unit circle is also given.

Hyperverzweigte Polymere erfuhren in den letzten Jahren immer mehr Beachtung, da sie im Vergleich zu ihren linearen Analoga besondere Eigenschaften besitzen. Im Jahre 2002 wurde die erste enzymkatalysierte Darstellung hyperverzweigter Poly(epsilon-caprolacton)e (hb-PCL) beschrieben. Hier ermöglichte das Konzept der konkurrierenden ringöffnenden Polymerisation und Polykondensation die Kontrolle der Eigenschaften des dargestellten Polymers. Detaillierte Untersuchungen in Hinblick auf Grenzen und Möglichkeiten, aber auch die Synthese im Technikumsmaßstab sind wesentliche Aspekte dieser Arbeit. Außerdem wird ein neues Konzept eingeführt, das Reknitting genannt wurde. Ziel desselben ist das Recycling kommerziellen, linearen PCLs mittels Umesterung zu hb-PCL durch Enzymkatalyse. Diese hb-PCLs zeigen vergleichbare Eigenschaften zu den aus den Comonomeren dargestellten. Ausgehend von hb-PCL sollte eine geeignete Route zu methacrylierten Vernetzerverbindungen entwickelt werden. Aus Mischungen derselben mit 2-Hydroxyethylmethacrylat wurden komplexe Netzwerkarchitekturen durch Copolymerisation erhalten. Diese Netzwerke wurden in Hinblick auf ihre mechanisch physikalischen Eigenschaften untersucht. Zuletzt wurden Screeningexperimente an anderen zyklischen Estern durchgeführt, da ein Transfer des oben vorgestellten Konzepts angestrebt wurde. Zwei neue hyperverzweigte Polymerklassen, hb-Poly(delta-valerolacton) und hb-Polytrimethylencarbonat wurden detaillierter untersucht und in Ihren Eigenschaften mit hb-PCL verglichen.

This thesis presents some different techniques designed to drive a swarm of robots in an a-priori unknown environment in order to move the group from a starting area to a final one avoiding obstacles. The presented techniques are based on two different theories used alone or in combination: Swarm Intelligence (SI) and Graph Theory. Both theories are based on the study of interactions between different entities (also called agents or units) in Multi- Agent Systems (MAS). The first one belongs to the Artificial Intelligence context and the second one to the Distributed Systems context. These theories, each one from its own point of view, exploit the emergent behaviour that comes from the interactive work of the entities, in order to achieve a common goal. The features of flexibility and adaptability of the swarm have been exploited with the aim to overcome and to minimize difficulties and problems that can affect one or more units of the group, having minimal impact to the whole group and to the common main target. Another aim of this work is to show the importance of the information shared between the units of the group, such as the communication topology, because it helps to maintain the environmental information, detected by each single agent, updated among the swarm. Swarm Intelligence has been applied to the presented technique, through the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm (PSO), taking advantage of its features as a navigation system. The Graph Theory has been applied by exploiting Consensus and the application of the agreement protocol with the aim to maintain the units in a desired and controlled formation. This approach has been followed in order to conserve the power of PSO and to control part of its random behaviour with a distributed control algorithm like Consensus.
