This layer is a georeferenced raster image of the historic paper map entitled: Map of Rockingham Co., New Hampshire, by actual surveys by J. Chace, Junr. It was published by Smith and Coffin in 1857. Scale [ca 1:15,840]. This layer is image 3 of 4 total images, representing the southwest portion of the four sheet source map. The image inside the map neatline is georeferenced to the surface of the earth and fit to the New Hampshire State Plane coordinate system (NAD 1983 in Feet) (Fipszone 2800). All map collar and inset information is also available as part of the raster image, including any inset maps, profiles, statistical tables, directories, text, illustrations, index maps, legends, or other information associated with the principal map. This map shows features such as roads, railroads, drainage, public buildings, schools, churches, cemeteries, industry locations (e.g. mills, factories, mines, etc.), private buildings with names of property owners, town boundaries, and more. It includes many cadastral insets of individual county towns and villages. It also includes illustrations, business directories, and tables of statistics and distances. This layer is part of a selection of digitally scanned and georeferenced historic maps of New England from the Harvard Map Collection. These maps typically portray both natural and manmade features. The selection represents a range of regions, originators, ground condition dates, scales, and map purposes.

Anhydrite occurs in veins in hydrothermally altered basalts recovered from Hole 504B during Leg 83 of the Deep Sea Drilling Project. Sulfur isotopic data indicate that the anhydrites formed from fluids with sulfur isotopic compositions similar to seawater sulfate. Anhydrite probably formed as a pulse of relatively unreacted seawater was heated when it entered a relatively hot hydrothermal system containing evolved fluids. Reheating and continued evolution of the system followed anhydrite deposition. Preservation of anhydrite in Hole 504B was probably favored by the high temperatures and by the low permeability that resulted from the sealing of cracks with secondary minerals. Evidence also indicates that anhydrite was partly replaced by laumontite and prehnite at relatively high temperatures, and possibly by calcite at lower temperatures.

A large deposit of ferromanganese oxide concretions has been found in the northern portion of Lake Ontario. The concretions occur mainly in the form of coatings on sand grains but manganese nodules are present at several localities. Mineralogically, the ferromanganese oxide phases are amorphous, and their Fe and Mn contents are similar to those in concretions from other environments. However, their Ni, Co, and Cu contents are significantly higher than those reported in previously described North American lacustrine ferromanganese concretions, and this may, in part, be a reflection of their probable low rates of accumulation.
