This work has as its theme the multiculturalism, cultural diversity and their reflections in school everyday, more specifically on the interactions between the various subjects and social groups that make up a school and the teacher as mediator of the relationship between these guys. The theme Multiculturalism refers in the first instance, to the theoretical movement beginning in the mid-20th century in the United States and that spreads in the Western world as a way of tackling the conflicts generated depending on the economic issues, policies, and, in particular, cultural-ethnic, in an attempt to combat discrimination and prejudice, given the difficulties of individuals and groups to welcome and socialize with the plurality and cultural differences (SILVA; BRANDIM, 2008).At the same time, multiculturalism refers to cultural studies, through the Centre for Contemporary cultural studies, founded by em1964 Hoggart, and connected to the English language Department of the University of Birmingham in England.In contemporary times, due to the phenomenon of globalization and public policy to challenge prejudice and discrimination the subjects and social groups, regardless of color, creed, ethnicity, sexual orientation and nationality, this theme has been recurring in order to recognize plural identities and ensure and directly affects the school as a place of cultural diversity and conflicts generated by the very diversity.The present work aims to analyze and understand how the issue of multiculturalism and cultural diversity in school films. Our study will be based theoretically in Cultural Studies authors and uses the qualitative approach, working with movie content analysis of school, seeking to seize on the same relations of coexistence, conflicts and the mediations of teachers

The progressive condylar resorption is a irreversible complication that can result in malocclusion and facial deformity that can happen especially in postoperative orthognathic surgery of mandibular advancement or combined surgery. Predominantly affect young women, bearers of malocclusions of skeletal class II and with incidence of temporomandibular disorders prior to surgical treatment. Its exact etiology and pathogenesis remain unclear. The purpose of this article is to make a literature review of the last 10 years on the progressive condylar resorption. For this, we used the Medline database for articles in the English language. Then, 13 articles were found, evaluated and compared on predisposing factors, etiology, diagnosis and clinical management.

Titanium dental implants have been common practice in the dental office, which can increases the number of allergic reactions to this material. Objectives: to alert dental surgeons and specialists of this possible phenomenon through a literature review. Material and methods: an electronic search at PubMed was performed with the keywords dental implants, titanium, and allergy from January 1990 to May 2013. Only articles published in the English language were included. Letters to editor were excluded. Results: from the 22 initially retrieved articles, only 7 were included, being 4 clinical case reports and 3 experimental studies. For clinical cases, the reactions included edema, erythema, exfoliative cheilitis, and eczema. Regarding experimental studies, skin rash and dermatitis were reported. A patch test was not used in two clinical reports. Only one study used histological analysis to attest the lack of allergic reactions. Conclusion: within the limits of the available literature, allergic reactions to titanium dental implants are extremely rare and seem to be related to the female gender. More controlled clinical studies are necessary to elucidate this question.

With the search for treatments faster and aesthetic improvement of materials and surgical techniques, immediate implants have become a clinical reality increasingly practiced. Thus, based on literature the specific purpose of this study was to address critically the concepts of immediate implants, discussing issues related to dental extraction, milling technique, care of the periodontal tissues support and protection, prosthetic replacement, benefits, indications and contraindications. To this end, from Pubmed electronic crawler Medline, 54 articles published between 1990 and 2009, over 4 items classics, all in English were selected. The Studies have shown success rates for this technique Conventional techniques like two-stage surgery, many different techniques and planning are present among these techniques, and implants more immediate subject to failures.

This study was designed to present and discuss some results produced by a research involving the use of English subtitles of some news videos from the webiste Reuters.com (http://www.reuters.com) with pedagogical reasons in a Brazilian context (Academic English for Journalism). We have developed the research during two semesters at UNESP (Universidade Estadual Paulista Jlio de Mesquita Filho). The professor in charge of the study has chosen the students of Journalism as the audience to whom the videos were presented. The assumptions of many theorists and experts in Audiovisual Translation were adopted as our Theoretical Sources. The first step of the study was the assessment of the syllabus of each course. This was very helpful as a guidance in order to choose the most relevant and interesting videos for students. After the evaluation of academic and professional interests, we chose some videos to insert appropriate subtitles, according to some strategies suggested by Panayota Georgakopoulou and Henrik Gottlieb. Finally we presented the videos during the English classes. At the first time, they were presented without subtitles just to notice the comprehension level of the students. After that, the videos were presented with English subtitles. As we first assumed, the students havent had the whole comprehension of specific details during the first presentation, they have just used their previous knowledge and the visual aids to help them in a superficial understanding of the news. As the subtitles appear, the process of communication was finally accomplished.

This work is a study which deals with political, electoral and party features from the Republic of Malta. An interest that motivated the study is to understand how works the consolidated two-party system in the country, the cleavages which foster that features and the Maltese media groups alignment process to those prevailing political parties. Our goal is to identify the main factors which creates and maintain those features of a two-party model in Malta, and how much it overlaps the political and electoral models applied in the country. The analysis is mostly literature, also backing up data about the nation, on elections and political parties which allow enough stability for analysis and enables us an approach about the actual facts. The survey data and literature available is mainly in English, by the lack of academic papers on Malta in Brazilian Portuguese. Therefore, this work contributes as a small panorama of the Maltese political reality, which can serve as a point of comparison and reflection on other countries' realities, with a sharp bipolar political trend, strong social entrenchment of political parties, and media groups aligned to those

OBJETIVO: Conduzir uma adaptao cultural cruzada do ndice Funcional de Espondilite Anquilosante de Bath (BASFI, Bath Ankylosing Spondylitis Functional Index) para o portugus do Brasil e avaliar suas propriedades de medio. MTODOS: O BASFI foi traduzido por quatro reumatologistas e trs professores de língua inglesa. O questionrio traduzido foi aplicado a pacientes com espondilite anquilosante por observadores treinados e autoaplicado em trs momentos, dias 1, 2 e 14. A validade foi estimada analisando-se a associao do BASFI e as medidas de capacidade funcional (rotao cervical, distncia intermaleolar, teste de Schober e distncia occipito-parede). A consistncia interna foi testada pelo coeficiente α de Cronbach, e a confiabilidade pelo teste-reteste (coeficiente de correlao intraclasse [CCI]). RESULTADOS: Foram includos 60 pacientes com espondilite anquilosante: 85% do gnero masculino, com idade mdia de 47 12 anos e durao mdia da doena de 20 11 anos. A confiabilidade intraobservador no teste-reteste (intervalo de duas semanas) revelou alto ICC (0,999; 95% IC: 0,997-0,999), alm de alta consistncia interna (coeficiente α de Cronbach: 0,86; 95% IC: 0,80-0,90). Considerando-se a validade, os ndices do BASFI foram correlacionados com a rotao cervical (0,53; P < 0,001) e a distncia intermaleolar (0,50; P < 0,001). CONCLUSO: A verso do BASFI para o portugus do Brasil confivel e vlida para avaliao de pacientes com espondilite anquilosante.

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo discutir sobre as trajetrias formativas e profissionais de professores de ingls do ensino superior, aprofundando as reflexes acerca das dificuldades ou facilidades entre a formao e o incio da prtica docente. Alm da realizao da anlise de contedo dos dados das entrevistas, a pesquisa terica tambm se fez importante no intuito de buscar um pouco da histria do ensino da língua inglesa no Brasil, bem como um estudo sobre os mtodos e abordagens do ensino de ingls, a fim de que se pudesse analisar se a formao desses profissionais incluiu ou no o conhecimento dos mesmos e at que ponto foi ou no importante no s para sua formao como tambm para sua atuao em sala de aula. A partir de minha prpria experincia co mo professora particular de ingls, com dificuldades de atuao, principalmente devido a uma m formao, busquei algumas respostas com estes docentes mais experientes que pudessem contribuir de algum modo para que os futuros professores de ingls sejam mais bem formados e preparados para superarem as dificuldades inicias da carreira bem como para que consigam reduzi-las, podendo assim exercer sua profisso com mais segurana e competncia, j que tambm vo formar e preparar outros professores.(AU)

A pesquisa considera a difuso de celulares e smartphones e as consequncias deste fato em possibilidades para o ensino-aprendizagem. Aparatos de comunicao sempre estiveram ligados ao processo de ensino-aprendizagem. Entretanto, com o desenvolvimento mais intenso, nas ltimas dcadas, das Tecnologias de Informao e Comunicao (TIC), essa relao vem ganhando novos contornos. Surge a Internet, a evoluo das mquinas computacionais e, recentemente, a exploso dos dispositivos mveis, fornecendo novos produtos e servios convergentes. Nesse contexto, celulares e smartphones tem sido utilizados e recomendados para apoio e complemento do processo de ensino-aprendizagem: a chamada Aprendizagem Mvel. Esse ramo cresce devido rpida expanso e barateamento dessas tecnologias na sociedade. Para verificar cientificamente essa relao foi realizada uma pesquisa de natureza qualitativa, do tipo exploratria, com dois projetos de Aprendizagem Mvel em andamento no Brasil, o Palma Programa de Alfabetizao na Língua Materna e o Escola Com Celular ECC. Assim, a partir dos dados provenientes da pesquisa, identificamos alguns aspectos relacionados ao uso de celulares e smartphones para o processo de ensino-aprendizagem que contribuem na compreenso desse campo ainda em construo no Brasil. O uso desses dispositivos como suporte para processos de ensino-aprendizagem nos projetos estudados delineado pelos aspectos tecnologia, dispositivo, pblico e contexto e novas tecnologias e Aprendizagem Mvel. O aspecto dispositivo desdobra-se em dimenses como disseminao, multifuncionalidade e acessibilidade que embasam os projetos, ainda favorece caractersticas apontadas como importantes para o processo de ensino-aprendizagem na atualidade, como mobilidade e portabilidade. Os projetos pesquisados demonstram potencial e metodologia adequada aos contextos para os quais foram criados e aplicados. Entretanto, a pesquisa indicou que ao mesmo tempo em que celulares e smartphones representam o pice da convergncia tecnolgica e so considerados extremamente populares e acessveis na sociedade contempornea, com possibilidades concretas como nos projetos estudados, no conseguiram conquistar uma posio slida como suporte para o ensino-aprendizagem. Tal indicao se deve, de acordo com o corpus, carncia de alguns fatores, como: fomento, as prticas se mostram extremamente dependentes da iniciativa pblica ou privada para sua extenso e continuidade; sensibilizao para o uso de tecnologias disponveis, no consideram o aparelho dos prprios alunos e um planejamento que inclua, capacite e incentive o uso desses dispositivos. Alm disso, a pesquisa tambm destaca a necessidade de uma viso crtica do uso e papel da tecnologia nesses processos.
