The plane wave electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding properties of DC sputtered Ni79Fe16Mo5 and copper layers were studied according to ASTM D 4935-89 on frequency range of 50 MHz – 2.5 GHz and RF magnetic shielding effectiveness by shielded magnetic loop probes. Results show that Ni79Fe16Mo5 provides better RF magnetic shielding above the layer thickness of approximately 120 nm. Copper provides better plane wave shielding effectiveness. The effect of shield internal interfaces was studied by depositing thin multilayer structures with and without a dielectric spacer layer.

X-This work shows an alternative method to copper determination by X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF). Since copper concentration in natural waters is not enough to reach XRF detection limit, a liquid-solid preconcentration procedure was proposed. Glycerin was used to complex the metal increasing its adsorption on activated charcoal. The solid phase was used to XRF determination. Several parameters were evaluated, such as, the complexation pH, the charcoal adsorption limit and the glycerin concentration. The interferences are lead and bismuth and the sensitivities decreased in the order Cu2+, Bi3+ and Pb2+. The advantages of the method are its simplicity, low cost and low spectral interference.

When the compounds are heated in an inert atmosphere it can be verified the consecutive partial sublimation, fusion, partial volatilization and partial thermal decomposition of the anhydrous complexes. When in an oxidating atmosphere the above process is only verified to Cu(II) chelates. Anhydrous copper(II) complexes present a monoclinic structure in the b form and the volatilized compound in a a form. Zinc(II) and cadmium(II) hydrated complexes are isomorphous and they present different cell dimensions from those reported previously.

The reactions of four new unsymmetrical N,O-donor ligands, {H2BBPETEN= [N-(2-hydroxybenzyl) - N,N' - bis(2 methylpyridyl) -N'-(hydroxyethyl) ethylenodiamine], H3BPETEN=[N,N'- bis(2-hydroxybenzyl) -N- (2-methylpyridyl) -N'- (hydroxyethyl) ethylenodiamine], HTPETEN=[N,N,N'- tris(2-methylpyridyl) -N'- (hydroxyethyl) ethylenodiamine] and H3BIMETEN=[N,N'-(2-hydroxybenzyl)-N-(1-methylimidazol-2-il-methyl)-N'- (hydroxyethyl)ethylenodiamine]}, with Cu(II) salts afforded the following mononuclear compounds: [CuII(HBBPETEN)]ClO4, [CuII(H2BPETEN)]ClO4 , [CuII(HTPETEN)](PF6)2 and [CuII(H2BIMETEN)]ClO4 . All were characterized by EPR, electronic spectroscopy and electrochemistry. The four copper (II) compounds showed interesting electrochemistry properties. All presented an anodic wave that can be attributed to the Cu (I) oxide formation at the electrode surface, or to a Cu0 sediment at the same surface or yet, to Cu(I) -> Cu(II) oxidation process with coupled chemistry reaction, due to their irreversibility. Two of the complexes are described as interesting synthetic models for the active site of the metalloenzyme galactose oxidase.

Tetrahydroborate complexes of copper (I) with bidentate phosphines, [Cu(eta²-BH4)(dppm)] (1), [Cu(eta²-BH4)(dppe)] (2), [Cu(eta²-BH4)(cis-dppet)] (3) and [Cu(eta²-BH4)(dppb)] (4) (dppm = bis(diphenylphosphino)methane; dppe = 1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino) ethane; cis-dppet = 1,2-cis(diphenylphosphino)ethene; dppb = 1,4-bis(diphenylphosphino)butane) were prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, NMR and thermogravimetric analysis. The IR data for 1-4 showed bands typical of a bidentate coordination of BH4 group to the copper atom and the 31P{¹H} NMR spectra indicated that the phosphorous atoms are chelating the metal centre. The thermal behavior of the compounds was investigated and suggested that their thermal stability is influenced by the phosphines. Their thermal stability decreased as follows: [Cu(eta²-BH4)(dppe)] (2) > [Cu(eta²-BH4)(dppm)] (1) > [Cu(eta²-BH4)(dppb)] (4) > [Cu(eta²-BH4)(cis-dppet)] (3). According to thermal analysis and X-ray diffraction patterns all compounds decomposed giving Cu(BO2)2, CuO, CuO2 and Cu as final products.

This work reports the synthesis and characterization of adducts of general formula MCl2.ngly, where M= Mn and Cu; n= 2 and 4, and gly= glycine. The manganese adducts were synthesized by dissolution of both, manganese chloride and glycine in water, whereas the copper adducts were obtained by using an alternative solid state synthesis approach. For all adducts, the obtained infrared data shows that the coordination involves the amine nitrogen atom, as well as an oxygen atom of the COO- group. The TG curves for the synthesized adducts exhibit only one mass loss step associated with the release of glycine molecules.

The present paper deals with the bis-insertion reactions of 1,2-diphenylacetylene into Pd-C bond of the cyclopalladated complexes [Pd(dmba)(µ-NCO)]2 (1) and [Pd(dmba)(MeCN)2](NO3) (2) (dmba = N,N-dimethylbenzylamine, MeCN = acetonitrile). Two new complexes [Pd{PhC=CPh-CPh=CPhC6H4CH2N(CH 3)2}(NCO)] (3) and [Pd{PhC=CPh-CPh=CPhC6H4CH2N(CH 3)2}(NO3 )] (4) were obtained and characterized by IR and NMR spectroscopy and elemental analysis.
