Contribuição de Silvio Romero para o currículo da escola elementar no século XIX

Apresentamos uma análise da obra História do Brasil Ensinada pela Biografia de seus Heróis - Ensino Cívico - livro para as classes primárias, lançado em 1890 por Silvio Romero pela Livraria Editora Francisco Alves. A obra teve pelo menos nove edições (a oitava datada de 1908 e a nona de 1913), o que sugere algum sucesso num momento em que os livros de leitura e as cartilhas eram os únicos (ou os principais) livros a que os alunos da escola primária tinham acesso. Concebida para “substituir pela biografia a instrução cívica”, Historia do Brasil evidencia a convergência, no século XIX, da produção de saberes acerca da realidade nacional (particularmente no Instituto Histórico e Geográco Brasileiro e na Academia Brasileira de Letras) com a nacionalização os currículos.

Conflitos e conciliações: a relação da personagem Blanche DuBois, de Streetcar Named Desire, com a sociedade americana moderna

This paper presents a reflection on the relationship of the character Blanche DuBois, the protagonist of Tennessee Williams’s play A Streetcar Named Desire, with the society in which she is inserted. There is also a brief analysis of the construction of this character. To do this, the historical context of both the play and the author were studied, as well as his biography, which has great relevance in his work, and also a concise analysis of the elements presented in the literary work itself. In order to have an overview of Blanche, a few lines of this character were collected, as well as the lines of other characters that refer to her and some opposing viewpoints. The aim of this paper is to confront the character’s psychological and social conflicts, setting them in the context of modern American society

O mito nas Heróides de Ovídio: epístola I (De Penélope a Ulisses)

The objective of this work is to carry out a study about some aspects of the myth in the book Heroides, written by the Latin author Ovid (43 b.C. – 17/18 A.D.). To do so, this study will focus on the Letter I (“From Penelope to Ulysses”) approaching not only the stylistic issues of the elegiac genre, but also, studying them in connection with the epistolary subgenre. Machado de Assis, jornalista: o homem, o texto, o tempo.

This article analyses some of Machado de Assis’ newspaper chronicles written in 1878 for O Cruzeiro. We intend to show that behind their extremely free literary composition, those texts show the author’s deepest critical point of views.
